shading colour tips
hey yall its me the Art Mom™ to help you shade pretty
rule 1: DO NOT SHADE WITH BLACK. EVER. IT NEVER LOOKS GOOD.
red- shade with a slightly darker shade of purple
orange- slightly darker and more saturated shade of red
yellow- i think like..a peach could work but make it a really light peach
green- shade with darker and less saturated shade of blue or teal
blue- shade with purple
purple- a shade thats darker than the purple you’re using and maybe a little pink (MAYBE blue)
pink- darker shade of red
white- a really light lavender or blue..or i guess any really light colour??
black- okay listen dont use pure black to colour anything unless you want to leave it with flat colours because you cant really shade black lol
grey- a slightly darker shade of purple or blue (less saturated)
brown- slightly darker and less saturated shade of purple or red
aaaaand thats all i got lol. let me know if there is anything i should add to this list!!

When I was trying to figure out paint tools sai I had a hard time finding helpful tutorials. So I’ve decided to post some things I’ve discovered that were useful. (And maybe might be useful to you) http://i.imgur.com/9M5XpMw.jpg

This is the quote that has kept me going ever since I started to really struggle with my artwork. An artist I looked up to said these words to me when I asked for help and they have been practically inked into my soul ever since. When I am in doubt, shame, and even feeling helpless about my work… I say these words to myself.
Then I pick up a pen, and I doodle. Because that’s what I need to do.
Don’t give up. Keep drawing.

A little headshot I drew of my goatling. His name is Tombstone. Not sure if Goatlings would be upset if I posted this on their site because of the satanic undertones. I love him though! If you have Goatlings - come find me! My user name is Graveyard.

Part One And a Random Tip
Here’s Part 2 of my tutorial series. It’s covering something that I personally enjoy. There is still much for me to learn, and much I would like to show you from others. In Photoshop I use the Coolorus extension which is available here. It is extremely helpful in picking color schemes. (It includes the ability to switch between RYB and RGB!) Sycra is a master of digital art and makes very in-depth tutorials including color and shading.
PurpleKecleon has a very in-depth tutorial on color.
Lackadaisy tutorials are famous for good reasons.
My next tutorial will come soon.

argyrism asked you:
This may/may not be true for other people, but when I’m wondering about how you choose your colors, I’m wondering about how you make everything, well, harmonic. Noisemaster is a good example of this: he’s got a wide range of colors, but they all work well together, so it doesn’t end up looking garish. So, how do you go about something like that?
Thank you! I want Noisemaster’s pages to look like I’m just selecting colors at random, but it’s really pretty simple. Sure, I use a lot of complementary pairs, triadic colors, etc., but I generally don’t have too much Color Theory Terminology in my head as I’m planning these pages out.
For reference, Pages 447, 448, 451 and 455.
I know I’m not great at technical explanations, but I hope this sheds a little light on what I’m doing!

Casually posts this at 3 am when no one is going to see it.
but FOLDS hoyl shit folds folds are so awesome man you literally have no idea I like drawing folds som uch I’ll put them in places where they don’t even belong sometimes. Honestly this is far from definitive and is just my understanding of how folds works gleamed from hours upon hours staring at strangers pants on mass transit, so don’t take my word for it, do your own study! Look at your own jeans in the mirror! look at other peoples jeans! google jeans on the internets! Each different fit is going to come with it’s own folds, depending on factors like the cut of the leg and how much fabric there is and how heavy it is and man there are just so many variables and things to think about it’s awesome
