actual criticisms of academia:
cost of education acting as class barrier
exploitation of graduate workers
colonialist past and present
ties to military industrial complex
danger of power structure entrenching and justifying orthodox views on social issues
criticisms of academia that get made:
those damn ivory tower academics are wasting money learning about things

There aren't that many books I've loved this year, but those I loved, I loved indeed

So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)

i changed my mind on the horror movies and am also adding La Llorona (2019) and the Curse of La Llorona (2019) as well as the cartoon Victor and Valentino as they also have an episode on La Llorona.
currently reading the third novel where La Llorona is a character, not counting the two picture books, one graphic novel, and three episodes from three different shows revolving around her as well.
and the first one i read remains my favorite (Paola Santiago and the River of Tears by Tehlor Kay Mejia)
