I'm reblogging this against to stress that if you wanna make a whole planet's worth of worldbuilding, but the math and technical details of worldbuilders like Artifexian (who I also recommend) kind of makes your head spin, then Madeline James's guides are for you.
Truly the level of love and detail gone into these is out of this world. Also did I mention how studiously she cites her sources, which have led me to even MORE helpful, easy to digest resources when I wanna get even crazier? She's like if I wasn't mentally ill and had the ability to put together these guides.
Also she has a Youtube but I haven't watched any of them because I'm allergic to videos but I'll link that too

honestly big cats don't have super long childhoods, i've encountered this in my tiger-based project. they start learning how to hunt at 6 months irl and have their adult teeth at 16 and are usually able to consistently make their own kills at 18 but tigers aren't reliably reproducing until they're like. 3-4--
oh yeah no dont worry i know that! coev cat lifecycles are longer than irl big cat lifecycles as well, where the average kitten is about a year old before they start learn how to hunt, and another two years before theyre considered adults, and typically don't reproduce until around 5-6
#coev cats are also smaller than big cats#around the size of a lynx#i have the basics of their life cycles just not the details#infant developmental stages i guess

ive been attending a pollinator stewardship course and it incorporates a range of indigenous knowledge and ideologies and one of the speakers mentioned that (i believe ojibwa? have to rewatch) at least one of the groups call insects little spirits and i haven't stopped thinking about that since

The last few krakens and giant squids I saw in any media had entirely soft suckers like an octopus so now I'm wondering something.
Giant squid generally have "tooth lined" suckers, and the colossal squid's two longer tentacles have suckers that evolved into full blown claws all over them.

man so one big blank in coev is the subject of their founders/founding and the flavour of ancestor worship, especially how it fits in with worship of the gods
but i think the answer is that the relationship the prides have with the gods and with their ancestors is very different
the gods aren't telling them what to do or guiding them or anything, they're all about explaining the world through metaphor and story. worship of the gods is more like science class, learning about how things are and why
whereas ancestors DO guide the prides, give them advice, tell them shit, etc etc and are considered to have once been actually real alive dudes who did shit, and definitely not gods

Do you have any other wip names for the prides that you didn’t use that I could mayhaps steal? 👀🙏
AKGDJDSS so goldspring was sunspring for awhile but i kinda realized that putting sun in the name would emphasize some connection between GS and hiverne that wasn't really present so i had to decide between leaning into Hiverne related stuff or changing it to something more fitting
i also considered Flamespring but Idk. smth bout that wasn't doing it for me.
and i actually DID find in my notes the other night another name I'd written down for Windveldt, which i considered for their old name: Flame Singers
ultimately scrapped it though because it's not...idk. i think im looking for a somewhat unique naming scheme, and Flame Singers isn't scratching that itch for me
and bogden and coldbank didnt go through any iterations! one and done (though i did consider coming up with other options, never went through with it)
