Anti-communist group says it is planning Charlotte torch march, rally in December
An anti-communist group that describes its mission as defending communities against “leftist terrorists and rioters” said it plans to hold a torch march and rally in uptown Charlotte on Dec. 28.
Anticom is encouraging its members to take their “torches, guns, armor, gear and flags” to Charlotte. “Stay nonviolent, and we’ll have a great time,” Anticom said in its announcement on Facebook and Twitter.
It was not immediately clear why the group wants to march in Charlotte; a group spokesman could not be reached for comment.
Speakers at the “March Against Communism” are set to include Richard Spencer, co-editor of AltRight.com, who retweeted the Charlotte announcement to his 74,000 followers on Thursday, and someone with Vanguard America, an organzation that the Anti-Defamation League described as a white supremacist group.
Spencer organized a torch march in Charlottesville, Va., on Aug. 11, according to multiple media reports. That march involving white nationalists and white supremacists turned deadly the next day when a man drove into a crowd protesting white supremacy. A woman died and many others were hurt. Two police officers also died when their helicopter crashed. .
After Spencer and others address the Charlotte gathering at Marshall Park, Anticom said it plans to peacefully march through uptown as night falls.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokesman Rob Tufano said Friday night that he was unable to confirm until Monday whether the group has a permit for the march and rally.

It has a fun name, Mango’s Tropical Cafe, and the location sounds like a winner, too. Maybe it is time to enjoy dinner or lunch cafe style in a really popular establishment.
The Clevelander is another popular establishment that is found on Ocean Drive. You know that Ocean Drive is going to be home for many great restaurants. You’ve got wings, fries, pizza, drinks, music and a great atmosphere awaiting you. You can tell as well that this place is going to have an oceanfront bar type of vibe. It’s a great restaurant though, and that type of atmosphere is going to of course be quite common close to the ocean.
How about a place called Naked Taco? It is certainly going to get people’s attention. It is a really cool place that serves up Mexican cuisine. It is found on Collins Avenue, and two interesting menu highlights include Key West shrimp and queso fundido. One reviewer says that this restaurant has a hotel attached to it, Dream Hotel. All of the mentioned restaurants sound like cool places to go. If you are driving around Miami Beach enjoying the scene and looking for a place to go, be sure that you give these four top restaurants another look.

9,000 sites without power early Tuesday in Charlotte area due to Irma’s winds
As of 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, more than 9,000 Charlotte area residents were without power. It is unclear what time the power is expected to be restored. You can check Duke Energy’s outage map by clicking here.
The power outages, which are spread across Mecklenburg County, were expected to make the morning commute treacherous in the city. Streets littered with leaves and branches, and there are reports of trees blocking some roads, including one at the intersection of Commonwealth and Waterman avenues.
Reports of fallen trees are spread across the region, with many of them falling on power lines.
Across the Carolinas, more than 270,000 Carolinians lost power Monday. Wind gusts of more than 50 mph were reported in South Carolina.

Prince William and Kate warned over Princess Charlotte experiencing middle child syndrome
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge should look out for Princess Charlotte experiencing middle child syndrome after welcoming their new baby, a parenting expert has said.
As William and Kate announced they are expecting another addition to the family, Sue Atkins offered advice on how the Duke and Duchess should adjust to having three offspring.
Atkins, author of Parenting Made Easy: How To Raise Happy Children, said having a third child was more of a challenge but also a time of great excitement.
"It’s more tiring because it’s more demanding but it’s also joyous," she suggested, adding: "It’s nice because (the children) have got each other as company, but sometimes you can get a bit of sibling rivalry going on."
William and Kate will have to be aware of how their second child Charlotte copes with losing her place as the youngest as she becomes the middle child, Atkins said.
"The first one is the eldest and the youngest gets away with murder – the middle child sometimes struggles to find their feet. You can be mindful of that – they can get lost a bit. They are sometimes the children that can disappear a bit when your time is taken up with the baby."
Atkins also suggested William and Kate should make sure they take the time to stop and do simple things one on one with Prince George, Charlotte and their new sibling.
"No matter how many children you’ve got, if you can, find a natural space to spend quality time with each one.
"People say ‘we’re so busy’ but then this is important stuff – to fill your child’s emotional well-being and self-esteem up," the parenting guru said.
"Make sure each child, if you’ve got three, feels that they are valued for what they offer and that you’re not trying to make them something that they’re not, they’re not competing with each other, they are who they are and you love them just the way they are."
She added: "It can be reading a story or playing a bit of Play-Doh. It doesn’t have to be climbing Kilimanjaro – it can fit in with your normal day.
"Sometimes just sitting down beside a child and watching TV while eating popcorn is a wonderful thing or sitting with them while they’re doing some colouring.
"Stop what you’re doing sometimes. When you have three, you have got a lot going on – it’s about stopping and spending time doing simple things and just ordinary things with children and remembering that you’re building memories that last a lifetime."
Sue Atkins’ top tips for looking after three children:
1. Relax
2. Focus on the positives
3. Praise and reward – Praise your children for doing something right rather than looking at what they’re doing wrong.
4. Be clear on what your rules are – Set boundaries right from the beginning about how the children should treat one another.
5. Time – Make time for each child
6. Eat together – Sit down for a family meal together even if it is just once a week – but don’t worry about making them eat broccoli – have a laugh, a chat and share your day with them.

