Upside Down Feelings
Chapter Six: The Monster
Tumblr media
summary: The trio returns to Nancy’s house after the night’s events and Y/N insists on going home to reflect. The next day, they prep for their monster hunt.
word count: 4000
“Get Jonathan,” Nancy mouthed. You frowned and shook your head, not wanting to leave her alone with that thing. She rolled her eyes and started pointing back at the entrance you came in from. “Go.”
You sighed, not even bothering to turn around before crawling in reverse back through the tree’s entrance. You went fast before feeling resistance and bursting back through the other side of the tree.
“What the hell?!” Jonathan jumped back as you broke through, gasping for breath as the shock wore off and you began getting a grip of the situation. “Wh-Where did you- Are you okay? Where’s-“
“RUN, NANCY!” You screamed, motioning Jonathan to stand at the tree’s portal. You’d stand there yourself if your hands didn’t feel torn to shreds. “NANCY, COME ON!”
Silence.
Jonathan looked over at you with concern and confusion before bending down to take a look at the tree you just burst through, noticing the blood that dropped at the top of the entrance. You winced as you used your hands to pick yourself off the ground before you wandered back over to the opening. You both looked closely for a moment, waiting for something- anything, when finally, a hand stuck out of it, making you and Jonathan jump back before you heard her voice again.
“JONATHAN! Y/N!” Nancy screamed. You both reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling as hard as you could as she slowly submerged from the tree. It wasn’t quick enough; you saw the edges of the entrance begin to seal up. Without hesitation, you grabbed the pocket knife from your bag and began to cut the sludge that prevented her from coming out. It only seemed to anger the tree, making it reseal quicker; you panicked and sliced through as fast as you could before she finally budged, falling into Jonathan. Once you heard her sobs and saw the portal shut, you breathed out a sigh of relief and allowed your tired body to fall back and rest.
“I got you,” He panted as she cried into his shoulder. His eyes widened as he realized that the tree went back to its normal state. It was as if nothing had ever happened. You all took a moment to collect yourselves- your racing hearts and rapid breathing, before heading out of the woods and back to the Wheeler residence.
———
You’d taken a shower at Nancy’s house and put on some clothes you’d accidentally left at her place over the years before you decided on going home. She offered for you to stay the night, begged even.
You really did want to stay, but seeing her worried face only brought you back to the moment she brought her shaky finger up to her quivering lips. It was like your own personal hell; every time you glanced up at her, you’d remember vividly how the monster stood behind her in that dimension. Every time you heard her voice, you’d remember the way she screamed as you cut her out of the tree.
This wasn’t something you could talk through the way you did with arguments and grief. This was something entirely different. It was the realization that Will and Barb met the same fate as that shredded deer. It was the fact that a monster was on the loose, and you all lacked a proper plan of defense.
This was sheer terror and utter hopelessness brought on by the night’s traumas. And being in her presence somehow only made everything seem more real and much worse.
“Call me the second you get home,” She said, pulling you into a hug. “I’ll swing by in the morning.”
You’d said your goodbyes and made your way out of her house, grabbing your bike from the garage. As you began to walk it out to the street, you heard a branch snap to your right and froze.
You looked around, seeing nothing out of the ordinary. You didn’t hear anything for a few seconds. Convincing yourself that you were just paranoid from the prior events, you began to walk again when the obvious sound of footsteps stopped you in your tracks again.
You felt the hair on the back of your neck raise as you looked around again, cursing the dark night that prevented you a clear view of anything further than five feet. You scrambled around in your bag, looking for a flashlight before your hand finally touched its cool metal. You flipped it on to see the figure of a man standing only mere feet away from you. You let out a scream, only for it to scream back.
That was a boy’s scream.
That was Steve Harrington’s scream.
“Jesus, what the fuck, dude?!” You let out a breath of relief; something you’d never thought you do at the sight of him. “You scared the shit out of me!”
“I scared the shit out of you?! You just screamed bloody murder! I’m on the verge of a heart attack right now,” He placed it hand on his heart.
“What are you even doing here anyway?” You asked, turning the light to the ground so you could still see his face as you spoke to him. “People are going missing. There’s a town curfew. You should be home.”
“I could say the same to you,” He responded without missing a beat. “What are you doing here anyway?”
“I’m-..” You stopped, catching yourself from saying anything too revealing. He raised his brows expectedly. “I’m at my best friend’s house. What do you think I was doing, dumbass? Hunting elephants? We were hanging out.”
“Ah,” He nodded, looking up at her window as if there was more he wasn’t telling you. “A little late to be hanging out with a boy.”
You shrugged.
“Not really. We had to wait for her parents to go to sleep before we started the threesome.”
“W-What?” He stammered. “But- She said that- With Barb and Will- I just-“
“Steve,” You felt the corners of your mouth creep into a small smile. “That was a joke.”
“Oh,” He breathed before chuckling. “That was funny. You had me there for a second. But that still doesn’t explain why-“
“As interesting as this conversation is, Harrington, I really have to go.”
“I-I wasn’t like stalking her or anything,” He stammered. “I was just checking up on her because she seemed upset and then I saw Jonathan-“
“Dude, I’m kind of in a rush here so save the sob story for your friends. I have to get home,” You pat his shoulder, making his lips part in shock at your unamused tone. He opened his mouth to speak again but you beat him to it. “Don’t worry though, I won’t tell her I saw you here. What’s one more secret, right?”
He frowned before following you out to the street, tired of you blowing him off. He wasn’t used to this type of treatment. Steve The Hair Harrington normally has girls swooning the moment he gives them the time of day. This was something new entirely.
“Hey, why do you hate me so much?” He asked, making you stop. “I understand why you hate my friends but I’m not like them. You and I used to be friends, you know.”
“Yeah, for like one summer in middle school,” You rolled your eyes, realizing he wasn’t letting you go as easily as you thought he would. “Plus, that was before you let your looks and status get to your head. You didn’t pretend to be someone you weren’t, and you certainly didn’t sit idly by as your so-called friends bullied other people.”
“Hey, I stepped in after they threw you against the locker the other day,” He took a step towards you, placing a hand on the bike.
