30 Music Industry Organizations Urge Ticketing Reform to Replace the Nightmare Fans and Artists Currently Navigate
30+ Music Industry Organizations Urge Ticketing Reform to Replace the ‘Nightmare Fans and Artists Currently Navigate’ https://ift.tt/0gaJEUn Photo Credit: Fix the Tix Coalition 30+ Music industry organizations urge ticketing reform to replace ‘nightmare fans and artists currently navigate’ with the Fix the Tix plan. Fix the Tix, a coalition of more than 30 national organizations representing the live entertainment, music, and performing arts industries, has released a plan outlining a roadmap for comprehensive ticketing reform. This pro-artist and pro-consumer plan provides a clear path for Congress to address urgent issues and restore trust in the ticketing experience for fans and artists alike. The current ticketing market exposes fans and artists to predatory resellers, fraudulent practices, and exorbitant prices. To combat these challenges, Fix the Tix calls on Congress to enact federal legislation that safeguards consumers from fake and speculative tickets, price gouging, and deceptive practices while ensuring transparency and integrity in the ticketing marketplace. The Fix the Tix plan includes provisions to protect consumers from price gouging, ban speculative and fake tickets, end fraudulent resale practices, ensure transparent ticket pricing, prioritize fan safety, guarantee fans the opportunity to resell their tickets to recoup their costs, provide certainty in ticket-buying across the country, further ban ticket-buying bots, and protect consumers from consolidation. The plan is backed by a coalition of groups representing artists, actors, live entertainment workers, venues, festivals, performing arts, record labels, promoters, agents, managers, songwriters, consumers, and unions. Supporters include The Recording Academy, Universal Music Group, National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), EventBrite, RIAA, Artists Rights Alliance, and many more. “This coalition represents stakeholders who take on all the risk to create once-in-a-lifetime experiences and bring joy, employment, and economic impact to communities across America,” announces the collective. “We are coming together to protect fans from price gouging and deceptive and predatory ticketing practices. There will be more to come from our coalition soon.” This comprehensive plan reflects the Fix the Tix coalition’s commitment to equitable and accessible ticketing experiences for all consumers. Fix the Tix pledges to “mobilize the industry, artists, consumers, and communities nationwide, working on a bipartisan basis, to advocate for the passage of this crucial legislation by the end of this Congress.” The coalition was formed following public legal scrutiny the ticketing agency and Ticketmaster have faced for its practices. The Senate Judiciary Committee calls Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation a “monolith in live entertainment that needs to be restructured.” Last year, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. of New Jersey launched an investigation into Live Nation/Ticketmaster’s dynamic “supply and demand” pricing strategy and junk fees. In September, Pascrell sent a letter to Live Nation President and CEO Michael Rapino, demanding the company be “more transparent and fair with its pricing strategies after Ticketmaster confirmed their dynamic pricing is based on supply and demand.” Read More The post 30+ Music Industry Organizations Urge Ticketing Reform to Replace the ‘Nightmare Fans and Artists Currently Navigate’ appeared first on CHICAGO DAILY CHRONICLE. via CHICAGO DAILY CHRONICLE https://ift.tt/q4lZnO8 June 08, 2023 at 01:27AM

Talent Agency YMU Hits Financial Turbulence with Nearly $90M in Debt Report
Talent Agency YMU Hits Financial Turbulence with Nearly $90M in Debt — Report https://ift.tt/F2EJ5cB Photo Credit: YMU Group Talent agency YMU hits financial turbulence with lending debts nearing $90 million. U.K.-based Talent management agency YMU Group (You, Me & Us), which features a transatlantic music division, is exploring options for financial restructuring, according to Sky News. Reports indicate that the company has been involved in talks over its finances following a “slump in profits exacerbated by the pandemic.” Sky reports that via sources in London’s financial district, YMU lenders Permira Credit and Lloyds Banking Group “hired AlixPartners several weeks ago to undertake an independent business review of the agency.” YMU reportedly owes Permira Credit and Lloyds Banking Group approximately $87 million (£70 million). While a source cited as close to YMU suggested that there were no grounds for concern about the company’s future, Sky’s reporting indicates that a new Chief Restructuring Officer may head up a restructuring process at YMU and was “likely to draw takeover interest from industry rivals.” According to YMU’s latest available accounts filed at UK Companies House, the company held net liabilities of £74.7 million “largely as a result of the Group’s long-term borrowings, which are not repayable until 2025 and