Hi, Hello, Welcome
My name is Morgan and I am 24 years old. I graduated from high school in 2013 and started taking pre-requisites for nursing school Spring 2014. I moved half way across the state I reside in April 2015 to try to find better opportunities for my education. Little did I know, the programs in that bigger city weren’t better than the program in my hometown (NCLEX pass rates, job placement, and just overall application process was nuts) I ended up applying to the program in my hometown Summer of 2016 and was accepted for the Fall 2016 semester. I received my acceptance letter exactly 2 weeks before school was set to start. I was really excited and shocked when I received my acceptance and with 2 weeks to quit my job, move half way across the state again, and just be ready to roll the first day of class was a lot to deal with. I wasn’t prepared in the least bit mentally with everything that was happening in my life so I ended up withdrawing at the 6 week mark. I was really disappointed in myself for withdrawing but in my heart I knew the timing wasn’t right and I wasn’t fully focused on school. It’s now been almost 3 years since I first went to nursing school and a lot has changed since then. I am now married, and have worked a few different jobs that have just led me back to thinking about nursing. My life has been so confusing since I stopped my nursing education. I just haven’t been that happy. Well, this past week I decided that it was time I go back to nursing school (if they’ll take me back). I am ready to finish what I started and earn those two special initials after my name, R.N.

Glycolysis
– the breakdown of glucose by enzymes
– releases energy and pyruvic acid
– glucose -> pyruvate
– free energy released is used to make ATP and NADH
– converts one six-carbon molecule of glucose into two three-carbon molecules of pyruvate
– occurs in the cytosol in most organisms
– EMP pathway = Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas pathway
– EMP pathway is the most common type of glycolysis
– EMP pathway has two stages      – preparatory phase = ATP is consumed      – pay-off phase = ATP is produced
