Anime ALWAYS making Japanese people the victims, the “othered” or oppressed ones of the story. It’s very frustrating because Japan is capable of being racist and xenophobic asf

Not gonna lie; I think it’s kind of hypocritical for media (especially Japanese) that fetishizes youth and refuses to make main characters any older than like 15 to be making commentaries with characters like Akaza, Orochimaru, and Togoro, telling us that growing old is a natural part of life and is worthwhile and not something you should run away from. (I like all of these anime, btw)
It’s like an unwritten rule that anime characters who matter at all have to be middle school students or if we’re lucky high school students. Even if the main character looks easily 20, is very physically developed, and it wouldn’t get in the way of the story at all to make them older, they are constantly aged down to as young as possible (Nezuko for example, is NOT fucking 12. I don’t even care what the creator says her canon age is, that is absolutely ridiculous. She looked 18 since episode 1 before becoming a demon).
Anime main characters don’t age past high school, and it’s like if they did get past that very small window of life they would be pushed to the side and become an NPC that creeps on the younger generation until they expire too. And then the person who wants that youth and wants to stay relevant becomes the bad guy for it?
More on this later.
