“Oh, yeah, that’s true. He’ll throw out anyone who says anything gross to you.”
“Exactly. Plus, I’m there a lot anyway. I helped Joe out with his taxes last year so I might as well get paid to be there.”

“ listen, if you think it’ll be better for you, i don’t have too much of a problem with it. it’s your dad you have to convince not me. he’s the overprotective one. ”
“Just...I don’t know how or when to tell him. Ever since I moved out, I don’t see him as often as you guys do.”

“ ah, so you’re fine with us spying on you while you’re at work then? ” lexie lifted an eyebrow. “ i’ll think about it. and maybe discuss it with your dad. ”
“It’s not like I’ll be doing anything inappropriate so yes, I am. Please mom, I need this job.”

“Oh, good idea. Where are you gonna work once you quit?”
“I’m hoping Joe’s. I’m talking to my mom about it so that when my dad doesn’t have a heart attack when he sees me working there.”

“ there are still other places to work besides in a bar. ” lexie reasoned, even if carlie had sound reason for leaving the diner she needed more sound reason to warrant working in a bar.
“I talked to Joe. He said he’ll keep the creeps away, plus you can dad are there sometimes anyway and if not you, another doctor that’s friends with you. Or an intern. Actually you should be all for it at this point, mom.

He couldn’t help the smile that pulled at the corners of his lips, but he tried to hide it with his hot chocolate, taking a sip and then realizing it was still way too hot to drink. He set it down, clearing his throat. “You didn’t tell me you were psychic.” Marcus teased. It was well known that he spent way too much time at the studio, teaching, dancing, and just hanging out. “You know those kids are really passionate, sometimes they just beg me to have class go long.”
Carlie chuckled as she leaned forward in her chair, elbows resting on the table as she looked at him. “Not psychic, I just know how much you love that place.” Many a time, she’d been coming home from a late shift at work and popped her head in on him dancing. “If I remember correctly, you used to be that kid in dance class.” she said, smiling at the man across from her. She had only been in his class for a year, but the way he got excited about dance was amazing. And the way he moved was just breathtaking. Seeing him dance always made her want to, but she also knew she was no where near as good as him.”

His eyes were drawn by the familiar voice to the corner, a soft smile forming on his lips. “Oh, you know, just a bit.” Marcus proceeded to wring a bit of water out of his shirt, which earned him a dirty look from the girl behind the counter. As a way of apologizing, he ordered a large hot chocolate to warm himself back up. With his drink in hand, he made his way to Carlie’s table. “Mind if I join you?”
The blonde chuckled as he wrung his shirt out on the floor, as well as at the glare that the barista had given him. While he got his hot chocolate, she had marked her place in her book and set it in her bag once more. “Not at all.” She gestured to the seat across from her, taking a sip of her frozen drink before speaking again. “Let me guess: the bag, the clothes. I’m gonna take a wild guess and say you were at the studio?”

Marcus locked the studio, having been the last to teach a class this afternoon, and made his way down the sidewalk. If he could help it, he liked to walk, as it was relaxing as well as a good workout. However, today, not a block down the street, the sky opened and it began to rain. “Oh come on…” He really should have expected it. pulling his bag over his head, he ducked into the nearest establishment, a little cafe that wasn’t terribly busy. He pushed his fingers through his wet hair, wondering if it would pass soon or if he should call someone for a ride.
Carlie had finally had it. Being oggled by guy at the diner wasn’t worth the 10 dollars in tips she got to take home at the end of the night, especially when her manager was just as sleazy. She tossed her apron over the counter at the man, flipping him off and grabbing her bag on the way out. She walked down the street to a cafe, ordering a frozen hot chocolate and sitting in the corner by the door, pulling out a book and beginning to read. She did look up when the door bell jingled, seeing Marcus and smiling over at him. “Well, you look a little wet.” she joked.

lexie furrowed her eyebrows, “ i’m sorry i don’t know if i heard you correctly. you want to - what? exactly? ”
“I wanna work at Joe’s. Let’s face it mom, the diner sucks. I’ve got guys grabbing at me and the pay sucks. But I don’t think dad will go for it.”