“After,” You echoed, nodding slowly with pursed lips as if to say he’d just proven your point. His face fell subtly and you sighed at his sad puppy dog eyes. “Look, I don’t hate you, alright? I just happened to know who you were before you got popular and preferred that guy.”
Steve stayed silent, and you took that as your sign to leave. You slung your leg over your bike and began peddling down the street before you heard him call after you again.
“Wait!”
“Oh my god,” You groaned, hopping off the peddles after you stopped yet again. “What?”
“Let me drive you home,” He jogged up to you.
“Dude, after the night I just had, I really don’t have the patience for your shitty jokes-“
“Jokes?” He asked innocently.
“You’re being serious?” You asked.
“What? Yes, I’m being serious. Maybe you shouldn’t be riding home alone on your bike with everything that’s going on. Let me give you a ride. And then we can go back to never talking again if that’s what you want.”
“What’s the catch?” You narrowed your eyes.
“Oh my God, Henderson. Can I not just offer you a fucking ride home?!”
“Fine. Just don’t drive near the woods. Take the long way,” You stepped off of your bike, allowing him to walk it to and load it onto his car.
You helped him load it onto the rack before you both took your seats inside the car as the end of Time After Time played through. It took everything inside of you to fight the urge to roll your eyes.
Of course he was a Cyndi Lauper fan.
“Jesus,” You scoffed, earning his gaze for a split second. “Is this your make out playlist or something?”
“I mean, kind of. I made it for Nancy,” Steve shrugged. You found it weird that he all but winced when he said her name.
“So you put Time After Time on there?” You bit back a smile of your own, placing your right arm on the window trim. “What’s next? Like A Virgin by Madonna?”
“What?” He scoffed. “No, of course not!”
You leaned forward and pressed the next button on his radio system.
“Could you do me a favor and stop touching things? I don’t want your-“
He was interrupted by the upbeat synth from Like A Virgin began softly playing through his car speakers. You threw your head back in laughter.
“You’re kidding!” You dropped your face into your right hand, still laughing as her voice filled the car. His annoyed demeanor melted into giggles from seeing your hearty laugh.
“Are you making fun of my music taste?” He smiled.
“No, no. Not at all. This is great!”
“Oh, fuck off,” He smiled.
“No, really. You should be a DJ or something!”
“…” He looked over at you to try to read your face, only seeing the toothy grin that adorned it. “Seriously?”
“No, this might just be the shittiest make out playlist I’ve ever heard in my life,” You teased. It was his turn to let out a laugh. “If you want really impress her, add some songs by The Smiths to the next one.”
“Yeah, well,” He sighed. “I’m not too sure there will be a next one. Not after tonight.”
Not after tonight. There was a lot that you wouldn’t be doing after tonight either.
Your smile faded as the memories of the night hit you like a series of punches to the gut; the deer, the tree, Nancy holding her finger up to her lips, the monster.
“Y/N, did you hear me?” He asked, touching your leg to get your attention. You gasped at the sudden sensation, making him jump a bit. “Woah, hey, you good?”
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine,” You breathed. “I’m sorry, what were you saying?”
“I said we’re here,” He muttered as he looked over at you with a frown. “Are you sure you’re alright? You’ve been really jumpy-“
“Yeah, I’m good. Thanks for the ride,” You smiled nervously as you opened up the door.
You opened your door before walking to the back of the car to get your bike off the rack. You didn’t realize your palms were still injured when you went to grab it and hissed in pain, almost missing the shock that prevented your brain from feeling the piercing sensation.
“I got it,” Steve said as he glanced down at your palms. He stayed silent as he lowered it to the ground before speaking up again. “What happened to your hands?”
“I.. fell,” You blinked. “Have a good night, Steve. Thanks again.”
“Yeah. Yeah, you too, Y/N..” He mumbled as he watched you walk away. “What the hell..”
———
There was a brief moment of ignorant bliss in the following minutes after waking up. You’d opened your eyes, and for split second, everything seemed okay. You didn’t remember anything from the past few weeks. You simply rubbed the sleep out of your eyes as you looked around your room to see it just how you left it the night before. You’d even smiled.
It wasn’t until you lifted yourself out of bed and winced at the dull pain in your palms that every memory shot back to the forefront of your mind like a bullet through a window.
“Hey, Y/N! Nancy and Jonathan are here for you!” Dustin burst into your room, making you jump. “Oh, you’re up already. They’re waiting for you in the living room. I’m going to Will’s. Bye!”
You quickly got dressed before walking into the living room to see the duo staring back at you with wide eyes.
“Morning,” You mumbled with a raspy voice as you walked past them to the kitchen. “Want some coffee?”
“No time. We need to go to the hunting and camping store to prep for the hunt,” Nancy stood up from the couch and followed you.
“That’s where you’re wrong,” You shook your head, pouring a cup of black coffee into a mug and taking a swig. “There’s always time for coffee. Plus, you look like you didn’t get a lick of sleep. Here.”
“Did you?” She asked, watching as you slid over her own mug of coffee. “Sleep, I mean.”
“Define sleep,” You dry chuckle. Though you’d woken up to a blissful morning, the night was full of night terrors and sweat. She looked down and played with her fingers; a nervous tick she’d had since she was a child. “So what’s our game plan? I know that look; you wanna find it again.”
“I stayed up all night thinking about it,” She nodded as Jonathan came in. You handed him a mug as she spoke. “This.. thing.. it’s a nocturnal predator that hunts alone. I think it can detect blood. Maybe that’s how it was drawn to the deer and Barb. She’d cut her finger on the beer can earlier that night.”
“Yeah, and we wanna test her theory,” Jonathan nodded.
“Okay, so it works. Then what?” You took a sip.
“If it works,” Nancy breathed. “We’ll know it’s coming.”
You took a moment to think about her proposition; toying with the mug in your hand as you bit your bottom lip.
“After everything that happened last night, I understand if you wanna sit this out.” She said, placing a gentle hand on your wrist. “I don’t want you to think I’m obligating you to come.”
“I’m in,” You put down your mug and grabbed your jacket. They stared. “What are you guys waiting for? Let’s go.”
———
“Monster hunting?” Jonathan smirked, making you laugh as you both placed the boxes in the trunk of his car.
