Wesley could only chuckle at her question about his manipulation. "No, I am not, but I am using it to my advantage to keep you around," he confessed with a grin. He wouldn't lie; he loved having Pembe around, and he would do it if he could have her around by bribing her with Walnut. However, his smile fell when she explained her situation, it made his heart ache for her. "Well, you're always welcome in my house, I can promise you that," he told her with a warm smile. He meant that too.
"Yes and no; I would watch him do it and wondered what it was like, so I asked him to show me, and he did. My mom worried about us both, but she was glad I stopped a couple of years ago," he squeezed her hand gently. "You just name the date. My mom will be thrilled to meet you anytime. She'd probably cook a whole feast, though," he chuckled softly as he imagined his mom cooking Pembe a meal in their kitchen.
As Wes followed Pembe, he listened intently and took her concerns about her class seriously. He thanked her for the apron and put it on, tying it tightly around his waist. "I would like to make a vase," he said. "As for the indecision you're having. I think a second session would benefit you and your business. I am sure people can and will make the time to come get their finished project. I know I definitely will," he replied as he took a seat where she directed him to in front of the wheel.
"Hopefully, this vase will come out useful and not a mess," he joked. I am sure my teacher is going to do a great job, though," he added, gently nudging her arm.
"Are you manipulating me into dates because of my love of sweet Walnut?" Pembe laughed the entire time she asked the question. There was obviously no manipulation happening; she adored both Wesley and Walnut. The date was just icing on a very sweet cake. The laughter died in her throat as soon as he asked the question. For a moment she had to tell herself to breathe, that he hadn't asked that question to upset her. Pem shook her head 'no', offering an apologetic smile. "I wish I was, but, um, my parents disowned me. That's why I moved here. I wasn't welcome in their home anymore and I didn't really feel safe in Turkey anymore."
She much preferred listening to him talk about his mother and the glimmer in her eyes were happy tears for Wesley. "I'm sorry that you lost your father. Was he the person that had you try bull riding or was that all your idea? I wish I could have seen that. I'll be honest, I can't even remember if I know what a bull looks like, let alone imagining what riding one would look like. Your mom must have been worried sick about you doing that." Pembe wasn't a jealous person and the twist in her stomach was really more longing to fix the rift with her own mother than it was envy over what they shared. "I'd love to meet her some time and thank her for spoiling me."
After telling Wesley how to place an item in her refrigerator so that she could easily identify it, Pembe was off to get them ready for their session. "All right, are you ready?" She held out her hand leading him in the familiar path through her studio to the set up. Her fingers brushed the low chair, noting the fabric of the apron, hers was already on. "Okay, this is for you, so you don't get your clothes filthy. We'll start at the wheel to make your mug or vase. I have enough clay out for either. Then we'll move to the work table to trim or add handles. We'll move them to the storage shelf to dry after that." Pem pointed as they talked then said, "That's where I get indecisive about doing things. I could either schedule second sessions for people to come back and paint their own items, or I could have them take a dry, finished one, and paint that. Firing a mug is about eight to ten hours in the kiln I have, so that means they wouldn't even be able to take it home the same day they paint."

