My final assessment chose the topic of option 4, and I used two tracks to complete this selection.
Initial idea
My idea was to create a chill rnb type of beat and the track should fit a rainy vibe and the scene that came out of my mind was a girl sitting alone in a café reading a novel while this song was playing in the background.
In terms of creative techniques
With this aim, I have used jazz guitar to play extended chords and their arpeggio with a very soft tone with ambience reverb (3.84s decay time). In order to approach the sound that I wanted, I use an eq low pass filter around 4500 Hz to make it sounds even warmer. For the drums section, I wanted the hihat pattern to sound like sea wave (fade in and out) and for the kick and snare I used a classic groove rhythm. And probably layered some keys and pad together to give unique vibe.

I have used jazz guitar, texture soundscape preset in omnisphere, Rhodes and Celeste in keyscape, rainy texture sample, drums oneshot samples that are suitable for rnb, some percussion loops and transition samples from splice.
artistic vision
Inspired by the song “Pretty” by Col3trane ft. Mahalia, I used similar drum patterns and arrangement but with my own settle changes. The drums and instrumental in this song are just so fascinating and instantly make the audience fall into the vibe.

Technical or other problems are I worried about
While I was layering different keys and pads together, I worried about this might cause phase issues and what I did to address this was using eq to cut some frequency to leave spaces for the main jazz guitar and Rhodes.
The second songs
Initial idea and artistic vision
My inspiration came from the painting "Ophelia" by the nineteenth-century English painter John Everett Millais. This is a painting depicting a character in the play Hamlet, who cannot accept Hamlet's betrayal and chooses to die after the death of her father. In the painting, her death is beautiful. Ophelia is lying in the water, surrounded by lush vegetation, and the picture shows an "abnormal" beauty. When I first saw this painting, I was attracted by the contrast presented in the picture, so the inspiration for this piece comes from this 19th-century painting.
When I first wrote this piece, I wanted to have a sad vibe. The piece can be divided into four main parts, and I tried to use a third-person perspective to describe the first part of the piece. It is quiet, lonely and desperate, just like Ophelia lying in a pool of water, and it was also my intuitive feeling when I first saw this painting. The second part is still a third perspective, but I tried to make the song a little lighter to reflect the youthful life that flows through the flowers and vegetation with the water. In addition, there is another layer of implication. I want to describe what I feel when watching the painting. "abnormal" beauty.
As the song progressed, in the third part, I began to try to bring myself into the role of Ophelia. Here I tried the first-person perspective. I want to use this paragraph to describe my short life in Ophelia’s memories. Also, I tried very light drumming to try to describe what it was like to face the world when Ophelia's life was coming to an end. At the end of the story, that is, the fourth part, calm was restored, and the third-person perspective was returned. Ophelia was still lying quietly and gracefully in the water.
In terms of creative techniques
My idea was to create an emotional track accomplished by piano, strings and drums.
With this aim, I have used piano to play 6543 chord progression because in my opinion, I believe this is one of the saddest progressions that I know. The string part was very simple laid out because I want them to be relatively settle and leave space for the main piano and vocals. After the first chorus, I introduced the cello to give more the sense of sadness and loneliness. I made the snare and rim to be quite space out by using reverb to fit into the vibe more.

I have used Cinematic LA C7 in keyscape for the main piano and Frozen Piano Dreams in Omnisphere to play the chords with low velocity (just to add more texture and width). I also used Stone Mill Tuned Noise in Omnisphere as the arp in the second chorus. All strings were from the free version of BBC Symphony Orchestra.

