if you're cringing at the genre conventions of the genre you are writing in then why the hell are you writing in it. either have something substantial to say about those conventions or shut the hell up! i will not cringe alongside you at superhero powers and spaceship battles and big eldritch worms and bone magic. i came to this story to SEE that shit and I don't appreciate it when an author tries to pretend they're above the very things they're selling themselves on

Out of curiosity and also guilt over my own coffee intake. I wanna ask:
Now I'm not talking about when you're studying and so you drink 3x the usual amount or something like that. This isn't me asking what your record is. I'm talking about the most basic, average day, how many coffees you drink?

taught my last classes of the semester today (the exam's on monday) (i am teaching theory year 2 so this is most people's last required semester of that) (i taught theory year 1 last year so i have had a few students their whole time taking core classes).
it's wild that i have students who got here not knowing how to write 12tet major/minor scales and will be walking out identifying aug6 chords and neapolitans in a progression AND/OR who got here not knowing how to guess tonic in a recording by ear and will be walking out describing an entire song form and its subsections by ear AND/OR who got here having never written about music ever and will be walking out with an analysis paper w/in-text citations in hand. i mean theory classes are always weird bc they're skills classes whose skills nobody is going to directly test you on in 50 minutes in the real world, and that have varying levels of relevance/irrelevance for: program notes writing, teaching, learning new music, being an academic, so on & so forth. there's an inherent goofiness to them. and as the person who didn't design any of the coursework (ie: grad student) whose job vis a vis the head prof is to be the uh... friendlier masc-er clone with more office hours and weirder pop culture references who will go to bat for the "annoying" vocalists and bored jazz majors and class retakers... i do find some of the Course Content especially goofy this year. but i have some extremely stubborn and talented students and the way they have pulled through Despite the goofiness is pretty incredible! i'm super proud of them

basically, i think the general rule of thumb is: if someone REALLY wants the blood that’s inside of your body, and they’re like… a vampire, or a dracula, or some sort of mansquito, then that’s probably okay. a dracula and a mansquito are made for removing things like blood and swords from inside your body. that’s basically fine.
if something wants to get at your blood, and they’re, say, some kind of murdersaurus, or maybe a really big frog, that’s where the problems start to arise. a really frog is not made for removing blood, and your blood knows this, which is why it is so vehement about wanting to stay IN your body instead of coming out.
unfortunately this will not deter a really big frog, because a really big frog is full of things like prizes, and value, and quite a lot of hatred, and it would REALLY rather like to replace any and all of those things with your blood, and basically by any means possible.

personally i think that trying to dig into trans women's blogs so you can put together a fucking leviathan of a document containing private info or outright lies speculation about their sex lives and connections, whether supposedly in an attempt to "prove they like bad stuff 😡" or not, is just very straightforwardly more of a sexually predatory act than like. reblogging from somebody who reblogged from someone who follows someone who reblogged from someone who liked a post from someone who reblogged from someone who ate at KNOWN PEDOPHILE SANDWICH RESTAURANT Subway™