Adelaide couldn't help but grin at Nate when he reassured her that she could travel with him without a problem. The thought of seeing most of the world with Nate made a warmth spread through her body that resulted in apparent affection in her eyes for him as he helped her reheat their dinner. "A rooftop dinner date in Seoul sounds like a dream come true. I haven't been there," she answered as she walked toward the fridge to pull out the sangria she had made earlier to accompany their dinner. "There are a lot of places I haven't been that I would love to go with you, Nate," she continued on the topic as Addy sent him a loving smile. Some part of her still couldn't believe they would soon be moving in and living together.
"I only said that because I didn't want to make things any more difficult with me moving from across the country," she promised him. "I actually would like to live in Boston. I am confident enough that I can make my career work anywhere as long as I stay focused and dedicated," then she nodded when he explained that his family would have to vet her movers if she chose to move to New York or DC. "That's understandable," after all, they were a very prominent family, and she understood why they took those measures. "But I'd love to live here with you and our dogs. It's peaceful," she got close enough to kiss his cheek softly. "Now, let's eat dinner," she smiled at him as she plated the reheated food and poured sangria into wine glasses for them.
"I'd like to hear your ideas about me renting out my place in California, as I don't want to sell it. And also how to invest that extra income I'll have." More because of the sentimental value it held in her heart and mind than anything else. "I haven't done it before, and while I am good with numbers, I know you're much better, my love."
"Of course you can travel with me, Addy." She wouldn't be able to go to meetings or business dinners with him, but traveling with him would be no issue at all. If anything it would probably lead to a nice break for Cosmo since Adelaide had always done a great job at putting him at ease. "I doubt you'd want to make all the trips, but any time you want to then you should come. I'd love nothing more than to show you the world— I mean, I know you've done that a bit with modeling, but I think your professional travel and mine probably doesn't have that much overlay. Either way, a rooftop dinner date in Seoul is in our near future."
With no hesitation, Nate moved to reheat their dinner. As he got things going he looked back at her and sighed, "I promise, I don't mind if your books join mine. I didn't mean for it to sound like I did. It might be easier to keep some things in storage and look for a bigger place. We could also move most of mine New York or D.C. I mean, assuming you'll want to be in Boston more because the dogs will have the most space here. What are you thinking? Would it be better for your career to be in New York? If we move you in there or D.C. the family will have to vet all the movers or buy out whatever agreement you've made with your current ones to use ours." The Delmore hierarchy was fickle and if Addy wanted him, she'd learn that quickly.

Plot: Based on The Wedding Planner. Your muse and Fernanda met one night entirely by accident when she saved your muse from being overrun by a rude bike rider. They spent a fun night connecting by walking and talking about anything and everything. Fast-forward two weeks or so; surprise, Fernanda is planning your muse's wedding! Let the angst and chaos ensue!
Fernanda wanted nothing more than for the ground to swallow her whole while she laughed at how the universe punched her in the face. Of course, the man she spent an amazing night with and almost kissed, was engaged. To add insult to injury, she was the one planning the wedding. His fiance insisted since Fernanda Abundiz was in demand. Not that it was a bad thing in her book, but Fernanda did work very hard to get to where she was right now. She ignored how much her heart fell and put on a smile. "I'm so glad to hear I was highly recommended and congratulations on your engagement and wedding! You two must be very happy and in love," she looked at the man briefly before turning her attention to the bride-to-be. "Do you have a date and location set already?" Fernanda diligently listened to her and wrote down everything she thought was important. It all seemed to be going well until the bride had to excuse herself for a bit. He made a gesture toward her.
"No, I don't want to hear whatever excuses you have. I think things are obvious. Don't you think so too?" She did her best to keep her voice neutral and quiet, but it was hard when he was in front of her again. "I mean, you're getting married, for fuck sake!" She hardly ever cussed, but today seemed to be an exception. "I'm so dumb. I can't believe I almost kissed you. Thank the gods, it didn't happen! But don't worry, I don't plan to tell your lovely fiancee a thing if that's what you're worried about," her work face was back on, ultimately void of any emotion at the moment, or so she hoped.

To all my lovely and fantastic writing partners;
Hi, I know it has been a long while since I have been active and replying to threads. The last time I made a post was a few weeks ago, and I am sorry I haven't communicated regularly.
There has been a lot going on with me and within my family, and I don't know how I am alive now. There have been significant losses in the family that have made my depression and anxiety significantly worse.
I also had some very terrifying health scares, and my job hasn't let down either, the stress of everything I have constantly been dealing with has made it very difficult to get on, and I am so sorry about that.
Yesterday, however, has been the most devastating so far. One of my dear cousins very unfortunately and sadly overdosed in the early morning hours, and it's been tough on the family.
So, I promise it has not been a lack of interest or muse; it has just been life throwing curveballs at me. You're all extremely talented. I still want to continue writing with all of you.
If you are still on board, I will attempt to reply to things to distract myself and keep myself busy. My therapist recommended I try to do things that make me happy, and writing does make me happy; it's just been hard to turn on the creative when dealing with loss. But I will be trying my best.
I hope you are all doing well, though.

