Hello, readers!

It has been a busy, transformative year, and I owe you guys a post to get caught up…which I’ll save for a little later. 

For now, let me break my radio silence to offer you a holiday treat: an incident report from EAS’s Director, regarding what happened when the Triumvirate attended The Ever Afters’ Annual Christmas party. (Spoiler alert: one of Lena’s inventions did not work out.)

I'm rereading The Ever Afters and dreading that last book like almost nothing before

I actually love rereading things now, you can catch so much more stuff! Somehow on my first two times through Of Giants and Ice I missed how Madame Benne's spellbook does actually follow the basic rule of Jack's magic beans; they were both bought when believed to be Very Important and both discarded when later incorrectly determined to be fakes. So obvious, yet so clever. It makes me wonder about the carton of ice cream and the crashed car that apparently grew into beanstalks at some point in the past though lol

ok so you see. chase is a trans boy but uses she/he/they pronouns. he gets dysphoria from stereotypical “feminine” things (pink wings, showing emotions, sleeping beauty tale, etc) but frequently wears dresses and makeup (rory played a large part in this). some of the insecurities they have about gender and about being half-fey overlap, and both of his parents sometimes unintentionally fuel these insecurities. I like to believe that gender identity and presentation among fey is quite different than it is with humans, but there are still some similar societal pressures.

thinking about the old fav again and rory landon being allergic to horses was one of the funniest things shelby added to the books.

Jack (so far): I would walk through fire for my son. Well, not fire, that would be dangerous. But a super humid room. But not too humid, because you know… my hair.

Rory: Every time I’m around Chase, my pulse increases, my breath shortens, and my temperature skyrockets.

Rory: I think I’m allergic to him.

Book 1 Rory: I don’t know if they’ll notice, but I slipped a little note in each of my friends’ lunches saying how much I love them.

Lena, pulling out a 100 page letter: Aw! This is so nice!

Chase, pulling out paper with a middle finger drawn on it and circled: Aw man.

Rory: Chase and I were crossing the street, and this dude drove by and honked at us

Lena: *Sighing* What did Chase do?

Rory: He chased the guy to the next red light, then reached into his window and...

Chase: Who wants a steering wheel?

Chase: Sometimes the Director asks “What do you think you’re doing?” But that just means stop. She doesn’t actually want to know my thought process.
