i’ve been on holiday this week but just as a note, yes, billy and teddy were totally merlin and king arthur this year for halloween. pointy wizard hat included. teddy had a plastic sword and crown to match, even though he already has his real ones. it lead to a lot of story time on the flagship with confused alliance members.

     it’s a mix of childlike wonder and childlike guilt, the SCARLET WITCH worrying for his safety, and knowing him by name at all. even if he’s the one that gave her little option for it, clawing her out of her amnesiac prison. he’s not sure if any of it makes him feel like a real hero.

you know that thing where you consume any kind of media and you subconsciously go ‘ okay so what kind of au is this ‘ and make half-baked ideas you’ll never use but think about anyway? here’s this weeks :

donut county au : - billy works at the donut county comic book store - their most popular comic is the quad squad - a superhero-style story following five raccoons who fight crimes against garbage using their upgraded quad-copters - ordered a donut box to share with his boyfriend. got holed

state of decay au : - billy is part of the enclave called ‘ the young avengers ‘, who are an off-shoot of a much larger enclave by a similar name, who fell into disarray and who’s members are now lost somewhere to the wastelands - billy has four stars in geek trivia - the encalve’s biggest weakness is their lack of agreed leadership, since the role is passed around between multiple survivors who can never agree on who leads. even billy has spearheaded some of their movements before, but kate, eli and nate usually trade the responsibility around with no clear idea of who might be assigned. the rest of the group have yet to come to a vote about it

     billy’s less than perfectly pitying, glad to see ivan back from the realm of the all-seeing after a solid thirty minutes of whatever multiverse insight he’s been gifted with. or cursed. this one sounded more like cursed. ❛ i opened your third eye. it’s a thing i learned. ❜

     the students at strange academy are slower to take to peeping into the fabrication and stitches of all reality than ivan— it’s something billy was introduced to at the tender age of ‘ possible next sorcerer supreme ‘ when stephen pressed his thumb gently on his temple, and billy blinked into a world he’d never even knew existed. he only recently picked up the same trick, a prod of his fingertip to anyone’s head, coaxing sight undiscovered out into the multi-world to a thousand possibilities.

     but maybe he needs work. ❛ haven’t actually tried it before, though. ❜

Part of him wants to just goof off, play around with the masks and props like Billy and yet he can’t help how his mind is wandering. “What are you planning to do for Halloween?” Peter picks up a pointed witch hat and puts it on his head, the point bending falling to the side.

     billy has to copy him, plucking a plastic slasher-knife from the shelf and turning it, watching whatever red goop they’ve shoved inside run like the blood of a fresh kill. not really his style. ❛ the team is planning a horror movie night. if the bad guys stay home for halloween, anyway. ❜

     which teddy might shiver through, or tommy might just use as an excuse to cause tricks instead of treats. he hasn’t been given the option of what the movie collection is going to be, kate designating herself the party planner, with optional donations to their sugary pot-luck. so far, he’s bought doritos and his dad’s famous cupcakes. ❛ you? ❜

“I know you’re busy with the space Merlin gig and Strange’s-”  Knock off Hogwarts.  “Magic…School…Thing.  But we’ve got a problem and it’s looking like it might be all hands on deck.”  He shifts his weight, and his helmet, from one hip to the other, drumming his fingers over the faceplate.  He’d say it was just that time of year again when all the goth kid wannabes screw with things they shouldn’t and cause a little chaos that’s put to rights easily enough, but this whole year has been one thing after another after another, and none of them are thinking it’s going to be the usual Halloween bullshit.  Plus there’s Mephisto to consider - he’s supposed to be dead, right, but so are a lot of people, and they’re still wandering around just fine.  Unless they’re also zombies and have been for years, and at this point he wouldn’t even be a little surprised.  “Cap’s calling everyone in, especially the magic folks.  He’d have come himself but-”

He trails off with a vague gesture.  Team leader doing unfun leader things.  Tony doing the charming (not-so-charming) message boy things.  Steve had said they needed to be kind of picky, use a personal touch, not just broadcast over the comms and while Tony isn’t thrilled playing singing telegram, he tends to agree.

     he’s going to chalk this up as another reason to feel important. as if having his RSVP to his post-almost extinction level event wedding wasn’t already enough of a reason to keep tony in his good books. he’ll have to keep classing an in-person call to action as one of the highlights of his hero career. maybe he should raise the bar a little from when he was fifteen.

     ❛ tony, you could have sent me a spam e-mail and i would have said yes. ❜ he can practically feel every iteration of his past self, in this reality and the next, sputtering at the name that’s anything other than ‘ IRON MAN‘. or even just ‘ sir ‘. figures he should probably be getting over his hero-worship when the guy ate finger food sandwiches at his wedding reception. ❛ what kinda problem? ❜

as well as being crowned prince-consort and court wizard, billy is also eventually integrated as the sole human member of the knights of the infinite, who continue to serve at emperor dorrek’s side after his ascension to the throne. billy’s noted more than once that teddy’s really hammering home the ‘ king arthur of space ‘ vibes, even if lan-zarr doesn’t quite grasp what he’s talking about when he suggests they get a big round table to solidify it.
