[...] Nancy has also been seen as the Duffer Brothers' commentary onĀ final girlsĀ in horror franchises from the 1980s. In particular, Nancy has been compared mostly toĀ Nancy ThompsonĀ fromĀ A Nightmare on Elm Street, the namesake for the character.
honestly i have such controversial stranger things opinions (theyre not even controversial honestly, this fandom is just a disaster) that i await the day that someone starts vaguing about me š§āāļø
what i like about the ballad of songbirds and snakes is the way that snow isnāt some kind of psychopathic sadist with a natural penchant for evil or anything. heās a symptom of a system and is so unremarkably human. coriolanus snow is a prissy broke old money little shit whose sole driving force is being the best debate kid, not a fascist oppressor. and when it comes down to it, he chooses the option that will allow him to be as cushy and safe as possible. he doesnāt originally want a power high, he just wants to stop being insecure. and his complacency is what ultimately breeds his corruption.
reading max's first impressions of nancy and TRULY we do NOT capitalize on THAT dynamic enough!!!! it is SO clear that max thinks nancy is the coolest girl alive. like, the way she sees nancy standing there with her gun and a fierce expression on her face, and yet is STILL scared? the way that would be a COMFORT to max!!! to know that you CAN be both ā you CAN be brave and terrified at the same time.
i really love this look that we get from finnick during this scene because i think it sums up everything he says about katniss loving peeta in mockingjay.
āitās just that i didnāt understand when i met you. after your first games, i thought the whole romance was an act on your part. we all expected youād continue that strategy. but it wasnāt until peeta hit the force field and nearly died that iāā finnick hesitates.
i think back to the arena. how i sobbed when finnick revived peeta. the quizzical look on finnickās face. the way he excused my behavior, blaming it on my pretend pregnancy. āthat you what?ā
āthat i knew iād misjudged you. that you do love him. iām not saying in what way. maybe you donāt know yourself. but anyone paying attention could see how much you care about him,ā he says gently.
chapter 11, mockingjay
the realization upon seeing katniss become hysterical and truly horrified that she might lose peeta, kissing peeta the second he could breathe again, clinging onto him the second he could stand again, holding him so tight against her trembling body as if afraid that some other force field might throw peeta off her arms again.
and then THIS. finnick looking away as soon as he realizes that oh, it's real. it looks as if he is worried that he just witnessed something intimate and genuine that is not meant for his eyesāor anybody'sābecause it's extremely private. because it's a moment for katniss and peeta only, completely unguarded and without a trace of false act because it was a moment of fear. fear that you just lost someone whose life you value more than your own, someone you are ready to die for, someone you choose over everything and everyone else. and that someone being just GONE. it was fear. and just a little above it, surfaces love. the kind that is selfless, soft and fierce at the same time. and finnick sees all that and knows that it is secluded, and so he allows them to keep that secret. he looks away and thinks, oh, it is real.
