I love how because people hate Mailin due to her white feminism, they’re incapable of admitting something that has been consistently obvious since Nora’s season: Mailin is the most patient, caring, and supportive character on the show. She was the most understanding during both Nora and Fatou’s struggles. She talked to Nora when the others began ignoring her. She was the one who actually researched Fatou’s struggles and helped her. She was also the one Fatou trusted to open up with about Kieu My. She was the only character who wasn’t shit talking the others in the kitchen fight and stood up for Fatou. Even when she was in the wrong (the Ava conflict), she did everything she could to understand and be supportive and felt genuinely bad about hurting Ava. The few times we saw her in Isi’s season, again she has the caring and understanding nature we have seen from her since the beginning. You don’t have to like Mailin, but this has been a consistent trait of hers in the entire new gen series.

I’m not ready to talk (in depth) about the level of trust and familiarity Isi and Sascha have with each other. So, I’ll make it short: Isi likes these girls. He is comfortable with them, that’s why he started dancing in the first place. And their dancing was all in right from the start (it takes a lot to dance like this, alone, in front of ppl) BUT the full level of contentment and enjoyment came with Sascha. Even the girls felt it.

I think a lot of ppl would agree, that they did a good job with the music this season. The pinnacle of this is the S A SH ISI playlist. It’s a love letter, that held up the “best friend to lovers” agenda better than the show itself.
Anyway. I want to show you one example, that maybe isn’t the most obvious one, but highlights, how fitting the music was.
We got this trailer after s7 ended:
The song ist Stuck by Laetitia. I wanna talk a bit about the lyrics bc they fit Isi so well (and maybe even tell Isi’s self discovery and struggle with their gender identity better than the show itself).

S7 Isi was a follower. She never decided for herself in the beginning, but went along with other. In the end she lost herself in all these shenanigans.

Gender identity and being true to yourself is never really done. Isi struggled. Their brother struggled. They fell but got up in the end.

I mean… we always complained how we never really got Isi’s pov. What was he thinking? We speculated a lot but didn’t really get a lot of clues.
Am I the only one that feels this way?
Isi tried to fit in “with the boys” when she started the new school. She started dancing class and, at first, wasn’t really one of the girls either. She was searching for someone who can relate to her, not really fitting anywhere. She thought Lou would be the one and clung onto her.

This is Isi hiding in their bed and watching themself in the mirror with different outcome, multiple times. We don’t have a lot of Isi alone time but my headcanon and the few glimpses combined tell me, that Isi is stuck and needed a trigger to get out and change something (the trigger revealed itself as Sascha cutting Isi off).

Weedy comes to mind here. Isi knew he should get to Sascha’s gig. But he still went along and had a (stupid) rave at school. So, even if he knew better, he still did, what he always did and followed the lead of the loud people around him.

Isi lost herself completely and only started to find herself again when she went to the cemevi, feeling her roots again and realising what’s important.

When Isi was down they wanted to isolate themself. “I just wanna bury myself this weekend.”, they told Josh and Finn. In the end they planned a trip to help a friend. That’s growth.

Isi was very open when he told Fatou, in s6, that he kinda felt disconnected from Consti. But in the beginning of season 7 he was still pretty tight with him. But when they met Lou their connection went down the drain.
Ultimately that triggered the much needed break between Consti and Isi. Isi was out of it. He could find himself again. Be with the people he loves and that are good for him and do the stuff he enjoys, like dancing and being a plant parent.
He embraced this Isi:

i’m missing isi and sascha a lot today so here are some headcanons i thought about while trying to cope with the saschisi sized hole they left in my heart:
- sascha always has a hair tie wrapped around his wrist in case isi wants to tie her hair and has none with them at the moment (it happened already, more than once actually, so sascha thought it would be a nice thing to do for him) (the first time isi needed it she couldn’t stop herself from lounging themselves on sascha’s arms and planting a kiss on his mouth, thanking him for being such a thoughtful boyfriend) (and if isi sometimes forgets their hair tie on purpose just so she can borrow one from his boyfriend and give him a thank you kiss just because after that, well, no one has to know)
- isi always surprises sascha at work whenever he can (the first time it happened sascha was surprised and isi was afraid she was going too fast again, being too clingy, but sascha let them know it was a good surprise, he loved having isi around while working, so after that more often than not people could find isi chilling at sascha’s workplace, sometimes listening to music, other times trying to do his homework or be helpful somehow, handing sascha the tools he needed when he asked for them (and always receiving a kiss in return) and most times simply ogling her cute boyfriend do his work and daydreaming about their future together)
- they absolutely love cooking together (it’s one of their favourite things to do together since the day they prepared dinner for both their families to finally tell them they were together and the night was so absolutely lovely they wanted to do it again and again and again and it kinda became their thing - they don’t always cook for everyone, most of the times it’s only for the both of them, but they love spending time creating something together and enjoying it afterwards, always taking a lot more time than necessary because they spend a ridiculous amount of time being distracted by each other, stopping in between chores to dance, kiss, hug, dance a little more and just be stupidly in love with each other)
- sascha knows how sometimes isi thinks they’re being too much, too fast, and he notices when isi tries to hold herself back from showing too much, afraid that sascha will feel overwhelmed with how much affection he has for him, or that he’ll feel suffocated somehow, so sascha makes sure to let isi know how much he cares about him too and that all his affection is more than welcome, whenever they want to give it to sascha he’ll gladly accept it all, and he does so in simple ways, like sending little messages here and there telling isi he misses her throughout the day, making playlists for them, showing up unannounced at isi’s door in the middle of the night just to give her a goodnight hug and kiss and little things like that (and it may seem small, but it’s exactly enough)
- isi has some kind of special sascha sense that makes her very attune to whatever sascha’s feeling (maybe it’s because they’ve been friends their whole lives and they just know sascha that well or maybe isi just pays a lot of attention, who knows?), so they always know when sascha’s feeling down, even though he tries to hide it, and always know what to do to make him feel better (sometimes he needs space so isi gives him that, other times a slice of his favourite pie does the trick and isi is more than glad to go to sascha’s favourite bakery to get it, and other times he just needs isi there with him, playing with his hair while they listen to their favourite playlist and let sleep take over whenever they’re both tired enough to do so) and it’s good, they’re good
