Week 12
1.     Boswell Public Schools, in Boswell, Oklahoma, where I work part-time has implemented several new technology practices over the past several years. I can be assigned anywhere from kindergarten to high school on any given day, so I see how technology is utilized on all levels. A few years ago, our school started giving our 7th-grade class a Google Chromebook. Then, the next year they’d buy the next group a set. The idea being, that eventually all grades, from 7th up would have their own Chromebook to do assignments on, check grades and do research. In our elementary school, each class uses an iPad or our computer lab, at least once a day. The schools aim is to make sure that while learning their curriculum, that they have the basic tools to operate technology in everyday life.
2.     I think that text alerts are the best option for reaching students with limited access to technology. The main reason is that a lot of the tips and tricks can be utilized at a school where most students have access to technology of some form. I think that not only using these tools as a teacher but as a student can help engage students in the classroom. Too often, I think that technology is used as a last resort when it should be the first measure to get students interested and engaged in a lesson.

Website Evaluations
https://sheg.stanford.edu/history-lessons
The Stanford History Education group offers this great website as a tool for social studies or history teachers to use in their classroom.  It uses pictures and documents as ways to focus on a singular issue or question within a lesson. Another great thing about it is that it is adaptable to common core and other state and federal standards!
http://teachingamericanhistory.org/teacher-resources/lesson-plans/neh/
This is another great website for teachers. It provides lesson plans that include guide questions, objectives, activities, and assessments, among other materials for each lesson. It also offers great media resources such as important documents, pictures, paintings, and videos to incorporate into your lesson!
http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/era.cfm?eraID=7&smtID=6
This website is great because it can be used on a smartboard! It is highly interactive and offers a lot of great tools for teachers and students! It offers important documents, pictures, videos, and even music to incorporate into a lesson! It would be especially useful in an elementary school classroom!
https://www.google.com/earth/
It may seem like I’m using Google Earth just to fill a spot on my list. But, it is a great tool to use for social studies. It can be used to look at literally anywhere in the world. It offers 3-D views of famous cities and locations. And best of all, it can be used on a smartboard!
https://bensguide.gpo.gov/
This is a great website, geared mainly towards elementary classes. It is very interactive, even on a smartboard. It includes games, short and simple articles, and interactive documents. This would be great for an elementary social studies class!