beyond.” “As part of the loan facilities with Permira Credit Solutions (…) and Lloyds Bank, the company has issued a cross guarantee secured on the assets held by the company and certain other companies within the group,” YMU wrote in its 2021 annual report. “The cross guarantee relates to borrowings of YM&U Group Services Limited, comprising a loan facility of (GBP) £38,443,000 and a drawn acquisition facility of £15,242,000 with Permira, and with Lloyds Bank a loan facility of £5,888,000 and (USD) $12,000,000, and a revolving credit facility of £4,000,000.” The Permira loan facilities are repayable on September 28, 2025, while the revolving credit facility and the Lloyds Bank facility are repayable on March 28, 2025. YMU works with talent across music, sports, arts, and entertainment, majority-owned by private equity firm Trilantic. The company started in 2018 after U.K.-based James Grant Group, then part-owned by Metric Capital, sold a majority stake in its business to Trilantic, rebranding it as YMU. A Son Grew Out His Hair to Make a Wig for His Mom Whos Suffered From Brain Tumor for 20 Years: Heres Their Story
A Son Grew Out His Hair to Make a Wig for His Mom Who’s Suffered From Brain Tumor for 20 Years: Here’s Their Story https://ift.tt/A2tn4f1 Matt Shaha, 28, went above and beyond to help his mother, Melanie, regain her sense of self. When Melanie lost her hair due to a benign brain tumor, Matt grew out his own hair for 2 years and made a wig for her. Inspired by their strong mother-son bond, we are eager to share their story with our beloved readers. Shaha’s mom lost her hair due to a brain tumor. An Arizona mom named Melanie Shaha faced the heartbreaking reality of permanently losing her hair due to radiation treatment for a recurring benign brain tumor. Her son, Matt Shaha, known for his striking strawberry blonde hair, embarked on an extraordinary 2-year journey to give her a precious gift: a brand-new head of hair. In early 2020, at 27, Matt began growing his hair with this specific purpose in mind. With determination, he patiently nurtured his hair, allowing it to reach an impressive length of 12 inches. When the time was right, he bravely decided to part with his cherished mane, but not without a beautiful plan in place. “I had surgery to remove the tumor, and I had a really great outcome,” the mother of 6 said. Melanie Shaha recounted her experience, saying that she had asked her doctor about any potential hair loss. The doctor had assured her that she wouldn’t lose her hair. However, 3 months later, she experienced significant shedding and started losing her hair, which obviously came as a surprise. Melanie Shaha shared her experience, noting that not having hair made her stand out and caused well-meaning individuals to say things that deeply affected her. She shared that while she didn’t mind being sick, she disliked looking sick and preferred blending in rather than attracting attention while out shopping. Matt came up with the idea of giving his mom a wig. In 2018, during a family lunch, Melanie’s 28-year-old son, Matt, playfully suggested the idea of growing out his hair to create a wig for her. At the time, Matt had recently graduated from college, where there were hair length restrictions. However, he had been relishing the newfound freedom of growing his hair out, and at that moment, he had a realization that inspired him. Despite her desire to regain her sense of self, Melanie didn’t want to burden her son. “I would tell him, ’I love your hair,’ and he’d say, ’Coming soon to a head near you!’” she said. Once his hair had reached the sufficient length of 12 inches, Matt, accompanied by a few of his coworkers, went to his mother’s home. There, they courageously chopped off all of Matt’s hair. Following this heartfelt act, Matt’s cut hair was sent to Compassionate Creations, a Newport Beach, California company. The company diligently crafted a hand-tied wig using Matt’s hair, which was then delivered to Melanie. Happiness was found again. Melanie emphasized the rarity of finding a company that accepts donated hair and transforms it into a customized wig. She remarked, “There are lots of places that you can cut your hair and donate it, but there are very few companies that will take your donated hair and make a wig for you.” As she adorned her head with her son’s long, strawberry-blonde locks, Melanie experienced a renewed sense of familiarity. She saw her reflection for the first time in 4 years and felt like herself again. The story of Matt and Melanie Shaha exemplifies the powerful and unbreakable bond between children and their mothers. It serves as a beautiful reminder of the love, sacrifice, and support that exist within this unique relationship. Immigrant who died at Woodlawn shelter identified: He was a very good person
