[ Another Resident ]

Although they both laced their words with bitter resentment, neither seemed to have the mental bandwidth to completely voice their frustrations. Hive City really took a lot of a person, huh? Even though Melia decided not to yell at the boy, the alternative wasn’t proving to be much for a step up from that…Nothing for it now, she supposed.

"Ah, so you’re a new resident, then? I can understand your irritation. I only arrived a few weeks ago myself, and, well…" She glanced down at the tar stains on her dress. Her lips pursed. "I’ve had my ups and downs."

…She really out to leave the tar alone. At this point she might as well be grilling him over his previous incompetence. He was already embittered enough, so Melia probably wasn’t helping. Although from the looks of the boy, she doubted he was much of a “sunshine and rainbows” kind of guy to begin with.

"Well…for what it’s worth, there’s a lot to enjoy in this city past this noxious area."

Melia realized her words would probably bring him small comfort, but there was little she could say that would make suddenly becoming a guinea pig for an outlandish experiment easier to swallow.

A-ha. So his suspicions were confirmed. Not that he felt particularly astute for it. Nevertheless, it was somewhat comforting that he wouldn't be the only one stuck in this giant rat cage.

The urge to roll his eyes as she once again brought the mud to attention was staggering. It was an accident, lady. He'd felt bad for the first thirty seconds, but whatever shame had been eaten away by minor irritation brought by her repetition. Thankfully for the both of them, the subject was dropped.

"Those lab coats told me there were six sectors. I didn't take any time to explore the first sector, but it did look a lot... cleaner than this place." He offered a nod before digging his hands in his pockets. "I plan on getting to my apartment first -- it'd be nice to sit down and let this absurd situation sink all the way in."

"Er, by the way." A quick clear of the throat. Finding little else to say, the brunet figured an apology would make for good conversation filler. That, and he was finally starting to cool down from his agitated state. "I'm, uh, sorry about the muck. ...Shit happens, right?"

Was that really necessary. Really.