“That was brilliant!” You grinned.
“You know, last week my biggest concerns were shopping for a new top I thought Steve might like and coming up with a top notch apology for Y/N,” She told him. “It took me and Barb all weekend. It seemed like life or death, you know? And now-“
“You’re shopping for bear traps with the friend you thought you’d never talk to again and Jonathan Byers?” He shut the trunk. She nodded. “What’s the weirdest part? Me, Y/N, or the bear trap?”
“You,” She smiled up at him, making you chuckle. “It’s definitely you.”
“Hey, Nance!” Reed called from a red mustang. “Can’t wait to see your movie!”
“Movie?” You asked.
“What the hell was that?” Jonathan questioned.
“I don’t know,” Nancy muttered. She stood in thought before something dawned on her. She twirled around and made a beeline to the movie theater. You both followed her, taking off into a full-on sprint behind her.
“Nancy, where are you going?”
“Nancy, wait! Wait up!”
It wasn’t until she began crossing the street that you laid eyes on the words All The Right Moves Starring Nancy The Slut Wheeler. You brought your hand up to your mouth in shock.
“Jesus,” Jonathan breathed before you all heard a spray can hissing into the alleyway along with familiar giggles. Nancy made her way to the sounds, only to find Steve and his friends standing around as one of them spray painted a building.
“Nance,” You warned, following close behind her. “Nancy!”
“Aww, hey there, princess!” Carol sneered.
“Uh oh! She looks upset!” Tommy commented as she walked up to a heartbroken looking Steve; he wore the same pout as he did the night before when you brought up her name. She drew back her hand before slapping him hard. The surrounding crowd cheered.
“What is wrong with you?” Nancy spat at Steve.
“What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with you? I was worried about you,” He spoke with disgust. “I can’t believe that I was actually worried about you..”
“What are you talking about?” She questioned.
“I wouldn’t lie if I were you,” Carol spoke up. “You don’t want to be known as the lying slit now, do you?”
“You fucking bitch,” You hissed before shoving her backwards with force. “What? Is the Queen of Whores herself tired of her title, huh? Trying to pass on the crown to someone who doesn’t deserve it?”
“You know who does deserve it?” Carol smiled innocently, looking you right in the eyes. “Hey, Nancy! Did you ever wonder why Y/N was so eager to leave your house last night? Hm? It’s because Steve was waiting outside, ready to take her home, if you know what I mean… Talk about someone who deserves it.”
You drew your fist back, fully ready to give her daddy another reason to fund a nose reconstruction, when you felt someone behind you catch it. You looked back and saw Jonathan lower your arm and pull you away.
“Looks like they might’ve been tag teaming your girlfriend last night, Steve!”
“Shut up, Carol!” He growled before looking back down at Nancy. “You know, I went to your house looking for you only to find you all cozied up with Byers! So yeah, when I saw your little friend here come out alone, I offered to take her home. She gave me the best ride of my life-“
You felt your face scrunch up in disgust at the thought of it.
“Look, I don’t know what you think you saw, but it wasn’t like that!” Nancy explained with annoyance. “Y/N was there with us. Tell him!”
“She’s right. It wasn’t like that. I should know, I was with them all night-“
“Yeah, until you weren’t,” Steve brushed you off before looking back down at Nancy “And then what, huh? What happened after Y/N came home with me? You just let him stay in your room to… study?”
“Or for another pervy photo session?” Someone asked, making the group laugh.
“We were just-“ She glanced at you.
“Don’t look at her. Look at me. You were just what? Finish that sentence,” Steve took a step towards her. “Finish. The. Sentence.”
You stood in shock as she remained silent.
“Go to hell, Nancy,” He scoffed before looking over at you. “I’ll see you tonight at the same time?”
“Bite me,” You rolled your eyes, making him smirk.
“Come on, Nancy. Let’s just leave,” Jonathan muttered, taking you both by your upper arms and gently pulling you away.
“You know what, Byers? I’m actually kind of impressed. I always took you for a queer,” Steve shoved the boy, sending him stumbling back a bit. “But I guess you’re just a little screw-up just like your father. That house is full of screw-ups. You know, I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised. A bunch of screw-ups in your family.”
“Jonathan, leave it,” Nancy begged.
“And your mom? I’m not even surprised what happened to your brother.“
“Steve, shut up!” You shouted.
“I’m sorry, I hate to be the one to tell you but the Byers, their family, it’s a disgrace to the entire-“
Jonathan swung around and socked Steve in the mouth, making you both gasp. Steve tackled him to the ground before they both rolled around laying punching on one another until the cops pulled up. By that point, Jonathan had Steve on the ground, pounding punch after punch into his face. You and Nancy continued to yell at the to stop before the cops finally peeled them off of each other.
Steve ran.
Jonathan got cuffed.
You begged the police officers to let him go to no avail. They simply loaded him into the back of their car and sped off to the police station.
“We need to go to the car and follow them,” Nancy turned to you. “Do you have your license?”
“No, do you?” You asked.
“No..” She sighed, leaning on the wall behind her. “What Steve was saying.. Was any of that true?
“Only the fact that he gave me a ride back to my place. Trust me, nothing happened. He’s just trying to get under your skin,” You shook your head. “Dustin slept in my bed again; you can ask him-“
“It’s okay. I believe you,” She smiled softly. “I was wondering how you got home so fast. I’m just glad you didn’t ride home alone.”
She looked down again to play with the car keys in her hands.
“Come on,” You grinned, taking them from her. “Let’s go to the police station.”
“But-“
“What’s the worst that’ll happen? After what we survived through last night, I’m feeling pretty lucky. Maybe we can buy a lottery ticket on the way!” You smirked before walking off. She chuckled before following behind you.
———
“Go ahead,” Jonathan told you as soon as Nancy left to look for ice. “Tell me how stupid I am for beating him up. I can see it on your face.”
“Oh, that was beyond stupid,” You said before smiling. “But I can’t say it wasn’t brave. He had it coming. I probably would’ve done the same. Hell, I would’ve punched the lights out on Carol had you not held me back so I’m in no place to judge.”
He looked over at you and chuckled, appreciating your sincerity.