To reflect
Music art is a special aesthetic culture. In the creation of these two pieces and the study of music digital software this semester, I found that music art can directly reach people's hearts through a special charm. In the process of music art aesthetic experience and self-creation, my association and imagination have been greatly improved. The art of music is not only to simulate the sounds in nature, but also to arouse the audience's complex emotions in their own life experience by ordering the sounds in regular order, forming a rhythmic and aesthetically pleasing infinite free space. Creation summary:
At the beginning of the creation, I brainstormed with my classmates to sort out the inspiration, and we decided on the form of our creation in the story narration. First, we imagined a story background and used cyberpunk as the background inspiration for the story. Imagine that the plot's background is that a biological experiment goes wrong and you turn yourself into a robot. Then narrate a supernatural robot revolution from a third-person perspective. In the second step, we discussed and listed the sound sources we might need to record so that we could record together when we meet for the second time. Then we initially envisioned the content of the storytelling in five minutes of music.
When we met for the second time, we searched for sources of sound effects that could be recorded in the city and claimed the creative part that everyone was responsible for. I was mainly responsible for the first part of the "news report". My visual image for this part is a sudden news broadcast The sudden death of the CEO of a biotechnology company giant, and then the ambient sound is very noisy, and then the siren echoes. I hope to create a tense and heavy atmosphere for the whole music.
Initial Creation:
I first scoured many press releases to see how press releases are generally written, and then I created my own news content that fit the context of our story. In addition, I also searched and understood the relevant production styles of cyberpunk. Since the concept of cyberpunk is more used in literary works, paintings, movies, and game creation, there is no undeniable creative style in music, so I can only create with my own understanding and imagination of cyberpunk.
The first step is to make my background sound because it combines the background of the story and the content of the news report is the thinking of the boss of the biological company. I want to make it as if a conspiracy is about to happen. When planning, I want to make it more aggressive and rhythmic. I hope the sound will be more grand and sad. I often hear the use of strings to create a tragic atmosphere in the music of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, so in the first track, I used strings to create the content of the first paragraph, hoping to use strings to The whole atmosphere became tense and tragic. The choir also uses male choir to enhance the overall atmosphere, and then I use synth on pad 1 & 2 to also set up the atmosphere. The overall composition objective is to provide the atmosphere and atmosphere and leave enough space for the audio of the news report.
Challenges and solutions
The second picture shows the background music and audio put together. Because the original audio of the news report had a big problem in recording and presentation, clipping, distortion, noise and humming all appeared in this recording, and I encountered many difficulties in processing the audio. Since I didn't expect such a situation, I searched a lot of information on the Internet and finally used a plug-in to deal with these problems. Then I did an eq process on the accompaniment track, and ultimately reduced the 4000Hz down a bit. This makes the vocals more evident.
collaborative experience
This collaboration is a very good opportunity to learn from each other. The students I collaborated with are all excellent, and their personal creative styles are also very obvious. During the collaboration with them, I learned a lot about software usage and Have the opportunity to exchange music creation. In the final link of combining the three parts, we encountered some difficulties. In the connection part, we made a lot of attempts to prevent the connection between the three pieces of music from being abrupt. In the process of trying, I learned a lot of cohesion methods and mixing skills. I am really grateful for this collaboration and my classmates for their guidance and help in creation.
Lessons Learned in Digital Tools

In this music creation, I tried narration and the use of ring sounds as a way of creation for the first time. This form of creation is very interesting, because in previous creations more emphasis has been placed on reducing ambient sound, but this time ambient sound is a very interesting musical experiment as a way to enhance the atmosphere and strengthen the progressive relationship. But this time, although I am a little more proficient in the use of software than the last homework, I still haven't mastered it very well, so there are many ideas that are very difficult to implement. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen the training in listening to different types of music, and it is necessary to have enough knowledge reserves to better create music.

original idea
The track I adapted is cataplexy by Paul Mac. When I first heard this piece, my most intuitive feeling was that the melody repetition of this piece deeply attracted me. It's still running in my head later. But I don't like the style of this song, so I try to change it to be more refreshing. So, I started to do a lot of blind listening, I listened to a lot of music that I might like, and then analyzed this music, from what instruments they used to the melody in it, and finally found out what a piece of music is Kind of.
Initial creation idea.
For the whole piece, I referred to the structure diagram of cataplexy. Based on the analysis of the previous piece and the deep understanding of the structure diagram, I have an initial idea to produce the piece.
I imagine myself as a conductor of an orchestra. I pour every track in stem into daw, listen carefully, and choose my favorite parts to stay. And then I realized that I thought it would be a little too crowded if I put all the instruments in the middle, so I kept a little bit of the original track and then I mixed a little bit of the percussion to the left and to the right to add some space to the piece. Also, I used the cat wurly melody track as my riff and started to develop and fill in the feeling I needed. After the process of deletion, I only kept some percussion of the original song, pan left/right to create space. Finally, since I kept almost only the melody of two tracks of the original song, I found that the whole was quite empty, so I added a e piano, wrote two chords, and added some small melodies. Copy and paste the e piano midi file to the other two pads to add more texture, harmonic information, and atmosphere.
Exploration composition
In the process of analyzing different types of music tracks, I found that the voice is usually in the middle position, and the drum or bass sound is usually in the middle position when there is no voice. Because it's a piece that I think is the most recognizable part of it is the drum and the bass part. So, I tried to adjust the frequency of the music by placing the drum and bass in the middle according to this rule.
How to improve
I added more instruments like paning, stereo image, reverb and plugins to create space, but most of these were achieved one by one. I then tried to give the piece some eq treatment.
The challenge
I used a lot of pads and I found that each pad had some fragrance below 120 and 150, but if I put them all together, it would make the whole song very muddy in the first place, and I tried a lot of ways, but then I decided to cut the frequency low below 120-150hz. After cutting the low frequencies from the pads, I left some space for the bass. I think the bass is an important instrument and cutting it out gives the bass more space to be used. Because the space, if this originally low frequency this space, it was occupied by some other instruments, then you leave the bass left space is not much, give it play is not much, but if this place is originally clean, let the bass come in right, it is just can is listening to comfortable point.
Artistic vision
In the writing of this piece, I drew on fusion style because my favorited piece is Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' which is a piece of music with a distinctive tone, mood, and color. But unfortunately, I didn't really manage to get the feel of fusion style right.
Summary
I have learned a lot about music production by composing and listening to this piece, and I have also gained some knowledge of arranging and using software. I have incorporated some of my own thinking into the composition, but I need to improve my proficiency with the software and my sensitivity to the music.
