uhh had an AU idea where Bingo ends up running away after she finds out that moving means she cant see lila anymore. she goes to find her but has no idea where she lives and is just donkin around the city while chilli and bluey try to find her i just really like the idea of bingo wandering around and ppl being like where is ur parents but also her getting into more lucky and convoluted situations until she actually finds lila somehow. She begs her to come with but chilli and lilas parents/the police find them and explain that they can still be friends but bingo has to leave. Chilli also explains to bingo that you cant just run away like aunt Frisky did when you want things to get better. Used some backgrounds from the show bc im tired gomen lol i was thinking of like writing a fic or making a comic for this but im way too freakin tired so im posting this for yall. if you wanna draw all this out or write it then pls do just link back to this post lmao

Up next: Urban Form / City Planning & Transportation Planning Books
… & loosely tying this to “Bluey”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So… thinking of what to post here in the near future, I’m thinking I’ll talk about some of my go-to/favourite books on these topics and tie them to stuff in “Bluey”. (Not just posting the same screenshots, I promise!)
That and some more of my own fanart at some point.

night, fruit bats! - grey-headed flying fox
requested by @alpaca-dave
Tumblr media Tumblr media
grey-headed flying foxes have appeared in two episodes so far: season one's "fruitbat" and briefly in season three's "bedroom". bluey loves fruit bats, and so do i! australia is home to over 75 species of bat, but the grey-headed flying fox is the biggest. flying foxes--also called fruit bats--are megabats, the larger of the two classifications of bat. while microbats primarily eat insects, megabats love to chow down on all sorts of fruit and nectar. since we're going to be talking about fruit trees as well, this post will be under a read more.
Tumblr media
these bats are highly social, forming groups called "camps" that can contain tens of thousands of individuals. there are three other species of flying fox found in the country (black, little red, and spectacled) and all are effective pollinators, promoting forest health as they disperse seeds and pollen. as bingo correctly states in "fruitbat", these critters are primarily nocturnal, like all bat species. they roost during the day and hunt for fruit, pollen, and nectar at night.
Tumblr media
grey-headed flying foxes are partial migrants, and will travel hundreds of kilometers as foraging locations change. the episode gives us a nice montage of dream-bluey and her flying fox friends on a couple different types of fruit tree. lets take a quite detour to learn about some fruit trees.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first up is a nice looking mango tree. this one looks like it could be a bowen variety. they're the most common and one the most tasty kinds grown in australia. so well beloved, in fact, that there's even a 10 meter tall fiberglass one in its namesake town!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
next, a papaya. there are two main varieties, mexican and hawaiian. this one is mexican, the larger of the two, and is a favorite of fruit-eaters like birds and megabats. despite their prevalence, papaya plants are not native to australia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is a cavendish banana, by far the most popular banana in the entire world--it makes up 99 percent of all bananas grown. the primary variety used to be "big mike", but a devastating fungus-borne disease wiped them out in the 1950s. its likely that the same could happen to the cavendish if we're not careful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
last but not least, a guava tree. this one is a recognizable common guava, which are native to south and central america and the caribbean. they've been introduced worldwide, and can quickly take over. interesting to note that australia actually does have a native guava species, but a highly infectious invasive plant disease called myrtle rust is driving them to extinction.
Tumblr media
such a fun assortment of fruits for a cool critter! these big bats are often considered a nuisance in cities, but they are vital to maintaining healthy forests. one grey-headed flying fox can spread as many as 60,000 seeds in a single night! they're particularly vulnerable to rising temperatures, and experts have noted a considerable decline in their numbers in the last century. the grey-headed flying fox is a beautiful and unique member of the australian ecosystem, and it's high time we appreciated them for the wonders they are. so the next time you say good night, be sure to thank these fascinating animals for all the work they do while you're asleep.

More Cancellation Talk
This isn't an official cancellation, and "Inside the Magic" tends to be a bit "clickbaity"... they take something small and repeat a lot of old content to pad that short item into a long post, but there possibly is some merit to this.
It takes a long time to create a season of episodes of a cartoon, and it could mean "Bluey", if it does have a new season at some point, will have a whole new team working on it... no doubt the staff working on Bluey are all working on different projects already.
What needs to happen is an official announcement that another season has been greenlit & is underway. This limbo situation is not ideal, it must be very stressful for those involved.

