I should have known if I brought up wc I’d have to talk about. But it includes of a lot of issues with feral/furry designs that use feathers in hair. I don’t necessarily know why the conversation only started and stayed in the wc fandom when horse/wolf/lion feral fandoms are still doing the same thing.
Now having feathers in the design isn’t a racial attack first thing off because there’s a lot of context around what feather’s are used, the shape, and where they are placed. If the look is anything like "rave Coachella looking tribal fantasy feathers and beads" it’s probably insensitive. I’m not to sure why it has to be feathers, I honestly think the wc fandom are holding themselves back when it comes to forwarding designs in a unique way. Tail feathers are also left out in this conversation as well, one or two feathers or feathers in the shape of a birds tail are fine but bunched together feathers are leaning to close to how we have our horses wear feathers. This is in the context of the design already looking like a "medicine cat" already its bad. it’s like those yt girls wear feather head bands but animal addition.
I’ve talked about this before but silhouettes are so important, like Native American stereotypes are on the global scale you cannot escape this silhouette you just have to avoid it. There’s no "but it’s in so many other cultures" no it’s not it’s totally unique to our people that’s why people flock to it because it’s so "mysterious, sacred" whatever their weird twisted up reason is. There’s so many unique ways to break this silhouette you just gotta be more creative. And I feel like instead of being more creative and coming up with totally different ideas it’s just easier to lean on these visual native stereotypes to get across "wild mythical nature fantasy"
I could get into the horse fandom and the weird situations they’re doing over there but that’s another crazy thing. I should say because someone will ask, ostrich feathers on like show horses or knights or puss in boots style is fine not the same thing (breaking the silhouette) they’re not related.
And it comes down to understanding what you are drawing and where this imagery comes from, I’m not gonna get my feelings hurt because of your design but I’ll question why are you drawing stuff like that. You cant remove that cultural/stereotypical imagery, and if you don’t care about it then you don’t care about the history or how it looks on your character and art.

Applications Now Open For NettleClan and CreekClan!
In a forest far away from the clans, twoleg troubles are abound. This territory, consisting of a small cluster of trees and fields, was once capable of sustaining the cats who sheltered there. Although most were loners and few had families, they were content with their quiet and isolated existence. Such an existence was doomed to end, however, when the twolegs arrived with a desire to strip the area bare and lay out their own homes. With trees toppled and the ground torn up, the cats of the forest and fields were given two choices — fleeing or facing capture.
Confronted with an invasion of their home and traps that were littered around the area, friends and families alike were separated in the frantic dash for freedom. Not all those who occupied the area were fortunate enough to escape, however, and the cold press of unfeeling plastic was the only sensation left for the imprisoned strays. Loaded into cat carriers, they were taken away in the back of a twoleg truck, unaware of where their next destination might be.
One small blessing is granted when a particularly rough ride results in an escape from the kennels for these cats. Strangers for the most part, they will be forced to cooperate if they ever wish to escape the prison they are held in. Through a series of lucky events, they are fated to find freedom — but when they come to confront the new territory that they find awaiting them, they will swiftly realize that their freedom has come at a cost. What might happen as tempers flare, rivalries form, and a mismatched group is given the choice between two clans?
The roleplay for this opening will be initiated during the truck ride to the new territories. Your character will be introduced as one of the strays who has been captured and will get to participate in the escape from the truck as well as the subsequent events that will lead them to contact with the clans.
DETAILS
This round of application is open only to new potential members. Current members who are already a part of the group may not apply during this round.
In this round of applications, we are looking to accept about 15 new members in total. These accepted members will be joining either NettleClan or CreekClan. In this opening, clan choice will be left up to in-character circumstances. Though we will poll you on the application to assess the general amount of initial interest in either NettleClan or CreekClan, you will be free to have your character move between clans and may opt to have them join either clan at any point during the event. By the time the event concludes, you will have to make a final decision on which clan your character will permanently reside in.
Accepted members will join the group with the character they applied with, though mild modifications may be made upon arrival in the group.
As an extra note for this specific opening, we would like to encourage our prospective members to apply with characters who will be prone to conflict. Whether this means your character is rash and quick to anger or they are a bit cowardly and willing to follow the orders of any cat, no matter how questionable, we would love to see our fair share of troublemakers.
Not every cat has to be absolutely intolerable to get along with, of course, but keep in mind that this opening and event is one where tensions are meant to run high.
GUIDELINES
You must be at least 16 years old to apply. If you are 15 years old but close to turning 16, please message a mod to discuss approval to apply. If you are discovered to have lied about your age on your application, you will be immediately disqualified.
You must apply with a cat of at least 3 moons of age. You are welcome to apply for any age range following the minimum of 3 moons. Acceptable ages / ranks include kits, apprentices, warriors / queens, and elders.
As these characters have histories as loners, rogues, kittypets, and other outsiders, you may choose to develop a backstory for your character prior to them ending up in the clans that features elements of loner / rogue / kittypet life.
You must start your character with a name that reflects their outsider status. This means that no cat will begin with a clan name, and must earn them over time.
Please be prepared to be active! Ideally, our members will engage in roleplaying quite frequently. If you are looking for a roleplay that is slower or one that you can pop into only once per month, you should reconsider whether or not ThreeClans is the group for you. ThreeClans functions on a real life time system, which means that every day that passes in real life is equal to a day passing in the roleplay’s time. Though time may be adjusted accordingly for more intense events, and liquid time may be given to those who ask permission to complete roleplays, things are quite fast paced — we like to keep everything moving so that nothing stagnates for too long!
You must have a Discord account to join the roleplay, as that is where it is hosted!
