“Hm?” He hummed, distractedly, picking up the baby monitor on the way. Dylan sat it on the counter when he saw Poppy was still asleep, knowing he could easily blame her for keeping him and Emmett awake as an excuse for him being so out of it, but Rose would see right through that. “I’m not on the brink of divorce or anything like that before you ask,” he teased, halfheartedly, sitting across from her. “It’s nothing.” Dylan reached for his glass, knowing she was also going to see through that, and sighed. “Your cousin started asking questions about Jasper’s sister. Talking about her got me in my head about that night.” Dylan looked up at Rose and quickly added. “I’m okay. It’s just a lot I didn’t unpack, I guess.”

♕ — “That’s good to hear, I wasn’t worried about that.” Rose tilted her head to look over at him and waited for him to get around to explaining what was going on in his head. When he did, she had to fight back a frown. And the urge kill her cousin. She took a sip of her drink to allow herself to think of what to say next. “Well, we both know that Lily is not the most thoughtful of other’s feelings,” she said slowly. “You went through a lot, Dylan, and it probably wouldn’t hurt to unpack it a little. For your own mental stability.”

So long as he’s not being an ass this time.”

“We have another brunch date with us today,” he started when he walked over to where Rose was already sitting. “Because daddy had to go somewhere and this one screams bloody effing murder every time one of us puts her down.” Dylan nodded to the baby in his arms and rolled his eyes, because honestly, she looked way too proud of herself. He kissed the side of Rose’s head and sat across from her. “You know how we always tell new parents to not pick their babies up every time they cry? Yeah, no. Can’t do it.” He took Poppy’s coat off. “It’s not even because I feel bad for her at this point. They look almost the spitting image of each other with the exception of Rose’s hair colour and rose is quite a clever girl– she did get top marks in school– but that is where the similarities end.
