All I See is You
The view screen fizzles out to static before the suit fails altogether, permitting a cold silence to filter in. Leaving him in the discomfort of his ragged respires, the quickened beats of his heart, and the unrelenting, mild ringing in his ears.
Time seemingly slows as he observes the missile make a beeline for the Chitauri mothership at an agonizingly sluggish pace. Allowing him a chance to admire the splashes of blue and pinpricks of stars juxtaposed the artificial threat looming ahead. The color vaguely reminding him of Steve’s eyes—triggering a memory of their first morning together.
Tony groggily stirs to find Steve at his easel. A speckled mess of paint decorating the surface of Tony’s workstation and most of Steve’s forearms. His brows furrowed and lips pressed tautly in concentration.
“Go back to sleep for a little while,” Steve gently insists.
Tony stretches languidly, unconcerned by the marginal slip of the blanket at his exposed waist. “What do I get if I do?”
Lips quirking, Steve pins him with a heated look. “Something special.”
What little air remains in his suit runs out quickly. Tony’s pulse spiking in panic as he attempts to inhale, but finds nothing to fill his lungs.
The stars pale in comparison.
Blinded by a white flash, Tony feels gravity begin to take hold. And closes his eyes in acceptance of his fate, hoping Steve’s memory will serve as company in his last moments.
“Penny for your thoughts.”
“I’m tired of wasting time.” Steve reaches across the table to trace Tony’s ring finger. “What if I asked to marry you—today?” His eyes flick up, hopeful. “What would you say?”
Darkness presses in, spiriting Tony away into the fathomless void. Allowing him one final thought before it swallows him whole.
I would say yes.

At long last
For @capgotback, set sometime post-Endgame.
The rays of the morning sun fall through the blinds, a zebra pattern of warm orange on Tony’s back. He’s still asleep, face turned towards Steve. In the diffuse light, the scars on his face and neck disappear into the skin around it, a faint difference in reflection the only clue that they’re there at all.
It’s rare to see Tony so still. His back rises and falls with his breaths, but other than that, he is the picture of relaxation. It could seem unnatural, so different from Tony’s usual MO, full of life and movement always and ever. And it’s certainly not usual. But Steve has seen more of Tony than most, and he knows that this stillness is simply another facet of Tony’s complex and multiple prism of a life. When he feels safe, when all is well in his world, Tony will let himself slow down, will bask in the moment like a lion after a meal.
Steve has had the privilege to see those moments of calm for a few years now, and he likes to think that he’s been helping to make those moments come more often.
They’re building the rest of their lives, together. Steve will make sure that Tony gets the rest he’s more than earned.
Outside, a bird flies by, its shadow silently flitting across the panes of Tony’s back. As if in reaction, Tony sighs once, shifting his whole body closer to Steve. He’ll wake up soon. They have nothing planned for the day. Maybe they can eat in bed, go for a walk later in the day. Maybe Steve can entice Tony in a lazy bout of love-making. He wants all of Tony. Watching him has whet his appetite, he wants to touch him, to feel him, to welcome him so deep inside of him they’ll be one. He wants to grab Tony and never let go. He won’t ever let go.
Vast as an ocean, deep as space, Steve’s love expands ever further. He puts a hand on Tony’s cheek and smiles.
A fill for the @stevetonygames, team Future, square: Intimacy, challenge: Fairy Godmother