Charlotte Has A Housing Crisis
The Queen City, the largest in North Carolina, has a housing crisis. Mecklenburg County is home to a million people, having grown for decades. However, so have the suburbs, be it Gastonia to the west, Rock Hill to the south, or Concord and Kannapolis to the east. With a lake to the north, and Pineville and Matthews having eaten up what little land was available, there’s just not a lot places left to build.
That’s made the home market very tight. Any homeowners thinking about selling aren’t doing so because they’re afraid of selling their home before they can possibly buy one in a tight market, and that just restricts the home market further.
There are many apartment buildings going up, but even with tens of thousands of units becoming available or under construction, the average monthly rent for a two bedroom unit is over a grand and climbing, getting out of range of many lower-income residents. The apartment prices are high due largely to property and labor costs.
In order to find a place to build a high rise, something else has to be bought and torn down. Also, many who fled the construction industry in the last recession never returned to the sector, which has also been hit by retirements that haven’t been replaced by younger workers. The labor supply is tightened again by the fact that local demolition businesses also rely on much of the same labor, and they’re being used to get things out of the way to build up the new.
The growing disparity between rich and poor and how they can live is of concern to the city council, especially in the wake of violent protests and poor race relations in 2016. To date, there’s not much they’ve been able to do about it.

Charlotte School of Law bilked $285 million from taxpayers, former faculty member says
A lawsuit filed by a former professor of Charlotte School of Law accuses the failed school and its corporate owner of defrauding taxpayers out of $285 million by admitting hundreds of unqualified students, then manipulating records to keep them enrolled so the school could collect their government-backed tuition.
Barbara Bernier says the for-profit school, which closed last week, conspired with its owner, the InfiLaw System, to inflate enrollment and maximize profits. She says Charlotte Law lowered admissions and retention standards while misrepresenting both the state bar exam scores of their graduates and their success in finding jobs, according to a 2016 complaint that became public for the first time this month.
“The goal of the school has never been focused on education,” said Coleman Watson, Bernier’s Orlando, Fla.-based attorney. “The shareholder tended to be more important than the student body, and that’s why she came forward.”
Contacted by the Observer, Charlotte Law spokeswoman Victoria Taylor issued a statement that the school “will defend itself vigorously against the allegations in the complaint. Beyond that, we do not intend to comment on pending litigation.”
The school officially closed on Thursday. “We regret to announce that after months of extraordinary effort, Charlotte School of Law no longer has a path forward,” interim Dean Paul Meggett said in a Thursday statement to faculty, alumni and students. “We are heartbroken that we did not achieve the desired outcome … We are continuing to work diligently to help our remaining students find opportunities to complete their legal educations.”
Bernier’s whistle-blower lawsuit, which had been sealed at government request in the Florida federal courts, offers new details of what she describes as a culture that favored cash flow over academics, fueling Charlotte Law’s startling growth and its equally rapid collapse. And, she singles out school president Chidi Ogene and former dean Jay Conison with conspiring to defraud the government.
Her filing describes a school that pledged to “establish a benchmark of inclusive excellence” and produce “practice-ready” graduates. Instead, she says, 90 percent of students at InfiLaw’s three for-profit campuses have amassed a quarter of a million dollars in loan debt, with few landing the high-paying jobs necessary to repay the money.
Bernie filed her complaint in June 2016 under the False Claim Act in behalf of the federal government. As part of the lawsuit, Bernier asks that she receive a percentage of any damages awarded.
In an Aug. 14 filing, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Orlando said its investigation into Bernier’s allegations continue but that it would not be intervening in her case at this time.
Hundreds of current and former students already have sued Charlotte Law for fraud and other grounds. Bernier is the first of their former teachers to join them.
In 2015, while on the law faculty at Florida A&M University, she sued the school charging that she was paid less and offered fewer opportunities because she was a woman.

