Maybe it's time to build something for myself. Something like this old school dragbike.

2023 season is about to start and with it a new ruleset for my class (SCCA CAM C) which relaxed some restrictions such as wings and street legal status. At first reading I was dumbfounded and panicked thinking "what the hell and I gonna do". Now, after a bit of time to dwell on it I've come to the conclusion, NOTHING. Locally, I've been competitive with a underprepped car so nothing is really going to change for me. I'll just be more underprepped.
You see, this is my daily driver. I've promised myself that as I make changes none would make the car miserable as a daily. I also promised I wouldn't make any change without testing to see how the change effects the car. This means changing multiple items all together is a major no no. This is why I am underprepped after 2 years, as testing and experimenting takes time.
I do have my wish list and I will get to them all. And while after reading the new rules my first thought was just to throw money at the car and do a major update. But, been there and done that and it is not the smartest way for my end game. Too much "what did I do" and "why is it doing this" to sort out.
So I will go into the new year with some minor changes to see how the car likes it and slowly make more changes.

Help on new tires.. My #bridgestone #re71r have served me well but it's time to start looking at new tires. I've always been of the bigger is better mindset. Now it's popular to match or slightly stretch tires relative to wheel width vs tread width. Staying with my 19x9 wheels I can pinch a set of 275's (losing~.2 inch width based on tire racks data) or use an ideal 255. Depending on which tire manufacturer I use I would be giving up about 1/2" width in contact patch but gaining a tiny bit back with tire height. Opinions: 1) bigger is better? Less responsive, heavier, shorter, better ultimate grip 2) match tire to wheel? More responsive, lighter, taller, less ultimate grip Last year I had 265/35r19 and with success. I do like a more responsive feeling. I've always ran higher pressures than normal due to this. I'm thinking I may like to try the 255 for shits and giggles but don't really want to throw a season away on the wrong tires. #bridgestonetires #becauseracecar #racecarproblems https://www.instagram.com/p/CoHfM1TurXE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Last #autocross of the year was packed. Trying to move up the ranks I made some changes to the suspension & messed up. 3 DNFs & an undrivable car at the limit #autox #mustang #Ford #Ecoboost #scca #becauseracecar #hotrod #streetmachine #ponycar #musclecar

I've always hated the wheels on my Ecoboost Mustang. The stock Performance Package in satin black just looked...dirty. Try as I might I could never get them to look good. So I started wheel hunting but for what? Chrome, bronze, gunmetal or maybe a different style in black? So off to a car show I go and for a second opinion my wife comes with.
We look and look. What color and style for a silver Mustang. Bronze? nope, Chrome? Too much silver, gunmetal? Maybe. Then it happens. She tells me she likes the wheels themselves. "The style is great but why do they look dirty and shiny like these?" Then it hits me. It's the satin finish. A gloss, wet look black wheel is what I should try. So as an experiment we grabbed some gloss clear coat rattle cans and pulled the wheels off and glossed them up.
Not a major change it is very subtle. So much so that in the picture it's hard to see, but in person it is noticeable enough that I have been asked if I got new wheels.
Life lesson. Sometimes it is just a little change that is needed.

Play day. Minor suspension adjustments before the next autocross. Front end was too tight causing a push. Loosened things up a bit for better turn in.

My last run I did the pin cone perfectly but then carried too much speed into the next elements and lost the back end. The left was when I concentrated on technique instead of overall speed. The right was my best time. What a shame, I threw away what should have been my best run. #autocross #autocross #mustang #ecoboost #ecoboostmustang #becauseracecar #becausedailydriver
