Why only Blitzo has this picture
Iāve seen the question a few times now and I really want people to understand something about Blitzo that gets overlooked quite a lot, despite the show making it pretty clear: Blitzo doesnāt understand love.
That does not mean he doesnāt feel it, he very obviously feels platonic, familiar and romantic love. He understands that he does love someone. What he doesnāt understand is the intimate nature of love itself. Blitzo has had a difficult childhood that did not teach him emotional intimacy.
We KNOW that Cash, Blitzoās father, is a total scumback. He emotionally blackmails his son into doing something Blitzo himself was against and based on the way Blitzo reacted, this is not a rare occurence. He did not do this the first time in āThe Circusā.Ā Blitzo loves his mother more than he does his father, that is why his father could manipulate him so easily. Blitzo learned from a young age that people will use your feelings against you. They will manipulate and use you.
THAT is why he does it to Stolas. He learned that using someones feelings against them is the way to get what you want. Manipulation is his go-to response to reach a goal if he has the option, BECAUSE his father taught him that as a child.
Blitzo became a highly observent person because of his upbringing. Yes, he does have his difficulties with social cues. But being socially observant end being observant in general are two very different things.Ā Why do you guys think I.M.P. only got caught 2 times in the human world? The first time, in āMurder Familyā was caused by Moxxie. The second time was caused by Blitzo AND Moxxie in āTrugh Seekersā.
In āTruth Seekersā we see that the moment there is a threat Blitzo not only protects his friends/family but he also got into the only hiding spot immediatly. Despite not seeming like taking care and being on guard in the human world he does map out the area heās in.
So to conclude up to thos point:Ā
> Blitzo does not understand emotional intimacyĀ
> Things we do not understand are scary for us! (This is a simple fact of psychology)Ā
> Blitzo is very observant
We see this behavior from Blitzo much more clear in āThe Circusā. Once he is caught by the hellhounds Stolas walks Blitzo back to his bedroom.
And what does Blitzo do? He observes EVERYTHING! All he has to do is follow Stolas, he has no intention to return to the palace at this point in time so he does not need to know anything about it. But he still looks around as well as he can while following Stolas.
This serves a purpose. First, he knows the layout of the palace Ā from his childhood but this refreshes his memory. Second, he gets a glimpse about Stolas life and mental state. We are shown that Blitzo takes in all the portraits in Stolas palace FOR A REASON.Ā This short walk tells Blitzo that Stolas is unhappy without Stolas ever saying a word about it. This image gets reinforced once Stolas says the āFirst ever friendā line that getās Blitzo to stay.
Why is that important? Because this establishes a pattern. Blitzo KEEPS watching Stolas during their interactions. In āLoo-Loo-Landā Blitzo plays Bodyguard and we see him keeping track of Stolas and the people on the park.
The moment someone gets close to Stolas and Octavia he is there as long as he is not distracted. In āHarvest Moon Festivalā he has such a close eye on Stolas and everyone around him that he notices Striker disappearing and he can stop Striker just in time due to this.
Even in āOzzieāsā Blitzo keeps an eye on Stolas. As long as he isnāt distracted by M&M he keeps track on what Stolas does.
Notice where he is looking in all these pictures? He keeps track of Stolas movements. Blitzo is not good with emoti0onal cues but he knows body language. So the body language is what he keeps track of.Ā And here comes the crux of the issue! Blitzo takes whatever Stolas says serious because he does not understand that Stolas himself isnāt aware enough to realize when he is demeaning or condecending.
āYou are so cute when you are serious!~"Ā
"My grimoire is actually important and it isnāt supposed to be lend out to itty bitty imps, like yourself!ā
Stolas doesnāt mean it condecending or to belittle Blitzo, WE know that. But here is the problem for Blitzo: Stolas body language does not disprove the interpretation that Stolas means these statements in a condecending way.Ā Blitzo likes Stolas, he likes spending time with Stolas. If he truly resented Stolas he would not have accepted the offer to bodyguard or the invitation to the Harvest Moon Festival. He also wouldnāt spend time with Stolas outside of the bed but we know he does it.
Stolas has the pictures on his phone to prove it! This implies that they spend time together outside of their full moon deal. But Blitzo always has the same annoyed expression on his face, why?
Being annoyed is his defense mechanism. Whenever Blitzo gets reminded of his trauma or doesnāt understand something he gets annoyed and angry. But Stolas didnāt press on his trauma buttons until Ozzie so he was never angry, just annoyed.
And here comes the next problem: Blitzo hates himself.
In Blitzoās mind he is the reason all his relationships broke apart. The people he had relationships with are all different so he sees himself as the problem. He makes their life worse. They will all leave him. Their life would be better without him.
This is what Blitzo thinks. That is why he crosses himself out of the pictures. And you know what this leads to? āI donāt deserve happyness because I will just ruin this persons life and they will leave me in the and so why sould I even try?ā
We have the clues all throughout the show that Blitzo is depressed Ā and hates himself. Here we actually see this.Ā Ā
Ā On a subconcious level Blitzo knows he loves Stolas. That is why he has that picture. He wanted to capture a moment of happiness for himself with the person he loves.
We saw that he does that with all the people in his life. Verosika, Fizz, Moxxie, Millie, Loona and his parents. He has pictures of all of them in a moment of personal happiness for him.
But Loona is the only one that knows he keeps thoose pictures because she lives with him. Nobody else knows that. So why has Blitzo the only picture where he is happy with Stolas?Ā Because whenever Stolas made a picture there was something to either trigger Blitzo being annoyed or he wanted to hide how happy he was BECAUSE he doesnāt want to be vulnerable in front of Stolas.
The picture Blitzo keeps of them is one that is made in total piece. They are lying in the bed, cuddling and Stolas is sleeping soundly. Blitzo never showed Stolas this picture because he is scared to be this vulnerable and he doesnāt think he deserves to be happy with Stolas.Ā Stolas is a powerful demon Prince. Stolas is part of the Ars Goetia, in rank just below the sins. Blitzo sees himself as a fuck-up deserving of suffering. An Imp, the lowest of the low in hell.
Blitzo thinks Stolas deserves better than him.
Blitzo is scared of being emotionally intimate and vulnerable.
Blitzo hates himself and is scared of ruining Stolas life.
This is the moment Blitzo thought āI ruined his lifeā and āHim rejecting me hurtsā At this point in time Blitzo was already in love with Stolas but never allowed himself to show it. Because he himself didnāt realize it.
