All my friends have talked about this already, so this isn't an original thought. But I am struck again that for all the pain about Matty of the record, the track fives are for Joe.

the way taylor memorialized directing the all too well short film in the manuscript is so beautiful and moving. it’s the first time she’s written a song directly about her work and the catharsis of telling her stories and passing them down to us. i can’t think of a more poignant way to close this album

you know I think sometimes maybe Taylor thinks we love her because she’s like a “role model” and good advice giver or something, like if you listen to dear reader, but what I think she maybe does not always remember or know is that we love her not because we think she’s perfect or a guiding light, but because she’s just like us…human!!! imperfect, contradictory, passionate, messy, hopeful, reflective, depressed, daydreamy, bitter, unsure … and the only difference between her and us is that she puts all things all we go through into music. Music that we can listen to and adopt and relate to and not feel so weird and lonely about ourselves

this is the most trite statement but i i genuinely can’t wrap my head around how she managed to do eras tour in the midst of all this

loosely speaking the first half of the album (standard edition) covers a mindset where life is a whirlwind and felt in the extremes: rabid happiness and frenzied highs, deep and all consuming anger. Overcompensating for being sad by acting like it's your birthday. You type only in all caps. This all goes in line with experiencing moods that land on the far edges of the spectrum. In the second half, those 15 songs are when you're past that stage, things are evening out, and landing closer to the middle ... and its just more reflective sadness and mourning, a more pondering state of being, quietly wondering what if's and what now's, and also being happy in a content way that is steady and measured. You're no longer screaming in all caps.

i said this the other day but i’m still thinking about it: it’s sooooo interesting to me that she’s split the album into “what it was like to go through this as Taylor Swift™️” with all the musings about external forces and what it must have looked like from the outside and fighting against public opinion and then “what it was like to go through this as taylor” with her inner turmoil and fear of what was to come and feeling broken and lost
