🎁 - How do they feel about their birthday/birthdays in general? for Omakuba

I swear I answered this on Omakuba but I just looked and I never did so now I have to hecking make up an answer this is so unfair

Saguru likes his birthday well enough- it's not super special to him since he doesn't even remember the parents who gave it to him (reminder that omake is adopted- I had to go through my old hecking blog to find his birth surname, do you know how long ago that was? BTW it's Mawatari). He doesn't particularly celebrate his adoption day either, but it's acknowledged with at least a little more fervor.

As far as other people's birthdays go......he's always down to celebrate somebody else. He's not one to throw a surprise party for someone else, but he always has a present for them at the very least, and is more than happy to shower them with affection.

“oi, miku!” tsukasa exclaims the second those blue pigtails enter his line of vision. “happy miku day to you, miku. accept my token of gratitude for your existence!” he hands her a cupcake with various star decorations plastered on the frosting. “it is just for you! it was quite the struggle to make, so i hope you enjoy it!”

"Awww, you shouldn't have!" Despite her words, her actions speak otherwise as she gratefully accepts the cupcake. It's cute, starry, and absolutely Tsukasa. "Your hard work really paid off, you know! It looks great! And happy me-ku day to you too! How about we celebrate together by putting on a huuuuuge show?"

uuuuhhhhh this feels like a loaded question and it's too early o' clock for me to be fuddling through existential character arcs but I feel like I need to answer this properly so I'll give it my best try; under the cut and mild spoilers for Legends Arceus as well as Persona 4 (vanilla and maaaaaybe golden? I don’t remember) and Persona 5 (vanilla).

I should clarify that I......enjoy Adachi. I don't necessarily like him as a character because I think his main-game persona's a little too annoying, but I do like his deeper motives and appreciate that he's absolutely unhinged for a stupid ass reason (if any reason at all). It's refreshing in a medium that gets sympathetic villains all the time, even if I do prefer sympathetic - or at least understandable - villains.

What I don't like is that every time another JRPG pulls off a good twist villain (or just a twist villain in general), they get compared to Adachi, regardless of how different their character arcs are. And it's not just Adachi vs Volo, it's really the fact that a lot of people boil down evil/villainous characters to their surface-level characterization. You see the same thing with Adachi vs Akechi- or rather saw, when Akechi came out, basically boiling him down to "oh he's a softboi who's secretly evil and wants to kill your team, he must be an Adachi clone" which! Totally! Undermines! His whole character arc which is about being a victim and perpetrator at the same time!!! And you see it here too, undermining Volo's entire obsession with mythology and his self-absorbed birthright as the last follower of Arceus/true Sinnohite!! And it's even weirder in this context too, since at least Adachi and Akechi were from the same franchise, where the heck y'all bringing a Pokemon character into this dumb circlejerk??

TL;DR it's not that I don't like Adachi, it's that I don't like him as a figurehead of the "secret villain" trope that everyone gets compared to.