“So did Steve really take you home?” He asked softly.
“Only in the literal sense,” You said before drawing in a breath and sitting back in your seat. “You wanna know the crazy part? During that car ride, I was actually starting to believe that he wasn’t half bad. I was thinking: Hey, if Nancy ends up with this guy, it wouldn’t be the end of the world for her… Boy was I wrong..”
“Fuck him,” Jonathan muttered. “She deserves better.
“Yeah,” You nodded, never taking your eyes off of him. “She deserves way better.”
“Found some ice,” She smiled over at Jonathan, taking a seat beside him.
“Is everything okay?” He asked her as she gently pressed the ice to his cheek. She smiled and nodded.
She did deserve better. And, in your opinion, it couldn’t get much better than the boy that sat there looking at her like she hung the stars. In the short amount of time you’d spent with Jonathan, he made you realize that there wasn’t a better match for Nancy. But the problem wasn’t that she didn’t feel anything in return, it was the fact that she’d never admit it to herself.

Season 1, Episode 11: Formality
Hey there beautiful reader! If you’re new here, this is a series I’m writing where each chapter is an episode from the first season of Teen Wolf. If you’ve been here before, hey! I missed you! Previous and future chapters are linked at the end of each part if you want to catch up.
Pairing: Stiles x Psychic! Reader (FINALLY!)
Warnings: angsty angst angst
Notes: Does anyone still like this series? The last part kinda flopped 🤨
Anyway, I’m back and super excited bc my babies are FINALLY official and they only had to almost die like three times to do it!
P.S. Lydia has terrible taste in men, Y/N still sucks at being a psychic, and the high school desperately needs more security

                                                  ————————
Have you ever had a day go so unbelievably sideways that you honestly can’t even comprehend how fucked up it is?
Yeah, welcome to my Friday.
“This is the worst! My life is literally over.”
I huffed in annoyance, my jaw dropping at the pure absurdity of that statement. “Scott, Peter tried kidnapping you this morning and you’re worried about a dance?”
He frowned from beside me, his shoulders sagging. Last night, Deaton tried making Stiles and I leave the clinic once he was all patched up, but we both refused. I still wasn’t completely convinced that he was alive until he woke up with a start this morning.
It didn’t take long for Peter to show up, demanding that we hand him over. Actually, I can’t really say we because the three of us hid in the back while Deaton somehow took care of it.
Derek was still hanging out in the Argent’s basement, probably being tortured by Kate but most likely dead by now. I tried talking to Allison when I got to school this morning, but she practically ran away from me when I brought it up. I had no idea how much she knew at this point, and it was freaking me out.
And, to top it all off, Scott was flunking so many classes that coach banned him from the dance tonight.
Clearly, that was the most pressing issue.
He was so desperate afterward that he asked Jackson to watch over Allison, since he is her date. He apparently refused because it’s Jackson, so Scott had been losing his mind with worry all day. He was convinced that Peter would be after her next, but I wasn’t so sure.
She wasn’t an obvious choice. I mean, her family is literally just a bunch of professional werewolf hunters. Adding her to his pack wouldn’t make much sense.
“I just—I can’t sit by and watch him try to kill everyone I love.” Scott forced a hand through his hair with a heavy sigh.
My steps faltered and I peered over at him, my eyebrows raised in surprise. “You love her?”
“Oh,” His eyes widened as he realized what he said. “Yeah. I do. Holy shit. I love her.”
I watched as his lips slowly pulled into a grin, relieved that he wasn’t freaking out for a moment. It’d been pretty obvious for awhile that they loved each other, and I was honestly shocked it had taken him this long to acknowledge it, but happy for him nonetheless.
“That’s it. I’m going tonight.” His face hardened with determination before he turned on his heel and walked away briskly.
“Okay. Bye to you too!” I chuckled, curious to see how he’d manage to sneak in.
I only made it a few steps before someone rammed into my side forcefully. A pair of hands gripped my arms to steady me as I nearly toppled over. My eyes narrowed as they landed on Stiles’ sheepish expression.
“Hey. Sorry.” He let me go quickly and scratched at the back of his head. “Where have you been?”
“Class..?” I drawled slowly, my eyes trailing over his twitchy frame slowly. He seemed more wired than normal, which was saying a lot.
His chest was heaving as if he’d just run a mile—which I’d recently learned he was surprisingly incapable of—and his eyes were shining with barely contained anxiety.
“I just…uh—I have a, I’ve been trying to…will you go to formal with me?” He rushed the words out so quickly, it took me a second to process them.
I just stared at him, waiting a moment to see if he was going to follow that up with anything else. “You mean the one that’s tonight? Are you serious?”
His honey eyes widened, as if he wasn’t expecting that response. I mean, what else was I supposed to say? I’d been waiting for him to ask me for almost two weeks now, and he waits until the day of? Who does that?
“Uh,” He glanced away from me quickly, his cheeks turning pink under the fluorescent lights. “Not if you’re going to say no.”
I just rolled my eyes, ignoring the way my heart began fluttering at the thought of going with him. I took a step forward so that there were only a few inches separating us and leaned up to place a gentle kiss on his cheek.
“It’s a date.” I patted his chest before walking away, an amused smirk pulling at my lips at his stunned expression.
                                                      ————————
I let my fingers trail over the frilly materials hanging in front of me as I took in my options. I was failing miserably at finding something decent to wear tonight. I wasn’t used to dressing up or being overly girly, so I had no idea where to start. I’d really just been standing here for the last several minutes, overwhelmed by all the colors and textures.
Allison was standing to my left, inspecting a few dresses in a full length mirror. Lydia was long gone somewhere behind me with a mountain of cloth in her arms. I picked up a knee-length blue dress and decided it wouldn’t hurt to try it on.
I saw someone approaching Allison out of my corner of my eye and glanced her way fleetingly, but froze as my gaze locked with Peter’s. I looked around, not fully believing that he was here, before jerking my attention back to him. He gave me a slow, amused smirk before shifting his eyes toward her. My head whipped back to the dresses in front of me, my entire body going rigid as I tried not to alarm her.
Maybe Scott had been right this afternoon. But would he really try to turn her now? In the middle of the mall?