Immigrant who died at Woodlawn shelter identified: ‘He was a very good person’ https://ift.tt/lRKVAXd Authorities have identified an immigrant who was found dead last week at a shuttered elementary school in Woodlawn on the South Side that’s being used as a temporary shelter. The man was identified as 26-year-old Luis Alberto Aguilar Peres, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Autopsy results were pending. This was the first publicly known death at a city-owned facility since large numbers of immigrants began arriving in Chicago last year. Since August, the city has taken in nearly 10,000 migrants. About 6:15 a.m. June 2, officers responded to a call of a man who was “foaming at the mouth and unresponsive” at the former Wadsworth Elementary School building, 6420 S. University Ave., according to an alert from the Chicago Police Department obtained by the Sun-Times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A flyer for a memorial service for Luis Alberto Aguilar Peres, who died at a temporary shelter for migrants in Woodlawn. Emmanuel Camarillo/Sun-Times Detectives were conducting a death investigation, indicating that they believe his death was not the result of a crime. Angel Pacheco, who got to know Peres when the two arrived at the temporary shelter, said he wasn’t sure what caused his friend’s death, but added that Peres talked about having heart issues. “He was a very good person,” said Pacheco, 35. Peres was a father and husband who made the long journey from Venezuela to the United States for a better life, Pacheco said. He has a sister in New York whom he wanted to visit. “The last time we spoke he talked about wanting to save money to buy a home,” Pacheco said, adding that Peres had a job at a Jewel-Osco not far from the temporary shelter. The makeshift community at the shuttered school is holding a memorial service for Peres Saturday at noon at Concord Missionary Baptist Church at 6319 S. Kimbark Ave. They hope to collect donations to transport Peres’ remains back to his family in Venezuela. Pacheco said he’s heard some ugly rumors about Peres’ death. They’re not true, he said. “We didn’t come here to cause problems or create a scandal,” Pacheco said. “What we really want is to provide for our families, to have a future.” Contributing: Tom Schuba The post Immigrant who died at Woodlawn shelter identified: ‘He was a very good person’ appeared first on CHICAGO DAILY CHRONICLE. via CHICAGO DAILY CHRONICLE https://ift.tt/q4lZnO8 June 08, 2023 at 12:39AM

Pinterest Launches Next Stage of Data Clean Rooms Trial with Wayfair
Pinterest Launches Next Stage of Data Clean Rooms Trial with Wayfair https://ift.tt/GOPt5CZ Pinterest is launching the next stage of its data clean room trial, in conjunction with LiveRamp, with retailer Wayfair set to become the first business to incorporate the new process. Pinterest originally announced its clean rooms partnership with LiveRamp back in January, as a means to counter the loss of insights as a result of Apple’s iOS 14 update, and other evolving privacy measures. Data clean rooms ensure that any data used within the targeting and analytics process is not accessible by a third party, which enables comparable audience targeting to what brands are now accustomed to within social apps. Wayfair will now become the first to test out the new process, which will provide insights into Wayfair customer actions in the app in a privacy-safe way. As explained by Pinterest: “In this clean room pilot, Wayfair will get aggregated insight into performance of their ads on Pinterest, with LiveRamp’s privacy-centric data collaboration platform ensuring neither party has access to the other party’s identifiable customer data. Pinterest completed an integration with LiveRamp earlier this year that unlocks advanced analytics with configurable permissions and privacy controls for secure data collaboration.” It could be a good way to improve your Pin targeting, based on your customer lists AND Pinterest info, which may enable more advanced segmentation and lookalike reach. Pinterest has also found that brands are seeing better results when combining data points, as opposed to using a single source in isolation, with advertisers that utilize more granular, interest-based targeting, combined with first-party customer lists, generally seeing significantly improved performance. Data loss has been a major shift within the digital marketing sector over the past two years, with every platform working on solutions to maximize the insights that they do have, and improve engagement rates. Clean rooms have emerged as a potential solution in some cases, and it’ll be interesting to see what kind of results this new integration provides for Pinterest marketers. You can read more about Pinterest’s data clean room trial here. LinkedIn Tests Generative AI Prompts for Ad Creation in Campaign Manager
