The way you change your immediate reactions to things is that you catch yourself having an uncharitable/bigoted/overly judgmental thought and you catch it and replace it and then you do that a hundred times a day for your whole life and eventually one day like five years later you realize that you think differently now and youâll always be working on something but thatâs how life goes and thatâs fine.

you finally confess your attraction to the hot priest and he's like "oh darling, I thought you'd never ask" and proceeds to bite your neck and turn you into another catholic priest

i think the worst thing about the whole âanti-wokeâ culture is how itâs not only dumbing down people (folks are literally forgetting pronouns are an actual word class, an inseperable part of grammar and everyday speech) but also praising meanness and insensibility above all. it has managed to make malice and unkindness synonymous with factfulness and reason as if intelligence didnât stem from emotions. as if feelings werenât the very core of human beings. as if knowledge wasnât achieved through passion, sympathy, and open-mindedness. as if the whole crux of this entire anti-wokeness movement wasnât rooted in pure unadulterated emotion of hatred and hostility.

At some point in your life, you were taught that being slightly annoying is an unforgivable sin. Maybe it was by your parents or a teacher or a friend or a bully or an older sibling. But someone taught you that being slightly annoying is a crime punishable by death.
You must unlearn this.
You must accept that all people will be annoying at some point or another in their lives, maybe all of their lives, and that this is okay. It is okay for strangers on the bus, it is okay for children in the grocery store, it is okay for people on social media, and it is okay for you.
If you ever want to truly love your fellow humans, if you ever want to truly love yourself, you must have forgiveness for being annoying.

when I see something dated 2019 I think âoh thatâs not too long agoâ and then I remember that 2019 was not only five years ago but those five years have somehow contained several lifetimes