Book: “The Image of the City”
Urban Planning x “Bluey”
Kevin Lynch’s “The Image of the City” from 1960 is a book about how urban environments are perceived by residents in different ways, based on two related concepts:
Imageability: the book introduces the concept of “imageability”; this is how a place like a city is re-created in one’s mind. A city with high imageability is easier for residents to navigate because they can form mental maps based on recognizable landmarks and structures. Some places are easier to think of this way than others.
This is closely related to the idea of mental maps. People form maps in their head of their surroundings, consisting of five basic elements:
1. Paths: The routes people take (streets, sidewalks, etc.)
Tumblr media
This one road that takes you everywhere…
2. Edges: Boundaries or linear features (rivers, walls, etc.).
Tumblr media
The river and downtown form an edge in “Ice Cream” and other episodes…
3. Districts: Distinct areas with common characteristics. Retail, housing, etc.
Tumblr media
Mixed-use commercial area…
4. Nodes: Focal points (squares, intersections, landmarks) that you can enter.
Tumblr media
“Dance Mode” square downtown…
5. Landmarks: Prominent, easily identifiable features. They don’t necessarily need to be a place you “go” but act as a tool to “know where you are” in relation to other locations.
Tumblr media
“Big Peanut”…
In the book, Lynch studied residents’ observations and perceptions of Los Angeles, Jersey City, and Boston, but the ideas can be applied to any city, even Brisbane as depicted in “Bluey”.
These categories combine/overlap resulting in cities that are:
Easy to navigate or confusing-to-navigate even to long-term residents!
Beautiful, memorable places (or not)
The historical elements of a location can be a plus or a minus
And this can vary widely even within a small region, like a downtown, or a quadrant of a city.
And different people may have different perceptions of the same area!
“The Image of the City” outlines the importance of understanding how people mentally map their urban environment. City planners can create memorable, attractive, and navigable cities, or on the other hand, they can (sometimes inadvertently) create locations that are boring or confusing.
This is an interesting idea to me, I might pursue this further with more posts if there’s interest?

Bluey's episode "Surprise" and a discussion on the surprise
One of the first things I did when I woke up this morning was watch the Bluey episode "Surprise". I had three thoughts for most of it 1.) Yeah two kids and two different games is gonna get chaotic. 2.) I feel sorry for Bandit. All my man wanted to do was watch the race. Poor guy will definitely wake up tomorrow covered in bruises. 3.) This feels like a generic episode... why air it after "The Sign"? Like what makes it the better season finale. Then I got to the end.
Spoilers below the line
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adult Bluey. She looks great! I am not gonna lie though she maybe looks a little to young. Someone said she was older now because she has grey in her fur. Maybe I am just bad at guessing dog ages but I thought that was just texture to show her fur had gotten longer/thicker over time. I would have honestly believed that she was 18 and visiting home for the first time after going away to college.; particularly since Chili says Bingo is still at home. Then i remembered Bingo is hinted to have an intrest in the medical field/want to be a doctor, so maybe she stays at home longer to save money while working on her degree. But there is one thing to hint Bluey must actually be in her mid to late 20's at this point....
Her little child. Again I am not the best guess of the characters ages... I am going to guess this kid is around 5 based on them only being about a head smaller than Bluey was when she was 7 and played this trick on Bandit (also I just do not think you give a ball shooter to a toddler. Imagine Muffin with one).
The main topic surrounding this little pup right now seems to be who is the father. I understand the shippers want to know, But I am an adult viewer who really does not have that much interest in ships in a children's show. And there are other things I think people should be asking. First do we think this is Bluey's son or her daughter. They look a lot like Bluey, but also a lot different from her. Plus this show is pretty good at not necessarily making all the girls look exactly like their moms: both Bluey and Socks resemble their fathers and Bingo looks as much like her aunt as she does her mom. Other than that the dogs do not wear cloths and we do not hear a name or voice to help us guess. So really they could be either.
That drives me to my next point. I really want this pup to have a name. I definetly believe that Bluey's child would have a name that starts with "B" to carry on the little tradition from her childhood house. Since we do not know if they are a boy or a girl I have decided to christian them by the gender neutral animal name: "Bean". "Beanie" and "Little Bean" are affectionate names family members will call them. Their favorite breakfast food is biscuits with jelly, because then they will be asked "Jelly Bean?" which makes them laugh so hard they almost roll off their chair
Edit
here is a picture of Bluey's child ("Bean") , that I took off the offical wiki, without the toy gear. They have less jet black fur and more purple/dark blue than it originally looked like they did when they were wearing the toy. Personally I think they look like a blue/grey version of Brandy. Genetics are fun. It is much harder to say looking at this picture if they are a Blue Heeler/Border Collie mix or a Blue Heeler/ Black lab mix. Wiki says this is on purpose as both mixed breed dogs can look fairly alike and that the pup has traits that could come from either Bluey's friend Mackenzie or her Friend Jean Luc. So you heard it here. The creators intentionally left the breed/father of this pup ambiguous, and you are not wrong for believing either one of them is Bluey's husband/ the father.