LinkedIn Tests Generative AI Prompts for Ad Creation in Campaign Manager https://ift.tt/q4AZVhM LinkedIn is testing out yet another way to integrate generative AI into its systems, this time with copy suggestions in Campaign Manager, to help you come up with more effective wording for your LinkedIn ads. As you can see in this example, LinkedIn’s new generative AI option for ad creation will use ‘your company page, campaign insights and the power of AI’ to suggest multiple variations of ad copy and headline, to help guide your ad creation process. At the bottom left of the composer, you can see the various suggestions that LinkedIn’s AI system – powered by OpenAI (via Microsoft’s partnership with the company) – has come up with for the ad, so you can consider different approaches, based on what the AI system thinks might work best. LinkedIn says that the process will factor in a range of elements, including your ad objective, the targeting criteria you’re using, and the audience you’re looking to reach, to refine the copy suggestions, which, ideally, will make it easier to come up with more effective, engaging wording for your LinkedIn campaigns. Though it does also feel like LinkedIn is becoming increasingly robotic. The platform’s currently integrating AI-generated profile summaries, AI–assisted job descriptions, its in-development AI post creation prompts, an AI InMail assistant, and generative AI messages for job candidates within its Recruiter platform. That’s a lot, and it does seem like, increasingly, LinkedIn is going to be hosting a lot of bot-generated content, engaging with other bot responders in the app. Given the scale of AI integrations, that almost seems inevitable, and considering that LinkedIn is a platform for showcasing personal expertise and capability, that also seems like it could be problematic, in presenting a skewed view of who people actually are, and their professional capabilities, in the app. Like, of all social platforms, LinkedIn would be the worst for misrepresentation, given that hiring managers are making calls on candidates based on their LinkedIn activity. As such, over time, the increasing amount of AI-generated content could reduce trust in the app, and that doesn’t seem like an ideal situation for a platform that’s reliant on representing professional credibility. Still, according to LinkedIn’s data, 56% of professionals are keen to use generative AI to ‘create more content in less time’. Given the broader trends, LinkedIn sees this as an opportunity – but again, these additions will lead to a lot of AI-generated content flowing into its system. Like a lot, a lot. LinkedIn says that it’s starting to test its new generative AI elements in Campaign Manager with a small group of customers in North America, before expanding it to more regions ‘in the coming months’. LinkedIn Launches New Report on the State of B2B Marketing
LinkedIn Launches New Report on the State of B2B Marketing https://ift.tt/fnbQcmD LinkedIn has published its inaugural B2B Marketing Benchmark Report, which provides an overview of the current state of the B2B marketing space, including trend notes, industry shifts, and more, all of which could impact your planning. The 86-page report, which incorporates responses from over 1,900 marketing professionals, includes a heap of insights, and is well worth a read for those in the B2B space. You can download the full report here, but in this post, we’ll take a look at some of the key notes. First off, LinkedIn highlights rising optimism in the sector, with respondents indicating that B2B budgets are increasing once again. Of course, this is projected, and amid ongoing market instability, things could change fast. But there is a level of positivity among B2B marketers, which could lead to new opportunities moving forward. One of the key opportunities at present is AI, with many respondents indicating that generative AI is a key focus this year. Though at the same time, many CMOs are not confident that they’ll be able to find staff with the skills and talent to capitalize on these new tools – which could present new opportunity for those looking to advance their careers. Getting a better understanding of generative AI tools could be key to securing new roles, and expanding your potential, with a range of ways that these applications could be used in the B2B marketing process. And based on the skills trends among marketers, that could put you ahead of the pack. The report also looks at exactly where B2B execs are planning to spend their marketing budget over the next year. With more specific breakdowns of the types of events and activations they’re looking at. The report also looks at which social platforms are the main focus for B2B (oh, LinkedIn comes out on top, what a surprise). These are some valuable insights, which could help to inform your approach, and alignment with the rising skills and best practices in demand among business brands. In addition to the report, LinkedIn’s also launching a new ‘B2B Index’, which will use LinkedIn performance benchmarks to highlight B2B companies that are excelling at their brand building efforts in the app. As per LinkedIn: “With the B2B Index, companies can gain valuable insights into how their brand is perceived and position themselves as industry leaders. By examining factors such as creativity, distribution and investment, the B2B Index generates a composite score for every organization. This allows us to build a comprehensive and comparable assessment of effective B2B brand building for organizations within the same industry.” The B2B Index will power a new B2B Leaderboard, which will provide more insight into the best-performing brands, based on these factors. It’s not currently available to the public as yet, but LinkedIn says that it will launch the new leaderboard ‘in the next few months’, with updates coming twice a year. That is a heap of new insight for B2B brands, which could help to evolve your strategic approach, and again, it is worth checking out LinkedIn’s full report to get a better understanding of the latest trends. You can check out LinkedIn’s B2B Marketing Benchmark Report here. Microsoft begins testing RGB controls and a prettier File Explorer