“That’s not your color.” I heard him murmur, and stole another look their way. I didn’t want Allison to catch on that I knew him, or that anything was wrong. Very, very wrong.
Allison shifted her weight, looking uncomfortable as he stared at her intensely. “Sorry if that was intrusive but, considering your skin tone, I’d go lighter.”
“Because I’m pale?” She asked quietly, somehow not questioning the fashion advice from a strange man.
“Fair.” He corrected, his head tilting as he tried to look well-meaning. “I mean, you can’t call skin like yours pale. Not skin that perfect…”
“Okay.” She laughed awkwardly and put the dress she was considering back on the rack beside her.
“Trust me, I have a…unique perspective on the subject.” She nodded and turned to walk away with a tight smile, obviously weirded out, but he stepped to the side so she couldn’t get away. My skin crawled at the predatory gleam in his eyes as he practically sized her up.
She watched nervously as he grabbed a new dress from the rack behind him and took her hand in his. She reeled back instantly at the unwelcome touch, but that didn’t stop him from bringing her skin up beside the material for comparison. “See? Much better.”
I’d heard enough. I took the few steps needed to close the distance between us, my heart racing in my chest. I wasn’t convinced that he was stupid enough to try anything wolfy in public, but I wasn’t about to take any chances, either. I stopped at her side and grabbed her wrist gently. Her wide eyes jerked toward me, swimming with relief.
“Hey, Lydia needs help in the dressing room.” I rushed the lie out quickly, barely registering that she nodded in understanding before pulling her away.
I didn’t even spare another glance at Peter as I weaved through the narrow isles briskly, not stopping until I found Lydia clear on the other end of the store. She actually was by the dressing rooms, posing to herself in a full length mirror. I staggered to a halt at the sight of the champagne dress she had on. It was somehow…familiar?
“That was so creepy.” Allison muttered quietly as she shook my hand off and plopped down onto one of the plush chairs beside the mirrors.
I walked right up to Lydia, unable to stop myself as I continued inspecting her dress. She watched me for a moment and raised her eyebrows expectantly when my gaze rose to meet hers. My face pinched in confusion. There was a persistent nagging at the back of my mind as I looked at her, like there was something I should be picking up on. But I just couldn’t place it.
“I think that’s the one.” I jumped as Allison suddenly spoke up from behind us. I cleared my throat and took a step away from Lydia, realizing how weird I was being.
She turned away from me with one last questioning glance before giving herself a satisfied smile in the mirror, her hands smoothing down the silky material before resting on her hips.
“Me too.” She spun around excitedly and disappeared behind one of the dressing room curtains.
I couldn’t explain it, but I suddenly felt my stomach twist as a dark cloud of dread washed over me.
                                                    ————————
I looked over Stiles’ shoulder, the hardwood floors beneath my feet vibrating as loud music rang throughout the space. We were slow dancing for the second time tonight, my arms locked around his neck and my head resting against his chest. It was really nice, being this close to him. It helped lower the base level of anxiety I’d been fighting all day.
It’d been nearly an hour since I last saw any of our friends. We all met up with our respective dates at the start of the dance, Lydia having brought a random lacrosse player since Jackson was with Allison. Just then, my eyes found them dancing stiffly a few couples away, but the sight did little to calm my nerves.
He was completely wasted at this point, since he thought it was a good idea to bring a flask of vodka with him, and she was just trying to make the best of it until we all went home. It was clear that neither of them wanted to be here together, but Scott had pretty much threatened him into watching over her, and she didn’t want to be without a date.
Scott successfully snuck in through the roof—don’t ask me how—and was managing to keep an eye on them while dodging coach all night. My eyes swept over the room, seeing nothing but familiar faces, just not the one I was looking for.
Stiles suddenly pulled back and my arms loosened from around his neck. His eyes rounded as they flickered around my face with concern. “You okay?”
I glanced over his shoulder again, feeling uncomfortable under his intense gaze. I didn’t want to lie to him, but I also didn’t know how to explain the uneasy feeling I’d had since we got here. My dancing faltered as I noticed that Jackson and Allison were gone.
“Have you seen Lydia recently?” I asked absently, my eyes still sweeping around the gym quickly.
I took a step away from Stiles and turned all the way around, my chest tightening with anxiety. For some reason, I felt like I needed to find her. Right now. Or something terrible was going to happen. My anxiety was quickly rising to panic when I didn’t see her anywhere.
“Y/N?” Stiles put a hand on my shoulder and I glanced back to see him watching me closely, his brows pinched in confusion.
“I have to…” My skin was crawling with the intense need to get out of here. Something was wrong. I could just feel it. I leaned forward to place a quick kiss on his cheek, already feeling guilty for what I was about to do. “I’m sorry. I’ll be right back.”
I started jogging away before he could try and stop me. My legs had a mind of their own as I stumbled through the dense crowd toward the exit. I braced my hands against the gym doors and pushed my way through, stopping for a moment as they fluttered closed behind me to consider where she could be. I huffed, feeling an urgency deep inside me that was only growing with each passing moment.
I turned on my heel to keep moving, and slammed right into a hard chest. I reeled back, ready to brush past whoever it was, but stopped when I saw that it was Jackson. His chest was heaving, as if he’d been running, and his eyes were wide with fear.
“Jackson?” I asked tentatively, the look he was giving me only increasing my unease.
He stammered silently for a few seconds, his mouth opening and closing repeatedly. His eyes fluttered as they glanced away from me apprehensively. He was acting like he’d just seen a ghost, or maybe something worse.
“What is it? What’s wrong?” I pressed, taking a step toward him.
He gulped and let out a shuddering sigh. “I-I was out behind the school and…and I was…”
“What? What did you do?” My voice hardened with frustration as I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously. He had definitely been up to something, if his guilt-ridden expression was any indication. I momentarily forgot what I was supposed to be doing as my curiosity peaked.
“I-I told…Allison’s dad, he was…”
My heart skipped a beat with panic at his words. Mr. Argent was behind the school? Why would he…
Oh shit.
Oh my God.
Without even sparing him another glance, I rushed past him and straight down the hall. Within seconds I was outside, the freezing night air causing my skin to rise with goosebumps instantly. My head whipped from side to side as I tried to figure out which way to go. On instinct, I starting running toward the lacrosse field.
