the beauty of shivers/la revacholière is the concept of some incomprehensible transcendental entity seeing and knowing and loving you without having any authority over you. the genius loci of a place made consciousness, a world/city spirit as a god without entitlement, an unholy deity. it executes no control, it requires no worship. it loves you for loving it, protects you because you are its child and hopes you protect it back. it’s an anti-religion, a mutually beneficial relationship with an unfathomable being which loves you unconditionally and depends on your reciprocation. it’s the opposite of eldritch horror, it’s eldritch comfort.
