more arquebus society culture shit: most children are not raised by their biological parents (they'd probably be called like. "donors" or some shit for donating their genetic materials). there's like education centers that act as daycares/boarding schools.

at a certain age a couple can "sponsor" you, as in cover your education expenses, among other things like letting you live in their house, which is as close to what a parent is in that society. you can have multiple sponsors and usually that number can increase as you age, with the most common type of sponsor to be like, business executives or politicians. at that point those sponsors are less like parents and more like mentors/job recruiters. the more sponsors someone has, the more "desirable" they are in society. most of the vespers have/had at least 3 separate sponsors. (snail has the most out of all of them, rusty technically had none.)

sponsorship status is public record and it is considered extremely taboo to bring humiliation to someone's own sponsor. snail has lost one before because of some minor mistake he made in his youth, and it kinda fucked him up.

freud has like. at least 5 kids of varying ages all from different people. the freudlings. he does not care about them whatsoever but they all idolize him and want to grow up to be strong like him someday. he's sparred some of the older ones before and has probably killed one during their matches. it's all almost like the arquebus equivalent of mgs's les enfants terribles.
