Brightly coloured process painting made up of 1cm squares of oil paint applied adjacent to each other in a strict grid pattern. This painting explores the tension between the handmade, the manufactured, idea and realisation in art. Duchampian practice removes the necessity for the artist to participate physically in art production, the idea is paramount. Value through rarity has traditionally been a function of the artisanal method of production of cultural artefacts, the hand of the artist being limited to the production of only so many works. The use of factory production methods produces the phenomena of the alienated artist in the production of fine art. Here I alienate myself from control over the production process by following a strictly controlled specification which is repetitive. Since production has not been outsourced though the works remain limited in number and unique. #art #abstract art #oil painting #conceptual art #modern art #process painting #colorful painting #multicolored

Volcano Glade, Christian Dodd, 2017
Factory painting of a mountain, trees and a stream with a small waterfall using the wet on wet technique popularised by Bob Ross. I have amended this painting to convert the mountain into an erupting volcano and the stream into a lava flow.

Canvey Summer Isle, Christian Dodd, 2017
Factory painted bucolic landscape painted using the wet on wet technique popularised by Bob Ross with some additions. This idyllic scene is now set against the industrial backdrop of Canvey Island's skyline, a seaplane (used by Edward Woodward in the Wicker Man) is moored in the creek and a fire is burning in the woodland. Perhaps in preparation for some pagan ritual? All of this is now secured behind a barbed wire fence.