Watson described Bernie as “someone who is not only keenly aware of her legal rights but also can recognize a potential violation of the law.”
N.C. Attorney General Josh Stein, whose office has launched its own consumer-fraud investigation into Charlotte Law, says his staff will be following Bernier’s case to learn more about how the school treated its students.
“We want to make sure that the promises the school made were truthful,” Stein said. “Too many folks haven’t gotten what they expected to get from their legal educations, and it has cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
‘Harm to its reputation’
Charlotte Law had 1,600 students as recently as 2013, making it by far the largest law school in the state. At its closing, and after a year in which it was put on probation by the American Bar Assocation and expelled from the federal student-loan program, enrollment had fallen to under 100.
Earlier this year, Ogene, a former general counsel for InfiLaw, said the government’s surprise decision to withhold student-loan money had come after the school had raised admissions standards and was addressing criticism of its curriculum.
Bernier taught constitutional law at the school as a tenured faculty member from 2014-16. She resigned shortly after suing the school.
Much of her complaint focuses on the steps school leaders took in 2008 to increase and maintain the flow of students despite a recession that slashed both legal jobs and law school applications. Admissions office employees were given quotas of students they had to accept to keep their jobs, the suit says.
Over a six-year period beginning in 2010, Bernier says 1,355 substandard students were enrolled, which she says led to $285 million in improper government payments to the school. Watson said the estimate is based on public documents and statistics between 2010 and 2015.
A lawsuit filed by a former faculty member of Charlotte School of Law accuses school president Chidi Ogene of conspiring to defraud the government out of student-loan money. School leaders say the allegations are untrue.

As financial pressures grew, the churn of students at Charlotte Law became more intense. Stein told the Observer that the school ranked dead last among the country’s 208 law schools in student retention.
Infilaw, which branded itself as “serving the underserved,” repeatedly targeted graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities as a revenue stream, Bernier says. In the school years of 2013 and 2014, Charlotte Law “indiscriminately admitted” an average of 45 students from Livingstone College in Salisbury. Few made it through a second semester, the lawsuit says.
To bolster the school’s sagging bar exam passing rate, school leaders identified students at risk of failing and paid them $5,000 to wait a year before taking the test. That meant their results would not be added to the first-time takers of the test, which is used to report a school’s overall mark.
At several points, school leaders reduced the grade point averages needed by students to remain in good academic standing to keep dozens of unqualified students in school who should have been disqualified, the suit says.
According to the complaint, Conison told faculty at the time that InfiLaw “could not tolerate the financial loss or the harm to its reputation.”

Workers are getting sick from the heat and Charlotte must protect them, union says
On a steamy afternoon in early July, Charlotte water department employee Charles Sifford was driving a city truck when he began to feel light-headed.
The heat index had climbed to more than 90 degrees, and Sifford says the air conditioning on his truck wasn’t working that day.
Minutes later, Sifford passed out. An ambulance rushed him to the hospital, where doctors determined he was suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion, he said.
“If I hadn’t pulled over, no telling what would have happened,” Sifford said.

UE Local 150 – a union that represents thousands of public workers in North Carolina – is campaigning to protect employees from the heat.
Like most North Carolina cities, Charlotte has no comprehensive policy to protect its workers from heat-related illnesses, union leaders say. And as Charlotte grows, its city staff has not kept pace, they contend. That has left workers facing greater workloads – and greater health risks, they say.
I wonder if city workers have kind of become the forgotten people.

