Taken maps and colourful experimental pieces and chopped them up to create a small weave which I have photographed in Glasgow over looking a motorway.
This is to show a sense of direction and how paths can be crossed and intertwined.
Also explores a sense of lost as looking at the piece you can’t directly see where your going and you can no longer follow the map. The map used is also cut up of Gigha so therefore is not practice for getting around glasgow.

Printed off maps from Gigha and Glasgow and looking at safety where I feel safe. Blue represents where I feel unsafe. For example in Glasgow I feel most scared walking through central station as a few times I’ve passed I’ve witnessed accidents which have been quite frightening. Alothough I’ve never experienced things like that around other parts of Glasgow. This is where I’ve put the yellow wire to show I’m more comfortable. I’m not sure why I’m so scared of central. I live so near it and take a longer route just so I don’t need to go through it.
Then exploring my map of Gigha. Gigha only has a single track road and 100 people on it so you know everyone. Although there is no streetlamps or police there is no where else I feel safer.
Have tried to draw with this wire and use colour to show emotions and safety.

Would love to take some of the prints from the workshop and develop them into digital drawings or a video.
Also plan to cut and layer the prints to make them look more map like.
I also think they look very maze like which I would quite like to look into. A maze can trap you in but also lead you to freedom which is very much how I feel towards Gigha.
Such a small island can make you to feel trapped and alone and away from the real world but when you finall are allowed or can get off you feel free which contrasts my two lives. (Gigha vs Glasgow)

Looking at colour and behaviours and how can demonstrate through shape and colour.
Looking at paper sculptures and Richard Serra who places sculptures in wide open spaces to make people change there walking behaviour, making them interact.
Paper sculpture hard to fold after being folded. Made me think of how easy it is just to fold it back the way it was. Returning to something your comfortable with and being pushed into new surroundings.
Sense of direction & comfort zone
