Witchshadow thoughts: SPOILERS!!
Witchshadow was a breath of fresh air. There were new interactions and exploration of side characters and it felt more mature and serious than the previous books.
Dynamics I loved: Stix/Ryber, Vivia/Vaness, the Hell-Bards/Safi/Leopold, and of course Iseult/Gretchya!
Witchshadow is Iseults book and we finally get her backstory! Sheâs been pretty inscrutable and is nearly *unrecognizable* when Witchshadow opens, but we finally find out why!
Itâs worth noting Iseult was supposed to have two books. She has two very different arcs over the course of Witchshadow: one in the past, one in the present.
Witchshadow is⊠a bit of a chunker (audiobook is ~20 hrs) BUT!! The settings and perspectives are all so different, and the action and tension are so high that I never wanted to put it down!
Also, the accents!! I never knew the Witchlands had accents but they make so much sense (!) and really make the geography/world building click
Witchshadow is HEAVIER than the other books, but still true to the heart of this series. Iseult and Safi are growing into their roles as the Cahr Awen, making difficult choices with serious consequences. Thereâs a prophesied war *looming* and no one is safe.
Also thereâs a semi-sentient and formally-villainous weasel and I love her.