“Surprise” was pitched?
This story is interesting because it seems to suggest that ideas for “Bluey” episodes can be pitched? I have never heard that “being a thing”.

All this time I’d been assuming Muffin was named that because Muffy = a stereotypical rich-little-girl name…
Tumblr media
Muffy Crosswire, from PBS’s “Arthur”
Certainly hadn’t thought it was because Muffin is spotty like an actual muffin! LOL 😂
Tumblr media
A post on Reddit brought this up first so I went to check it out for myself and it's true (for now at least)! If you did a search with “Names of Bluey's Friends” on Google Chrome, you'll get a list of Bluey's friends and relatives that are accurate for the most part except for…

P.S. Electrical Generation
The rooftop solar panels, wind turbines, and what may be a cooling tower for a nuclear reactor have been pointed out in the comments!
Yes, yes, interesting to see. Good to have power options and a robust grid.
Tumblr media
Future Brisbane
So, at the end of “Surprise”, we get to see future-Brisbane, maybe 25-30 years in the future? A grown-up Bluey brings her child to visit her parents’ house, so her kid can blast Dad with tennis balls like she did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compare future Brisbane with current Brisbane
Tumblr media
First of all, nice to see the house hasn’t fallen down, Dad and Mum have kept it in good repair (thanks Hammerbarn) and it now has solar panels, as do a number of other homes.
Many things have changed:
An incredible increase in land use density; multiple medium and tall towers (like in downtown) now are common in the suburban area. Assuming this means much more multifamily housing.
Roads much less dominant/conspicuous in the hills
Look how the trees have grown.
The communications towers on the hilltops are less conspicuous.
Three waste/recycling bins (addressing the green waste recycling issue)
Drone transport (for deliveries?)
Some things haven’t changed:
Sky is blue. That’s good.
The whole area hasn’t flooded from rising sea levels…
Adult Bluey drives, or at least is using a private vehicle, rather than something like an on-demand transit service. (Maybe the drone deliveries mean less congestion on the roads but traffic has never been a big issue in Bluey-Brisbane 😉)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inside the house is not crazy-futuristic, some electronic gadgets, like a Roomba. (I was expecting more high-tech like a Mr. Fusion from “Back to the Future” but that’d probably be by the kitchen or by the garbage wheelie-bins.)
I know my parents still have the same stereo they had 30+ years ago, and much of the same furniture.
Note that 30 years of progress has not improved how Roombas dock with their charging stations.
Some other new tech in the front hall:
Electronic digital picture frames with weird floating connections to the wall.
Wifi router thing on ceiling
Spherical thing (maybe something like an Alexa?)
New comfy chair, replacing the red one.
Tumblr media
Density Increase
The increase in land use density in the Brisbane suburbs where the Heelers live is one of those dreams of land use planners; more density in already developed areas is generally considered a plus, assuming the infrastructure can accommodate it. Higher density means more people in a given area making public transit more efficient and reducing costs to serve the homes with utilities.
Is that kind of growth possible in only a few decades? Yes, here’s a North American example… this is where I grew up, in the early 1980s it looked like this in Mississauga, ON around the Square One shopping centre…
Tumblr media
…and now it looks like this in the 2020s.
Tumblr media
So that’s growth over about 30-40 years, which is a little longer than how much time has apparently elapsed in “Bluey”, but not a lot. It’s possible, and this kind of thing can snowball / accelerate once initial projects get underway.
Public opposition (NIMBY) can prevent this kind of thing from occurring in many cities.
