      “ don’t you have any shame, benjy fenwick? merlin! you’re worse than mulciber. kidnapping dogs is the absolute worst thing one can do. ” she declares loudly, before she lowers her voice and looks at him with mischief in her eyes. “ i’m in. ”

     “oi, don’t call me mulciber!” benjy held out an index finger to wag at her, but he was grinning, knowing fully well that she was only joking. “mate, you’re just as bad as me!” he whispered back to her. “you’re such a bad influence.”

     excited giggle leaves her as she looks upon benjy. the giggle that often only he was able to procure from her. warmth had always radiated from one greta catchlove but in the presence of benjy it was more like the sun than a glowing star. and she couldn’t help it, even if she tried. “ a dalmation, but aren’t they too big to wear a coat? i was hoping for a small corgi. those legs and that chubby body i just ––– it’s the cutest thing i have ever seen. ” 

     benjy was grinning so hard his cheeks began to hurt, but then she giggled and it faded into a gentle smile. it was as if he were snared in some form of wonderment. he caught himself however once she started speaking again, the amusement picking up again once she had finished talking. “i can knit one for them -- easy. and it’s gonna be great ‘cause it’s gonna be black, white and red -- like a kilt. i’m gonna make it as stereotypically scottish as possible, so people know it's mine. not a corgi though, i think i might tread on the wee thing by accident. you of all people know how clumsy i can be.”

     benjy offered to work more hours at the post office ever since him and ted got a dog. their budget was tight and although adopting BORK was ( and still is ) a lot of fun, they were now severely behind on paying bills and were in desperate need of more money. still benjy’s spirit was hard to dampen and even though he had been working tirelessly for the whole day, still managed an easy smile when the next costumer entered.                  “good evening, what would you like postin’ today?”

Ted flopped onto the couch beside his best friend, and watched their pup play with glee. At least one good thing happened today. “So earlier, when I went to go to Flourish and Blotts–” he began, washing down some peanuts with his beer. “Andromeda fucking Black stole the limited edition of Living with Legilimens we’d been waiting on. Then had the nerve to tell me it was’t mine.”

     benjy continued to grin as ted joined him, his gaze only averted by another surprisingly strong tug from bork. “good bork-y bork,” he said, patting the pup on the head, followed by a glance up at his best friend as if he were seeking his approval. when the other opened his mouth to talk however, benjy fell silent and his brows began to furrow like they always did when processing auditory information. “andromeda black? you didn’t argue with her, did you? and it’s okay. i’m sure flourish's isn't the only place we can get a copy.”

 “ benjy, i’ve got the most exquisite idea. why don’t we SHARE a dog? & if ted makes a fuss we can always have the dog at my place. but i will only agree to this if the dog may wear coats on rainy days. ”

     benjy always thought greta had very posh articulation. ‘exquisite’ was never an adjective that he’d think of adopting into his lexis -- but he always found that upper class accent oddly appealing nevertheless. “of course the pup’ll wear coats. but only if it’s gonna be a dalmation.”
