Every Protest Has
Outside provocateurs starting property damage, and violence.
Hardened activists/Professional protestors that are out to get strategically arrested. Usually <10 people.
The groups with almost no connection with the cause being protested who try to make it about themselves.
The cops starting shit. Escalating to militarized police response.
Street theater.
Privileged people starting shit with the cops putting marginalized folks in even more danger.
Surveillance.
Private Security
FBI informants
Counter protestors not in a formal protest group but scattered around the margins, making themselves visible to the media but also on or near public transport so that they can intimidate people coming/going to the protest
"Non-lethal" crowd control methods.
People with bullhorns who should not have them. Ever.
and finally but probably most importantly:
Every protest has
been mischaracterized, often wildly so, by the media.
#I think most of my followers know where I stand on Israel/Gaza#(return the hostages; some kind of two-state solution; a good safe life for everyone in the region)#but this is a really good post and it's obvious that there's a lot of outside agitation happening#and I think certain ringleaders keep escalating so that the more ambivalent participants don't lose interest#Some good people will end up being associated with some really bad ideas#Be smart and safe and FFS don't harass people just because they're Jewish; they are not the Israeli government#Also: counterprotesters have the same rights as protesters; no one has the right to be violent#don't be a dick

US friends, this is super important. There's lots of federal student loan forgiveness happening this summer, but your federal loans must be consolidated to qualify. And the deadline to apply for consolidation is April 30th. Tomorrow.
This has been in the news since last year but I forgot to do it until now. Basically Biden has expandedand clarified what counts toward various types of income driven repayment plans, and now includes time you spent in forbearance. The application took about ten minutes on my phone. And you should qualify even if you're still in school or currently in forbearance. You have to choose a repayment plan as part of the application; SAVE is the best one.
Please share widely and DO the application by tomorrow, folks. This could save you or your friends tens of thousands of dollars and decades of indebtedness.

Bono: I just couldn’t get enough of New York. I didn’t want to actually go into the hotel because I’d stop seeing it, so I went out on to the corner and just continued to look around. My black, fake-fur coat was turning white with snow as a gentleman pulled up beside me in a car and offered to have sex with me. I ran back into the hotel and told everyone what had happened. They looked at me as if to say, ‘What do you expect? You were in a fucking fur coat!’