Kevin O’Grady, president of the Charlotte chapter of UE Local 150, said he has heard of about 10 city workers who have suffered heat-related illnesses on the job this summer.
O’Grady says that while city officials have shown concern about the health of their workers, union leaders would like to see a more comprehensive plan to protect them from the heat.
“We’ve become an upwardly mobile city,” he said. “But I wonder if city workers have kind of become the forgotten people … If people aren’t well taken care of, it could cost the city in other ways.”
City officials did not address the Observer’s questions about Sifford’s case. Spokeswoman Jordan-Ashley Walker said in an email Tuesday that she could not release information about current and former employees, citing privacy laws.
The city also did not address the union’s claim that the city’s growth has outpaced staffing.
In an email sent to City Council members earlier this month to address the union’s concerns, the city said it takes several precautions to protect workers from the heat, including:
▪ Modifying shift schedules and work practices based on climate.
▪ Sending hourly updates on the heat index to Solid Waste Services dispatchers.
▪ Providing water, Gatorade, coolers and ice chests to workers.
But union leaders say there’s more to be done. They point to the death of Anthony Milledge.
Milledge, a 52-year-old laborer with Charlotte’s yard-waste division, worked from 6:30 a.m. to 8:40 p.m. on July 11, union leaders say. The afternoon temperature in Charlotte reached a high of 91 degrees that day, and the heat index – which accounts for both heat and humidity – rose to 96.6 degrees.
Milledge suffered a fatal heart attack less than an hour after getting home that night, union leaders say.
Walker said that Milledge’s death was “unrelated to employment with the city.”
No autopsy was conducted. But union leaders point to medical research showing that working in hot weather can strain the heart.
The state labor department, which regulates workplace safety, wasn’t notified about Milledge’s death, an agency spokesman said. But following questions from the Observer, officials for the labor department have contacted the city and have begun investigating the death, the spokesman said.
More than a dozen union members who work for the city of Charlotte met with city officials on Aug. 4 to discuss the heat-related dangers faced by city workers.
In North Carolina, government workers can join unions, but state law bans those organizations from collective bargaining.
‘The moral thing to do’
Union leaders say say they’ve seen progress since then. But they believe more can be done to protect city workers who toil outdoors.
A Charlotte resident can put thousands of pounds of yard waste on the curb, and city workers are expected to clean it up.
But Raleigh, Durham and Rocky Mount limit how much yard waste residents can set out.
Durham, for example, restricts households to filled carts that should weigh no more than 100 pounds. Failure to follow the rules, the city says, can pose added risks to workers.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends longer rest periods as temperatures rise. That’s what the Durham water department does.
“The city (of Charlotte) is absolutely not following that,” says Dante Strobino, a statewide field organizer for UE Local 150.
There is no statewide standard dictating how employers must protect workers from the heat. But the state labor and health departments both have campaigns to educate workers about the dangers of working outdoors in the summer.
Union leaders and the Mecklenburg County chapter of the NAACP are planning a forum on Tuesday night to call attention to the threats that the heat poses to city workers – and to push for more protections. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m., at Little Rock Zion Church, on 400 N. McDowell Street.
“Workers deserve to work in healthy and safe conditions,” said Nathanette Mayo, President of UE Local 150. “If you have healthy workers, they can contribute more to the city and the community. And it’s just the moral thing to do.”