A Workshop for Creating Magical/ Fictional Crystals: A Guide from a Geologist
Hi folks, its me, here to talk about fictional writing again! Today I'm just tackling the idea of magical stones/mana stones by looking at existing minerals today and some neat properties that they have, and how you can apply these things to a fictional world. The goal is mainly to help you if you are stuck trying to come up with a unique magic system, or a unique identification/characteristic of your mineral.
First Things First: Mineral Shapes
I am exhausted, petered out, down-right fatigued by seeing every mineral depicted with having the crystal structure of calcite and quartz. There are soooooo many cooler, more interesting crystal structures, don't you think you would stop and take a look at a perfect cube in nature? It is completely unsettling.
Second: Color
Color within minerals can either be really important, or not important at all! It is your choice to decide if color is going to be something that means something to your mineral. But what are some times when the color is important? Well.... there are some elements that are called chromophores, this classification just indicates that these elements, when present, will determine the color of whatever they are in. So, if you wanted to treat mana like a chromophore, you could say, "Oh everything that contains mana turns green!" This could mean that regardless of the mineral, if that mineral is a specific color, it means it contains mana. This concept is exciting because you can just stop here and use minerals that already exist! You can also use it as an indicator for a magical ore! Chromophores are typically metals, so if you are making a new metal weapon, making the ore of that metal a unique color would make a lot of sense!
However, your mineral can also just be every color of the rainbow like quartz and perhaps that's what makes identifying your mana stones elusive and create an illusion of scarcity that your character can solve.
There are other things that can change the colors of minerals, like radiation damage, and electron exchange, but I think that is beyond what would be helpful! So lets talk about some unique color properties that happen in nature that seem magical in the first place! Maybe you don't need to design a mana stone, but you want a unique gemstone that only the royal family passes down or something (IDK).
The first one is the alexandrite effect! This is where a mineral can change color in natural light vs. incandescent light. (the mineral itself is not changing, but the lights contain different amounts of different colors that then get absorbed by the stone). Even if you don't use electricity in your fictional world, you could have the colors change in the presence of light magic. This could create fun misunderstandings about what the mineral is reacting to!
Pleochroism
Pleochroism is something that most minerals have, it is frequently used to help identify minerals in thin sections, however minerals are usually not pleochroic enough for it to be visible to the naked eye! Pleochroism is just a fancy name to describe the change in how light is absorbed based on the angle of the mineral! So if you scroll up to the first image where I showed a lot of crystal shapes, most of them have angles where they are longer and shorter! This will effect the way light travels in the crystal. Tanzanite is a popular mineral that does this.
Photochromism
This is when a mineral will change color (in a reversible way) when exposed to UV light (or sunlight), I am not going to go too into the details of why this is happening because it would require me to read some research papers and I just don't feel like it. The mineral that is best known for this is Hackmanite!
Alright! These are all the really cool color effects that might inspire you or maybe not, but now I am going to talk about how you might find your minerals within a rock!
When I see a lot of magical caves/mines, typically I see them with some variation of a geode honestly, but most minerals are not found like that! Now I am sure most of you guys have seen a geode, so I will not really talk about those, but I will talk briefly about porphyroblasts which is when the mineral grows larger than the minerals around it, this happens in metamorphic minerals!

Another way you might find minerals is in a pegmatite! This is when all minerals are really large! This is a formed from really slow crystalizing magma!
But something else to think about is that your mineral might just be massive, it doesn't have to have distinct crystals, it may be similar to jadeite where small grains grow together which leaves it looking smooth and seamless! A note about all of these is that you would have to mine into the rock to find these, there would not be any natural caves in these rocks! Caves are only ever really formed in limestones and maybe marbles (rocks that react with acid).
How can your characters identify these minerals?
Typically when you are out in the field you will look to see what type of rocks the minerals are found in (The overall texture of the rock will tell you how it formed). If you know how the rock formed, it will narrow down the amount of minerals you need to think about by quite a bit! Next, you are going to look closely at it and observe its crystal structure, does it have an obvious crystal? if so what is the general shape? If it is broken, how did it break? Did it fracture like glass or did it break along uniform planes. Some minerals have a thing called cleavage (breaks along planes of weakness). If a mineral exhibits this habit, it will again help narrow this down. Next we can look at color. Color can be misleading, because minerals like quartz can be any color imaginable, but minerals like olivine will always be green! The next thing your character can do is test for hardness, minerals all have a specific hardness that can help identify it as well.
After you go through all of this, your mineral might have some special property! This could be magnetism, fluorescence, reactions to acid, or any of the color changing effects I mentioned above! Other than that, your character can take it back to a lab and do a number of things to identify it, but the most typical thing would be for them to make a thin section (very thin piece of the rock) and observe it under a cross polarized microscope!