My heart was hammering painfully in my chest as I sprinted as fast as humanly possible. I was suddenly very glad that I’d chosen to wear ballet flats tonight, instead of the heels Lydia had tried forcing me to buy. I let my intuition guide me as I kept going until I reached the edge of the field.
I staggered to a stop, my eyes widening at the sight of Lydia standing at the other end. Her back was to me as she walked around slowly, looking lost. I opened my mouth to call her name, feeling my chest loosen just slightly at the fact that she was okay.
I froze, my whole body growing rigid with fear as Peter suddenly emerged from the tree line just outside the field. His figure was mostly cloaked by the bright stadium lights as he approached her, and it didn’t seem like she’d seen him yet.
“Lydia!” I screamed, finally finding my voice through the panic coursing through me. I started running in her direction again, having no plan but just needing to be there with her.
She whipped around at the sound of her name, but made no move to get away. There was nothing I could do but watch in horror as Peter stalked toward her and opened his mouth wide, his eyes flashing bright red. She didn’t react nearly fast enough.
By the time I reached them, she was laying in a crumpled heap on the turf, blood splattered across her dress. All the air rushed from my lungs as a heavy sense of déjà vu washed over me.
Of course, how could I be so stupid? It was the vision I’d seen when Derek helped me, finally playing out in real life.
I let out a trembling breath, my chest feeling like it would collapse any second from the intense pressure. My mind went blank as Peter kneeled over her body, blood dripping down his face. His eyes, still red, slowly swept up to meet mine.
“Well, they don’t usually run toward me, but I’ll take it.” He muttered lowly, an amused smirk twitching at his lips.
My eyes were still locked onto Lydia’s unconscious frame beneath him. Her new dress was ripped, the red stain at her hip growing alarmingly fast. My heart clenched painfully and tumbled down into my stomach at the sight.
I was too late.
Peter took his time standing to his full height. I could feel his intense gaze on me, watching me closely, but I couldn’t look away from Lydia. She was so…broken. A wave of nausea washed over me and I forced my eyes to meet his.
My vision blurred as I tried desperately to catch my breath. “Is she dead?”
My voice was barely above a hoarse whisper, my entire body trembling. It was from the overwhelming terror being this close to Peter initiated, but I wasn’t just scared. I was angry. I knew something was going to happen all day, and I ignored my instincts. I saw this very thing happen weeks ago, but did nothing. And now, Lydia might be dead. Because of me.
Peter hummed low in his throat, his eyes scanning me from head to toe before glancing down at her fleetingly. “Not at the moment.”
A few tears escaped down my cheeks as I tore my gaze away from him to look at her again. I wasn’t even sure if she was breathing. If she was still alive, it was just barely.
My panic only rose as I thought about how unlikely it was that I’d get out of this situation in time to bring her to a hospital. Her chances of survival were dropping by the second. And mine too, probably.
“Tell me, Y/N, what do you see in my future?” Peter look a slow step toward me, and I stumbled back to keep some distance between us.
My eyes jerked up to his as I stiffened, a shiver wracking my body as I became more aware of the freezing temperature. “How do you know about that?”
The earth crunched beneath his shoes as he stalked toward me. I stood impossibly still, knowing I wouldn’t be able to escape him. He didn’t stop until he loomed only inches away.
“How does anyone know anything?” He murmured hoarsely into my ear, and I recoiled back, my stomach clenching painfully in disgust. My eyes pinched shut as one of his hands came up to brush a stray lock of hair away from my face. “You, my dear, would make a fantastic beta.”
My eyes jerked open again and I took a miniscule step away from him, my hands clenching into fists at my sides. “Trust me, I wouldn’t. I’ve been told I can be really annoying. I wouldn’t make a good beta. Or a good anything, really. I’m hardly a psychic. You should just keep searching because, you know, whatever it is you’re looking for…isn’t me.”
“Oh, I think I’m willing to take my chances.” Time seemed to slow as his eyes flashed bright red, his mouth opening wide to show his razor sharp canines.
I whipped around, ready to at least attempt running for my life, but instantly froze at the sight of Stiles barreling toward us.
“No!” I shouted frantically, my heart leaping into my throat with panic.
A strong arm wrapped around my stomach and wrenched me backward. I slammed against Peter’s chest, hard. The air was knocked out of my lungs from the force, just as a clawed hand snaked around my throat.
Stiles lurched to a stop in front of us, his dress shoes slipping on the damp turf. He flailed to the ground before popping back up instantly, his eyes wide with horror as they glanced down at Lydia before landing on me.
“Don’t kill her. Please.” His voice was trembling with desperation as he held a hand out toward us hesitantly.
The tips of Peter’s claws dug into my skin and I winced, tears now running freely down my face. I was terrified. For myself, Lydia, and now Stiles. Peter had killed many times before, and there was literally nothing stopping him now. Stiles’ eyes flickered to my neck, his jaw clenching tightly.
“Of course not. Just tell me how to find Derek.” Peter drawled, as if he wasn’t currently poised to do the opposite.
“W-what?” Stiles stammered, seemingly surprised by that request. His gaze was still firmly planted on Peter’s hand.
I felt a sharp stabbing at the base of my throat and my lips parted as a shuddering gasp escaped me. He was surely drawing blood at this point. Stiles’ eyes widened with alarm at the sight and his hand jerked toward us as if he were itching to intervene.
“Tell me how to find Derek Hale.” Peter leaned down, his warm breath fanning my shoulder. I tried jerking my head away, my heart lurching in my chest at his close proximity, but didn’t get far with his tight hold around me.
“I don’t know that! How would I know that?” Stiles’ voice rose to a frantic shout, his chest heaving as his glistening eyes finally moved up to Peter.
“You’re the clever one, aren’t you? And because deception has a very particularly accurate scent, Stiles. Tell me the truth. Or I will rip her apart.”
As if to prove the validity behind his words, his hand tightened around my throat. I instantly started pulling at his fingers as I felt my airway closing. My lips parted in a silent gasp, my lungs spasming painfully as I tried to force a breath in.
