Children to design new national park in Minecraft
Adelaide schoolchildren were asked to design the design of a Minecraft national park that could be constructed in real life.
Students aged between nine and 12 are being challenged to design their own designs in the 3D blocky world.
The results could then be used in improvements to existing national parks around Adelaide.
The government has set aside $10.4m Australian dollars (PS5.4m) to fund the revamps.
It was keen to find a fresh way to engage young people in its activities.
"This competition is part an engagement project with the community that asks everyone of all ages to suggest facilities that could encourage them to spend more time in the national park," reads the Natural Resources, Adelaide website which announced the prize.
"The State government has given $10.4m for parks projects. This means that some of the ideas that your class comes up with could be used."
The only rule is that "whatever you create must be able to be created in the real world", it added. just another wordpress site
"The park features need to be in harmony with the natural surroundings and take into account the species of animals and plants that reside there."
It suggested that ideas could include trails for bushwalking or mountain biking, barbecues, horse riding, picnic areas or something completely unique."
Redesigning the slums
There is a trend of creating ever more elaborate designs in Minecraft.
As part of an educational program, the Danish government has been mapping the entire country.
Mojang, the creators and developers of Minecraft joined forces with the UN in 2012 to assist create cities for developing countries.
They designed public spaces and shared them with community groups. They could then design them by the participants. the spaces.
The project has led to new ideas for green space in Kiberia the largest slum in Nairobi and the tool was also used to design a new waterfront in Les Cayes, Haiti's third largest city.
The Adelaide competition ends on 12 June and the winner will be announced a month later.
Winners will get an opportunity to go on a trip funded by the government to the Belair National Park.