Microsoft begins testing RGB controls and a prettier File Explorer https://ift.tt/tJ3mDsa It’s finally time to bling out your PC! Microsoft has begun testing its Dynamic Lighting feature for the PC’s RGB hardware, as well as a prettier File Explorer and updated emoji. Windows 11 Insider Preview build 23475 for the Dev Channel adds support for the Dynamic Lighting feature that Microsoft recently announced, which attempts to unify the various utilities for controlling the RGB hardware made by different manufacturers inside a common interface. Several device manufacturers including Acer, Asus, HP, HyperX, Logitech, Razer, and Twinkly have partnered with Microsoft on Dynamic Lighting, Microsoft said. Right now, though, the list of potentially compatible devices is small: basically a variety of Razer peripherals and not much else. Microsoft also indicated that even those peripherals have yet to be formally verified for compatibility, so there’s no guarantee they will work. (Scroll down to the bottom of this post for a full list.) The fact that there is now a single point of control within Windows for RGB peripherals and components, though, is exciting; to date, RGB lighting controls have largely been handled by a variety of manufacturer-specific utility apps plus some more generic utilities. If you have one of the approved peripherals and the new build, you can find the Dynamic Lighting controls within the Windows Settings list, specifically the Settings > Personalization > Dynamic Lighting menu. There’s an additional caveat: Because of the new code’s instability, Microsoft recommends that you use wired, rather than wireless, peripherals. Microsoft’s Settings menu will control your PC’s RGB lighting with the new Dynamic Lighting control. Microsoft Though Dynamic Lighting is certainly the flagship feature of this build, there’s a nice change arriving in File Explorer, too. The default file manager within Windows will add a carousel view as well as better insights into how much storage remains within your OneDrive subscription. Microsoft has tweaked File Explorer before, ensuring that you see how much storage you have in the cloud, and how much more you potentially need to buy. Windows 11’s updated File Explorer. Microsoft Microsoft is also adding support for Unicode Emoji 15, which will tweak Microsoft’s emoji. Microsoft’s latest build does fall under the Dev Channel, which means that there’s no guarantee that it will come to market until it hits the Beta Channel or the Release Preview Channel. Still, given the significance of the new features, we’d expect them to push through into the Beta Channel before long. Microsoft provided a list of Dynamic Lighting-compatible hardware that was current as of press time. A more up-to-date list can be found at the Dynamic Lighting Hardware MS Learn page, Microsoft said. Unicode Emoji 15, as imagined by Microsoft. This LG portable monitor lives inside a stylish briefcase
This LG portable monitor lives inside a stylish briefcase https://ift.tt/F1x9nbX Image: LG “Portable monitor” usually refers to a small, secondary screen, plugged into a laptop to expand its multi-tasking capabilities on the road. LG has something different in mind with the Standby Me Go. (Yes, that’s the real name). It’s definitely portable, in that it lives in an old-fashioned suitcase and folds out in a stylish display. But this gadget is more of an all-in-one entertainment center. While it’s possible to use it as a monitor or TV, it can also serve up streaming content or touchscreen games all on its own. The Standby Me Go (spotted by Ars Technica) is a little 27-inch LG smart TV, complete with the company’s WebOS TV software and four internal speakers with 40 watts of output. The screen is only 1080p, but that’s understandable given the size. The whole package folds down into a stylish briefcase, which can open up and display the screen in horizontal or vertical mode or even lay flat for head-to-head games. LG It can run for up to three hours on its internal battery, stream content via Wi-Fi, load it up directly via USB, or cast it from a nearby smartphone. (A neat trick is that when laid flat and streaming music, the screen displays a record player animation). And, if all else fails, you can plug in whatever you want via HDMI. It comes with a handy remote, which gets a dedicated slot in the case. It’s an interesting spin on the idea for sure, but this is definitely a case (sorry) of style over substance. The 27-inch-wide, 4.6-inch-thick case does look incredibly slick, like a thin modern hard-sided piece of luxury luggage. But aside from its ability to be used untethered for a short time, there’s not much you can do with this design that wouldn’t be possible with a small smart TV, which can be had for $200 or so from many electronics stores. So, how much does LG want for the Standby Me Go? The listing on its Korean store starts at 1.19 million won, which at today’s exchange rate is about $920 USD. Whether that’s worth it is up to you, or at least it might be, if LG ever decides to sell this thing internationally. Resident Evil 4 Remake is now free with new Radeon GPUs and laptops