Charlotte Crosby confirms she HASN’T split from Stephen Bear, actually
UPDATE: Charlotte’s now taken to Snapchat AGAIN to reveal she hasn’t split from Bear, actually.
Posting a follow-up video, Charlotte said: "So I would like to kind of explain and apologise for my behaviour last night.
"The top and bottom of it is I was a massive dick – a massive drunk dick – who decided to go on Snapchat and every other social media to tell nearly six million people a load of shit.
"Obviously no relationship is perfect, you always have the ups and downs, but I feel like I just did what any other girl does when they see red. And I am sorry for that."
Here’s what originally happened:
Former Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby has confirmed her romance with fellow reality star Stephen Bear is over.
In a shock tweet, which has now been deleted from her account, Charlotte wrote, ‘Guttered that me and Stephen had to separate but I tried my hardest and it obvs wasn’t good enough’ [sic].
Just a few moments before the message on Twitter, Charlotte broke down in the back of a car during a Snapchat video to her followers.
The video, which appeared on Charlotte’s story, showed the 27-year-old partying with Love Island stars Amber Davies, Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood at an ITV2 party before admitting her true feelings about Bear.
Holding her phone to film herself, she said, "I’m obviously really gutted and I love Stephen more than anything in the world but I don’t actually think I’m what Stephen wants right now so I can’t carry on trying to fight through a relationship when someone else isn’t really fighting as hard.
"Everyone might think they know my life but they don’t know the half of it. There’s a lot of things that people just don’t know."
Visibly getting upset, Charlotte continued, "I love Stephen so much but when someone is so selfish to always put themselves first not even care about the little things that you ask them to do that are so important to you it just makes you question whether they care at all.
"I’ve been so upset today and I’ve been so upset for a little while and I wish I could tell yous why but I just don’t think he cares as much as I do."
It’s unclear if the pair have worked out their differences as Charlotte has now deleted her tweet and Snapchats.
Bear, who won Celebrity Big Brother back in 2016, has remained silent about the situation.
The break-up will come as a shock to fans as Charlotte and Bear’s relationship seemed to he going from strength to strength.
Not only have the pair recently moved in together, they have their own clothing brand and also host popular MTV show Just Tattoo Us together.
Since going official last year, the couple haven’t been shy in expressing their love for each other, both posting a number of shots together on their social media accounts.
They also appeared on an episode of Loose Women back in July where they were discussing marriage and kids with the panel.
After deleting her tweet, Charlotte is yet to discuss the apparent break-up further.

4 reasons Charlotte should welcome PGA Championship back with open arms
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The PGA Championship has yet to crown a winner at Quail Hollow but officials are already talking about a return to the Queen City.
PGA of America CEO Pete Bevacqua told the Associated Press that, "it’s 100 percent in our plans to bring the PGA Championship back to Quail Hollow."
This vote of confidence from PGA executives is refreshing for North Carolinians to hear, considering a little over a year ago, the NBA decided to move the 2017 NBA All-Star Game and the NCAA moved the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament from Greensboro to Greenville, S.C., both due to the controversy surrounding House Bill 2.
With the reported success in ticket sales and the high levels of excitement being generated throughout the Queen City, Charlotte is now in a powerful position where the city may be able to welcome the PGA Championship once again.
On top of that, when you also consider the economic impact and our fans’ ability to handle any type of weather, the Queen City has a very strong case in being a worthy tournament host for years to come.
Months before the tournament even began, the PGA of America announced on its website that there were signs of high demands for the 2017 PGA Championship tickets. The Charlotte Observer also reported that tickets to the tournament were sold out for months.
Inside Quail Hollow, its giant, 43,000 square-foot pro shop was a major hit among fans. Not only did the store’s break its previous grand opening sales record, the rainy and wet conditions during the first couple days of the tournament helped draw a lot of fans into the indoor pro shop. More fans buying umbrellas and jackets at the pro shop meant more dough for the PGA.
With the success in ticket sales and merchandise considered, PGA officials should never worry about generating enough revenue in Charlotte.
While the Quail Hollow is no Red Carpet, but the course drew in some of the biggest stars. On Tuesday, pictures of pop star Justin Bieber was all over Facebook Tuesday. Two days later, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was among the VIPs taking in the early rounds of the PGA Championship.
While the commotion on social media came as expected, fans seemed to have embraced the extra attention and energy being added to the city. One grandmother at Quail Hollow candidly told NBC Charlotte that seeing Bieber at the course wound up being the highlight of her day.
As Charlotte brought in visitors from all over the world, nobody was happier to welcome these folks to the Queen City than the local businesses.
"It’s going to be the biggest week Charlotte has seen for retail and restaurants," J.Sam Daniels prior to the start of PGA Championship.
Daniels, who owns J. Sam’s in SouthPark, started ordering extra beer and wine last week to get ready for this year’s crowds.
"Typically with the Wells Fargo, it’s all just locals but for PGA we have people coming from all over the world," Daniels said.
Bob Morgan, the President of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce told NBC Charlotte that the tournament is worth an estimated $100 million to the city and its surrounding areas.
"You can’t buy this kind of positive exposure," Morgan said.
It’s been a roller coaster of weather at the PGA Championship throughout the week. But from rain to humidity, the fans have weathered it all.
From packing umbrellas to staying hydrated, the fans did their part to make sure nothing would prevent them from watching Charlotte’s first major championship.
"I mean this is a once in a lifetime chance so I’ll probably just wait it out with the raincoat," one fan told NBC Charlotte.
The fan’s commitment should make the PGA players and officials both smile and appreciate when it’s all said and done.
As we wait for this year’s winner of the PGA Championship, one thing we know for certain is that our city and Quail Hollow were both able to win over the executives at the PGA of America. Given the successes that came from this year’s tournament and what it has meant to our city, it only seems right that we welcome the PGA back to Charlotte with open arms.

