he sits, staring into the darkness, with only the sound of ice clinking against his glass to break the silence that lay still between them. he only ever sought out the devil when there was something he needed & lucifer surely did the same with him. it was rare that they pursued each other for a quick catch and a cup of tea: that was part of their own deal that they had together, or at least it was on john’s side. they never spoke about it. they worked together, they fucked, and they moved on until the next case. what they were left with were to be repented in a confessional ─ which never happened, because john doesn’t regret them. though he’s beginning to regret them now, if that’s all it took to establish … whatever this is.

he barely cocks his head up at the other’s introduction and he notes that they’ve stolen his affinity for lurking in the shadows. did he really come here to be a goddamn headache? “ bollocks, ” john finally says, swirling the ice around, “ there’s always a reason with you. whatever it is, it’s my day off. ”

a huff of amusement slips past his lips as he pulls a chair two inches towards himself before sitting down . this is just normal for them both . neither of them like each other ------------ or rather , they like each other but refuse to admit it to either themselves or one another . IT’S JUST THEIR DYNAMIC . and lucifer takes no real issue with that . there’s little that lucifer can’t do on his own , he’s quite capable in his own strengths , but there are certain things in particular that john is far more experienced with . detective work being one . although lucifer has been around enough detectives to learn a thing or two .

it can’t be so wrong of him to want to visit an old friend , can it ? it can’t be so unlike them that it’s impossible to believe he’d ever have that sort of urge . then again , as someone who has lived for many a millennium , it does become easy to forget when he last interacted with some people . especially people who complain so often whenever he’s present . but equally he is the sort of individual who gets very bored very quickly .

𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐬 : the good stuff . directly imported , twenty five years aged , and stupid expensive . but he doesn’t drink it . the rim touches his lip and he can smell the strength of the fumes , but other than that he just sort of holds it . his gaze travels the width of the nightclub --- and there are some people that stand out like the five foot demon in the corner and the dancer at the back wearing barely anything at all . the guests though , usually aren’t so impacting ... usually . he raises a brow at the individual who saunters over to the bar .

he looks them up and down as he moves to place his glass back on the bar’s surface . ❝ aren’t you just a colourful character ? ❞ @furters