“Look. I don’t know! Okay?” Stiles rushed the words out in a complete panic, his eyes darting between Peter and my neck. Tiny black spots dotted my vision as I felt myself growing faint. “I swear—I swear to God I have no idea!”
Peter hummed low in his throat, his chest vibrating against my back. “Wrong again.”
Everything that happened next must’ve taken place in only a few seconds, but they seemed to drag on and on. Peter’s head jerked down to my left shoulder, his teeth digging into my skin easily. A scream tore through my throat as he finally released it, my vision blurring as unbearable pain rippled along my upper body.
Stiles face crumbled in utter horror and he lunged toward me just as Peter’s arms disappeared. I tried gasping for breath as I sagged to the ground, but my body just wasn’t cooperating. It felt like Stiles caught me, but I couldn’t be sure as I lost all feeling in my limbs.
Then, everything went black.
                                                    ————————
I stirred, already wincing in pain as I slowly regained consciousness. A high pitched droning was the only sound in my otherwise quiet surroundings. My eyes fluttered open and instantly squinted against the harsh fluorescent lights above me.
Everything felt heavy. I sluggishly started turning my head away from the lights, but jerked to a stop as searing pain radiated from my shoulder. My face fell into a grimace as a pitiful groan escaped my lips.
Something shuffled at the foot of my bed and I froze. My heart jumped in my chest with panic. Memories of Peter came flooding back all at once, and I started trembling with fear at the unknown presence.
Stiles jerked upright, appearing at my side a split second later. I let out a small sigh of relief, wincing as my lungs angrily protested each breath I took. My body began relaxing as I realized I was safe.
“Oh my God! Y/N!” He practically yelled in my face as he leaned down over me. “Are you okay? Wait, that’s a stupid question. How are you feeling? Does it hurt?”
One of his hands disappeared beneath the thin mesh blanket covering my body and he pulled out a hallow cord with a small switch in the middle. “If it hurts you can push this button as much as you want and I won’t tell. You’ll be higher than a kite, but—”
“Stiles.” My voice was barely above a hoarse whisper as I interrupted his frantic rambling. “I feel okay. Just tired.”
Truthfully, I hadn’t been awake long enough to know how I felt. I’d gathered that I was in the hospital, but obviously didn’t know much else. My entire left side hurt like hell.
My eyes trailed over Stiles quickly, noting that he was still wearing his clothes from the dance. His white button up was stained with blood and dirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His black jacket had been discarded on a table by the door.
Maybe it hadn’t been long, then?
“Seriously?” He sagged down into the chair that sat beside my bed, his eyes widening in surprise. “You were asleep for almost thirty hours.”
“I was what?” I planted my hands on either side of my hips and pushed myself up, ignoring the pain that ripped through my shoulder at the movement.
How the hell had I been out that long? That meant it was already Sunday, although probably somewhere around midnight. Too many panicked thoughts invaded my mind at once to make sense out of any one of them.
Stiles bolted back to his feet and pushed me against the bed with a disapproving glare. “It was actually twenty eight hours, forty seven minutes, and sixteen seconds, if that makes you feel better.”
“You know what, somehow it does.” I huffed sarcastically with a roll of my eyes, wiggling around on the hard mattress in an effort to get comfortable again.
Stiles twitched his eyes at me while he sat back down apprehensively, as if not trusting me to stay put. He brought a hand up to rub at the back of his neck as he glanced down to my injured shoulder. “I’m so sorry, Y/N…”
“For what?” My brows furrowed in confusion. I really had no idea why he would be apologizing. There was definitely a list of people that should feel bad right now, but he wasn’t one of them.
“I should’ve listened. If I’d just told him what he wanted…” He let out a heavy sigh and rested his elbows onto his knees before dropping his head into his hands.
I reached out and took one of his hands in mine, rubbing my fingers across his skin soothingly as he looked up at me cautiously. He had no reason to blame himself. Peter had already proven time and time again that he’s literally insane, and I’d made the stupid decision to run toward him mid-attack. I had a feeling he would’ve bitten me either way, regardless of anything Stiles did.
“It’s not your fault.” His lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes glistening with a slew of intense emotions.
I didn’t even have time to start deciphering them before he sat forward in his chair, his face hardening with determination. “I should’ve brought this up before I had to watch you almost die, but…you’re not—you know, how you are with me…with any other guys, right?”
His voice was timid as he struggled to stutter out the words. My heart swelled in my chest as my lips pulled up into a small smile. That was the most adorable, perfect, Stiles way of phrasing that question. For a moment, I forgot about all my worries.
“Stilinski, are you asking me to be your girlfriend?”
His eyes twitched as he squeezed his fingers around mine minutely. “Only if you’re gonna say yes.”
I didn’t even have to think about it for a second.
“Of course I’m saying yes, you dork.” I let out a breathy giggle as a big grin took over his face.
His caramel eyes shined with happiness as he brought my hand against his mouth to place a gentle kiss on my fingers. It was about damn time we had that conversation. I honestly shouldn’t be surprised that it took us this long to make things official, considering how stubborn we both are. Regardless, it felt amazing to finally be able to call him my boyfriend.
My boyfriend, Stiles. It had a nice ring to it.
I only let myself relish the moment for a few more seconds before finally asking about the one thing I’d been dreading thinking about since waking up.
“How’s Lydia? Is she…?” I trailed off, not able to say the word out loud.
When I’d seen her last, she was only moments away from death. I was sure of it. If I’d been here this long from a bite to the shoulder, I couldn’t imagine the damage that had been done to her. My heart clenched with regret as I thought back to all the moments I could’ve done something differently that would’ve saved her.
Stiles winced beside me, hesitating for a long moment before answering in a quiet mumble. “She’s uh…missing.”
“Excuse me?” I instantly tried bolting upright at his words, my anxiety skyrocketing. Missing? How could she be missing?
He guided me back down gently with a hand on my uninjured shoulder, his eyes narrowing again in warning. “Yeah. She just kinda disappeared from her room this morning.”
It was like he could sense that I was about to try getting up again, as he peered down at me sternly and pressed his hand down more firmly. “My dad already has the entire department out searching. There’s nothing you can do.”