Records: Charlotte missed out on 500 high-paying tech jobs
Before the Indian technology consulting firm Infosys decided on Wake County as a site for a major U.S. expansion, the company considered adding as many as 500 high-paying jobs in Charlotte.
Gov. Roy Cooper met with Infosys executives earlier this spring at the executive mansion in Raleigh to learn about the firm’s growth plans in North Carolina, according to a May agenda the Observer acquired through a public records request.
“Currently, Infosys is exploring location options in either Wake County or Mecklenburg County. The most recent scenario now has the company considering both communities. The plan would be to create approximately 2/3 of the jobs in the Triangle and the remaining 1/3 in Charlotte,” the agenda read.
The purpose of the meeting was threefold, according to the agenda: For Cooper to “personally endorse the project and lend his assistance to overcome any upcoming issues,” to communicate North Carolina’s ability to attract talent, its strong work force, livability and low cost of doing business, and support Infosys’s efforts in locating their business in North Carolina.
Ultimately, Infosys decided to locate all 2,000 of the new jobs in Wake County, one of four planned innovation and technology hubs in the United States. The Wake County hub, the location of which has not yet been selected, will focus on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, big data and cloud applications, the Raleigh News & Observer reported.
In exchange for a $25 million incentives package, the company says it plans to hire up to 500 American workers at the new office by the end of 2018. Job functions include software developers, analysts and digital architects – positions that pay $72,146 on average.
It is unclear why Infosys decided against Charlotte – a representative from the company could not be reached for additional comment, and the records provided no explanation.
According to the meeting agenda, the North Carolina expansion marks a “cultural change” for Infosys, which is known for hiring Indian engineers on H-1B visas and outsourcing work to U.S. businesses, such as IBM and Charlotte-based Bank of America.
“By creating these ‘regional innovation hubs’ they feel that this will lead to a more unified corporate culture, a better cross pollination of ideas, and ultimately better customer service,” the agenda read.
Infosys employs more than 200,000 around the world and about 27,000 in the United States, including 1,138 in Raleigh, Charlotte and elsewhere in North Carolina. The Raleigh News & Observer contributed.

Ever wondered why Prince George and Princess Charlotte always seem to be happy and smiling while in public?
Despite the occasional wobble, the two young royals rarely seem to fuss or throw tantrums while out with their mum and dad.
The reason George, aged four, and two-year-old Charlotte are usually on their best behavior is apparently all down to a classic parenting technique…
How does Kate Middleton keep George and Charlotte from throwing a strop while they’re out doing their royal duties?
The mum-of-two is said to have adapted a technique favoured by parents the world over – she bribes them with chocolate.
A source told Heat magazine that Kate usually keeps a stash of chocolate nearby to prevent meltdowns during public engagements.
They said: ‘Kate always has a selection of chocolates with her to use for emergencies.’
‘If she sees a tantrum on the way, the chocolate comes out, and if the children then behave themselves, they are rewarded.’
It seems bribing children with sweets really works (who knew), as George and Charlotte rarely put a foot out of line, as made evident by their recent trip to Poland.
Despite the two young royals appearing like little angels in public, Prince William has revealed they get up to all sorts of trouble at home.
Speaking about their mischief making, he previously said while attending a rugby match: ‘No broken bones yet, but their trying.’
‘ They’re running around, pushing things, jumping. Please tell me it gets easier!’ the prince joked.
It seems Kate and Wills use the same parenting tricks as the rest of us!

