AO3 Comments are SO SO SOOOOOOO important because you can only leave Kudos ONCE. You add to the hit count ONCE (every 24 hours).
So whenever someone updates their fic, the ONLY way an author knows who their regular readers are is if they comment on each chapter. And we WANT to know who's still reading.
Believe it or not, some of us think about the name that pops up constantly in the comments and go "omg I can't wait to see what they think of THIS SPECIFIC SCENE cuz I KNOW they'll say something about it!!!"

Spencer Reid was intelligent enough to know that there was no scientific proof of love at first sight. And Spencer didn’t like to subscribe to theories when there was no scientific evidence behind them.
That was until the night he met you.
The sea of people in the bar parted and there you were, like a vision fallen from heaven. Even in the unflattering strip lights of the bar, you were the most beautiful thing he’d ever laid eyes on.
As your eyes met across the crowded room like a terrible cliché, Spencer Reid suddenly believed in love at first sight.
He knew from that one shared glance he needed to know you, he needed you in his life. He needed to love you.
After speaking with you for less than five minutes, his belief in what he was feeling was only heightened.
You were funny and interesting and he hung off your every word as though they were rungs of a ladder he was climbing right into your heart.
He might not have ended up in your heart after that one meeting, but he did end up in your bed.
The first you kissed him had been outside the bar on the sidewalk. You pulled him through the crowds by his hand and Spencer was so lost in the way your hand felt in his that he didn’t question where you might be leading him.
The cool autumn breeze smacked him in the face but it was a welcome reprieve from the heat in the bar.
He barely registered it though because seconds later you’d moved closer to him and then you’d kissed him and nothing else in the world mattered.
The second kiss came in the cab. You couldn’t keep your hands off of each other as you made out in the backseat, groping at each other like a couple of horny teenagers.
He didn’t want a one night stand, not with you. He knew he would never be able to let you go after this. He just hoped it was more than that for you too.
He didn’t have a chance to take in your apartment because the instant the door was closed behind you, you were kissing him again.
You helped him out of his jacket, then his tie and then his shirt. He returned the favour and aided you out of your dress.
Clothes were strewn around the room like a trail of breadcrumbs towards the bedroom. By the time you fell to the bed you were both completely naked.
You were both extremely turned on, Spencer’s arousal was obvious from the moment you’d taken off his slacks. Discovering how wet you were when he ran his fingers between your legs was a dizzying experience for him. Knowing he’d done that to you without even touching you somehow turned him on more.
Foreplay didn’t last long, you were both just as eager and desperate as each other to get to the main event.
He found a condom in his hand without any real recollection of how it got there, too far gone to think straight.
He knelt over you while he rolled it down his shaft. You smiled up at him, chewing on your lip in anticipation.
You looked ethereal. Your eyes sparkled as you looked at him and the way your hair splayed across the pillow framed your head like a halo.
If he wasn’t in love with you before, he certainly was now.
Spencer was cautious as he pushed inside of you, knowing he was fairly well endowed and not wanting to risk hurting you.
But you grabbed at his ass cheeks, trying to buck your hips to meet him.
He laughed a little, he’d never had someone so desperate for him before.
He pushed all the way inside of you until he bottomed out and then he laid down on top of you and stroked the side of your face.
You kissed him with a soft giggle, urging him to start moving.
He put one hand either side of your face on the pillow for leverage as he started slowly thrusting.
It was only a few seconds before you started moving too, craving more from him. And who was he to deny you of anything?
He quickened his pace which seemed to appease you as you stilled your movements with your hips and let him have full control.
Every now and again you would pull him close and kiss him messily.
Spencer couldn’t take his eyes off of you the whole time. He feared this would be his only night spent with you and if that was so, he wanted to commit every inch of you to memory.
He’d love you forever if you let him but he knew your expiration date was already set and it was much sooner than he would like.
You came together, muttered words and soft moans filling the otherwise quiet room. As he pulled out and discarded the condom, Spencer was wracked with emptiness.
He knew what came next.
He shuffled to the edge of the bed and sat on it, trying to keep his sign internalised.
He was expected to leave. It was a one night stand and nothing more and now he had to leave.
But he would certainly leave a piece of his heart between your sheets.
He pushed himself up from the bed, not wanting to draw out the pain. He heard you shuffling under the covers behind him.
“Where are you going?” Your voice was riddled with sleep.
He turned back to you and you were looking at him through hooded eyes with a slightly dopey smile.
“I uh…I thought that…you don’t want me to leave?”
“Why would I want you to leave?” You reached for him and he let you take his hand.
You pulled him back to the bed and curled into him in an instant.
Spencer felt a weight lift as he wrapped you in his arms.
I’m not sure you’ll ever get rid of me now, he thought as he placed a kiss on your crown.
As you started drifting off to sleep in Spencer’s arms, you felt as though you were where you were always supposed to be.
You’d never believed in love at first sight. Not until you met Spencer Reid.
