For the last goddamn time...
"Kill your darlings" means "if something is holding you back, get rid of it, even if it sounds pretty."
That's it! That's all it means! It means if you're stuck and stalled out on your story and you could fix the whole block by removing something but you're avoiding removing that thing because it's good, you remove that thing. That's the darling.
It does NOT mean
That you have to get rid of your self-indulgent writing
That you should delete something just because you like it (?wtf?)
That you need to kill off characters (??? what)
That you have to pare your story down to the absolute bare bones
That you have to delete anything whatsoever if you don't want to
The POINT is that you STOP FEELING GUILTY for throwing out good writing that isn't SERVING THE STORY.
The POINT is that you don't get so HUNG UP on the details that you lose sight of the BIG PICTURE.

Toby Fox may be the creator I respect most because after creating a game so huge that Nintendo sniped his character for Smash and the Pope's orchestra played his music for the Goddamn Pope I VERY much think it would be within Toby's right to develop of God complex, crack and become insane, go on a bender in the streets of LA, and then have an extremely public Twitter meltdown before getting suspended. Imagining the pressure, I think I personally would do all those things, in that order, in under 6 months' time.
Instead as far as I can tell he's just like "I'm dog" and has been like "I'm dog" since Undertale launched and he's just out there somewhere with near-total anonymity just making his little haha games. Absolute King.

You don't have to insist that any of your weird shit rituals you like doing are some sort of a remnant of ancient pre-christian pagan traditions that trace back thousands of years. You can just do weird pagan shit right now. Every time I'm home alone and I hear a noise that could be a ghost, I say out loud: "fuck off or start paying rent." And whatever caused that noise is gone.
My last ancestor who didn't know what christianity was probably didn't know what rent was, either.