Yet another Charlotte bank is being swallowed up
Carolina Premier Bank said Friday it is being acquired by Select Bancorp, becoming the latest Charlotte-based bank to be swallowed up this year.

Dunn-based Select is expected to acquire the community bank in an approximately $40 million deal set to close in the fourth quarter. The boards of both companies have already approved the transaction, which still requires regulatory and shareholder approvals.
Carolina Premier has four locations: one in Charlotte and three in Rock Hill, Blacksburg and Six Mile, S.C.

Will Charlotte Get A Major League Soccer Team?
Charlotte, North Carolina is nicknamed the Queen City given its historical naming after a female member of German royalty. What was once the intersection of two Native American trading paths has turned into one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation.
Explosive growth dominated Mecklenburg County in the 1970s and 1980s, culminating in the city landing an NBA franchise of the Charlotte Hornets in the late ’80s. The NBA is still in Charlotte, and the NFL has joined the community too with the Carolina Panthers. NASCAR has a strong presence here, and baseball and hockey are represented at a minor league level.
An investment group now wants to build a stadium to land one of the expansion Major League Soccer franchises expected to be rewarded to a handful of cities. While there’s moderate interest and support from the Charlotte city council, there’s also stiff competition from the state capital of Raleigh. The capital is a smaller city by itself, but it is part of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill ‘Triangle’ area that as a metropolitan region is just as large as the Charlotte area. In fact, the Triangle area already landed a major league NHL team.
At the time of writing, Raleigh’s city government was offering more land and money for a Major League Soccer franchise to have a stadium. Both cities have supporters that know landing such a franchise would mean tapping into the spending power of the enthusiastic fan base of the nation’s fastest-growing sport.
Charlotte’s government is considering helping out their local investment group create a proposal for a stadium, but there is always public concern about tax dollars being used to fund another athletic stadium when the investment group claiming to need financial assistance includes NASCAR millionaires with very deep pockets of their own.

Car slams into southeast Charlotte town home, injures mother and children
A mother and her two children were taken to the hospital as a precaution after an SUV plowed into their townhome in southeast Charlotte Monday morning.
It happened around 6:29 a.m. at the Arcadian Village townhomes on Cedars E Court.
The property manager told Charlotte-Mecklenburg police she accelerated while making a U-turn and slammed into the unit, where the mother and children, ages 4 and 7, were sleeping downstairs.
“My husband called me and said a car just rammed into our house,” said Shantay Sowell, recalling a phone call she received from family as she pulled into work.
Sowell said her children and grandchildren were asleep in the house when the car came crashing into the kitchen. She said one of her grandchildren was thrown from a recliner.
"When the car came through the kitchen he got knocked out of the recliner," said Sowell. “My daughter panicked, went upstairs and opened the windows cause she said she smelled smoke and got all the kids out of the house.”
Four children and one woman were inside the home in total according to Sowell. Her other two children were asleep upstairs.
“It could have been worse,” said Sowell. “I’m imagining what could have happened… My grandson was in a recliner. If that wall wouldn’t have been there my grandson would have been under her car… An angel came and pushed him out of the recliner.”

Big Brother’s Charlotte finally gets some screen time as she rumbles Chanelle
You couldn’t really be blamed if you’d forgotten there was someone called Charlotte living in the Big Brother house.
After all, she’s done absolutely nothing of consequence, stayed out of the house’s biggest rows and was basically an afterthought in last week’s eviction of Joe Quaranta.
However, Tuesday’s highlight show largely became The Charlotte Show as she had her first big house blow-out and was brought to tears by this week’s temptation-themed shopping task.
All throughout the week, the housemates have faced either reuniting with loved ones from the outside world or resisting to help win the group a luxury shopping budget.
Only Andrew showed enough willpower to turn down a letter from home, meaning the housemates were running dangerously close to failing the task. This left Charlotte more than a bit concerned.
"I think people who have only been here for a couple of weeks should sacrifice theirs," a tearful Charlotte ranted in the Diary Room. "I’ll be fuming if I don’t hear from my family or friends! Sue says she’s not bothered, she’s been here for 10 days so whatever."
But viewers had one major objection to her line of thinking:
Charlotte it’s not your place to tell anyone how long they can miss their loved ones for. Wipe your damn crocodile tears. #bbuk
