My parents made mistakes raising me. It started when I was almost a teenager. They were very strict and I was already reserved and it didn't even cross my mind to just not follow their rules. They thought they were shaping a serious kid focused on her studies, but I didn't need time to study anyway, school, the classes, were easy.

What they shaped was a lonely kid, who lacked so many experiences. I was being mean and daydreamed a lot and made fun of things normal teenagers did bc I couldn't do them. It stunted my social growth. And it's not just something you switch off. Despite making friends, they had the same experiences, and with quarantine in the mix, my university life was uneventful. It's my fault, sure, but I couldn't have known better.

And then there's my little sister. They were so much less strict with her and she did her own thing anyway. It didn't come without secrets and fights, but that's way more normal in my book. She's a freshman in uni and has a big friendgroup along with her best friend of years and they just... do stuff. Nerdy stuff, too, but she has people to hang out with and not just be stiff around them when they come to her place until 5 years later when she realises "oh". She liked this guy and they got together and my mom for some reason had been telling her not to get a boyfriend bc studies which is absurd. So she just doesnt tell anyone about him.

I'm happy for her, and then I get just a little sad because I wish I had it, too. I don't think my parents understand how wrong their approach was. They're easy on me now but that's too little too late, I'm unfortunately an adult. They say they appreciate what an easy kid I was and... I dont think I would have been difficult if I had a social life. I love them so much, they're here for me because boy am I in a place I literally want to get out of, but they did hurt me and just the idea of it hurts.

what's that one thing where they asked how ripely from alien was so realistic and believable as a female character in scifi for once and they were like "well we just took the dude from the original script and made him a girl and changed nothing else. it works bc men and women are the same?" and people were like "woah no way" and then didn't learn anything from that for 20 years

On the discussion of book accurate depictions of Sherlock Holmes, one thing I really want is accurate Mycroft. In the books Sherlock is very… autistically coded. At least to me, an autistic person. And Sherlock basically states that Mycroft has more “severe” autism. Sherlock says his brother is more brilliant than he is but absolutely cannot function in society and hates social interaction so much he founded a society for the purpose of minimizing it as much as possible. In addition it’s implied he becomes overstimulated so easily he has to curate his environment to be devoid of disturbance and noise.

Give me the autistic brothers but one has it much much worse