Resident Evil 4 Remake is now free with new Radeon GPUs and laptops https://ift.tt/xbvrySf Image: AMD/Capcom There’s no better way to sweeten the deal of a new graphics card than by throwing in a recent high-end game to test it out. AMD’s latest free game promotion includes Resident Evil 4 Remake, one of the best-received games of the year so far. Digital codes are now being bundled with purchases of new Radeon RX 6000 and RX 7000-series cards and will be available until July 1st. The full list of desktop GPUs (including reference cards made by OEMs like Sapphire and MSI) and Radeon-equipped laptops that qualify for the free game code are as follows: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT AMD Radeon RX 7700S AMD Radeon RX 7600S AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT AMD Radeon RX 7600 AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT AMD Radeon RX 6800S AMD Radeon RX 6800 AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT AMD Radeon RX 6700 AMD Radeon RX 6700M AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT AMD Radeon RX 6600S Resident Evil 4 was originally released way back in 2005 for the Nintendo Gamecube. Despite being part of the long-running franchise, it was considered groundbreaking, both for revitalizing the stagnant series and transitioning the horror game’s fixed camera gameplay to full 3D. You can see RE4‘s influence in action and shooting games to this day, in everything from Gears of War to Fortnite. The 2023 remake has been praised for its visual fidelity and improved systems, though some of the original’s campy flavor has been removed in the remake. Free codes should be included in the purchase from most online retailers, but you might have to do a little registration legwork if you buy a new GPU or laptop in a brick-and-mortar store. For those making major upgrades or building a full gaming PC, AMD is also offering free codes for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor with the purchase of Ryzen 7000-series CPUs. Blackmailers are using AI to generate nudes from social media photos
Blackmailers are using AI to generate nudes from social media photos https://ift.tt/NpPuRgL Image: https://ift.tt/tOdbqMv The latest digital security bulletin from the FBI is sure to turn some heads, in both the literal and figurative sense. According to the US federal law enforcement agency, criminals are using AI-generated images to put a new spin on blackmail. They’ve been seen using publicly-posted images on social media and running them through an AI image generator to create convincing (but entirely fake) nude photos, then extorting the victims for money or real photos, in a practice the bureau is calling “sextortion.” This sort of thing isn’t exactly new — nothing was stopping malefactors from using social media selfies and Photoshop before, and that’s happened in some isolated cases. The danger comes from the ease of access to this technique created by new AI “deepfake” image tools. Now criminals don’t need months or years of experience in convincing image manipulation, they just need a few photos and the right software. The bureau says that fake explicit images of both adults and children have been spread on porn sites for general harassment in addition to being sent directly to victims for extortion attempts. The FBI has noticed an increase in victim reports over the last few months. AI-generated image tools have become incredibly easy to access for the public in the last year. One need only go to Bing to generate, say, a photo of “Marilyn Monroe in lederhosen.” Most public-facing AI image generators won’t let you train them on a set of specific photos or generate anything verging on pornography. But there are community-created software tools that can be run on individual PCs (often with the help of powerful consumer-grade hardware) without any such restrictions. Options for victims are few and frustrating. According to the FBI’s report (spotted by BleepingComputer), parents are recommended to closely monitor their children’s online activity and periodically search for their personal info in places it shouldn’t be. A good tip is using reverse image search services like Google or TinEye to find places where your personal photos may have been posted without your consent. Victims are instructed to not pay or otherwise appease blackmailers — it does not guarantee removal of images or video from the internet — and otherwise follow standard social media safety steps like declining friend requests from strangers and utilizing any available privacy settings.
