Yeah, so have you ever thought about writing out that hypothetical encounter of time traveling!Harry & young!Snape? Because at least one person (me) would be very very interested in reading that.

On my first read of Pacify, I automatically and without conscious thought, pictured Taz's confetti fire as rainbow. On my fourth read now, and it occurred to me that it could be plain parchment colored. Or even red/orange/yellow.

So what's the truth?

Just regular parchment lol. But the narrative belongs to the readers! If you want it to be rainbow, it's rainbow when you read it.

I finally finished my Binderary project, which was to bind two sets of the 7-volume series Pacify by @chickenpets. I finished last Friday, and mailed one of the two sets off to the author this week!

The whole project took me six weeks from printing to a completed set.

The spine and fore-edge of the book are bound with Duo book cloth. Duo went out of production last year and is increasingly difficult to find, but I've been buying up as many colors as I can afford and get my hands on. What makes it “duo” is that if you hold it just right, the color will shift: start with the book up in front of you so it is parallel to your face, and then rotate it so the face or back is perpendicular to you, and the color will change. Most of the color shifts are pretty subtle. I didn't do purple for the last book because I'm crossing my fingers that Chickenpets will write one more part--but the series is fantastic even if she doesn't. I will save purple for that potential 8th book.

Between the bits of Duo are specialty latex papers from Neenah Papers with the titles. I printed these with my laser printer, which was a bit wild because the textures—especially on Steady—meant the toner didn’t want to adhere properly at first, but I eventually solved that problem with a nice hot iron applied immediately after printing. Some of these papers (like the one for Sanctum) have their own color shift--it's a dark gold in the picture above, but a dark reddish brown below.

The end papers are all marbled Jute from De Milo Design Studio (called Sustain & Heal on Etsy).

The spine text was done with Heat Transfer Vinyl of different colors, cut using either a Silhouette Cameo 3 or 4.

And the textblocks were trimmed, rounded, speckled with acrylic paint, and given two-color bead-in-front endbands using cotton thread over leather cores.

And I just want to thank a few people--you know who you are--for very generously contributing to help me replace my printer when my last one decided it would not print two sided unless I printed only one page at a time, manually turning it from one side to the other. The first two books were printed that way, but I'd probably still just be working on printing the other books right now without the new printer. All in all, this was an INTENSE project. Doing 14 books that fast and with the quality I wanted meant that I didn't do much that wasn't my paid job or these books. But I think it was worth it, and I definitely learned a lot from the process.

Pacify Part 1: Shatter

My big Binderary project is getting started on binding two sets of Pacify, the giant, sprawling Snarry fic by the lovely @chickenpets! I finished the first copy of the first volume today.

This is bound in Graphite Duo and a Metallic Skivertex from Neenah Papers. There is HTV on the duo spine and the cover is just a print because I don’t trust my Silhouette to do the tiny details I wanted.

The endpapers are marbled jute, the interior is 20lb Hammermill Cream paper (cut short grain). You can’t see it, but it’s sewn French link with linen thread. The edges are trimmed and speckled with black acrylic paint, and the endbands are black and cream cotton thread.