My mind was racing with anxious, jumbled thoughts. She could’ve been taken if no one was sitting by her bedside like Stiles had clearly done for me. Or, she could’ve run away. But why would she do that? She was in the hospital. Where she was safe and getting treatment. I guess, there was always a chance that she’d taken to the bite and shifted already…
I didn’t know what any of this meant for me. I could only assume at this point that I wasn’t a werewolf. I mean, my shoulder clearly hadn’t miraculously healed yet. I figured, if I were, it would’ve done so by now. I was just incredibly glad—and lucky—to be alive.
My eyes met Stiles’ as he leaned back in his chair and inspected me closely. He kept glancing toward the place where Peter had bitten me as he drummed his fingers against his lips. It was like he couldn’t tear his gaze away.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” I breathed, suddenly nervous. His anxious expression couldn’t mean anything good.
“There’s something I keep—something Derek said awhile ago that I can’t get out of my head.” He mumbled, his eyebrows furrowing in apprehension.
I looked at him expectantly, urging him to continue. He was seriously starting to freak me out.
“The bite—he said it either kills you…and I think we’re good on that one…”
I glowered at his poorly timed sarcasm as his eyes continued flickering between my own and my shoulder. He swallowed thickly, and I could practically see his heart racing as he let out a ragged sigh. He finally caught my gaze, twitching uncomfortably in his seat.
“Or it changes you.”
Well, shit.

Shape Shifted - part 2
Hi guys! This is the next part of the Stiles Sis Fic series based loosely (and even that is generous) off of season two episode two. For the rest of this series and more of my writing, click here.  Enjoy!
Tumblr media
You were starting to contemplate how you were going to explain what was about to happen to your father, when by some miracle he got called back into the station. Your relief was short-lived though as with every minute that passed, Isaac was struggling more and more. His senses were on overdrive, he felt every muscle in his body, and both his senses and emotions were heightened. He felt the fear of the hunters, the sadness of losing his dad, the anger at his dad for being in this position in the first place. But he also felt safe being with you and an overwhelming need to protect you, he was trying to channel into that and ignore everything else. What had you called it earlier? Finding an anchor. Maybe for now you could be his anchor.
“Isaac, you still with me?” you asked after he had zoned out for a minute.
“Yeah, sorry.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for, you’re doing great. I just wanted to check in, is there anything you need?”
“Just keep talking, it helps. Keeps me focused.”
So, you decided to catch him up on everything that had happened in your life since that fated night before school when Scott got bit. Before you could finish though, you were cut off by Isaac’s sudden shift in demeaner. His teeth were clenched, breaths forceful. He tensed up and was on the verge of losing control all together.
“Isaac,” you said cautiously.
“You have to go, I don’t want to hurt you!”
“Listen Isaac, this is the worst of it. Right here, right now, you just have to fight it out a little longer and it will all be over.”
“I can’t! Please go,” he struggled, all but growling.
“Isaac I’m not leaving, and you aren’t going to hurt me. You are the strongest person I know, you just need to focus on what it is that makes you human. Find an anchor. I believe in you, you can do this,” you reassured him, taking a step towards him.
Isaac recoiled away from you, afraid of what he might do. Deep down he could feel it, the bloodlust, he could hear your pulse, he could…  what were you doing?
He looked at your hand which had reached for his now clawed one. You gently took it in yours and carefully placed it over your heart. You were grounding him the way you used to do when he had panic attacks. He could feel your heart beat and the calming rise and fall of your chest.
“Hey, look at that,” you spoke.
Isaac looked up and realized for the first time that his claws and fangs had retracted. His senses were still heightened, but it was more manageable. He glanced at the clock, he had made it. Relieved, he pulled you into a tight hug and you let out a breath that you hadn’t even known you were holding.
“Congratulations on making it through your first full moon.”
The two of you didn’t say much else, electing instead to crawl in your bed and allow the exhaustion to take over.
Meanwhile:
When Scott and Stiles arrived at Scott’s house, the plan was for a quiet night in. That was at least before Allison called. Apparently, she overheard a conversation between her grandfather and her dad in which it was revealed that Isaac’s dad was killed by something supernatural, but not a werewolf. If that wasn’t bad enough, they were sending hunters to Isaac’s house, with the intention to put him out of his misery if he so much as looked at the full moon. On top of that, they were apparently suspicious of Lydia as well.
“We have to do something, if Isaac’s at his house Y/n’s there too,” Stiles realized.
“You’re right, but with the hunters there we can’t just show up or they’ll expect something,” Scott added.
“I’ll go,” Allison decided, “his father was just killed, so I can say I was just checking in on him as a friend. Besides, nobody knows that I know about him or their plans.”
“You are not going alone, it’s too dangerous,” Scott argued.
“I’m an Argent, they won’t do anything to me, besides, I can handle myself,” she reminded.
“They might not, but if this is Isaac’s first full moon, I’m not taking that risk. I’ll meet you there,” Scott decided, hanging up before she could object.
“I gotta go. See if you can sneak into the morgue or the station or something and get photos of what happened to Isaac’s father. After that maybe swing by and check on Lydia,” Scott instructed as he searched for a hoodie.
Before Stiles could say anything else, Scott was sprinting out the door and towards Isaac’s house. Careful not to be seen, he made it inside and was soon met by Allison. It was soon revealed that neither you or Isaac were there.
“Where should we check next?” Allison asked, “Scott?”
“I thought I could control this,” Scott struggled.
“It’s okay Scott, what do you need me to do?”
“You have to leave. I can’t - It’s not safe,” Scott said as his breathing began to speed up.
“I’m not leaving you Scott, there has to be something we can do,” Allison decided bravely.
After some thought, it was decided that Allison would lock him in the freezer. They same way Isaac’s dad had done to him on far too many occasions. She reluctantly tightened the chains around it before locking them. She had originally planned on staying by Scott’s side, but she heard noises coming from upstairs. She thought that maybe it could have been you and Isaac, so she cautiously made her way up.
But instead it was one of her father’s men who had come to take out Isaac. She knew that she had to keep him from going downstairs and discovering Scott at all costs, especially if he wasn’t fully in control.
Upon seeing her, the many questioned why she was here and where Isaac was. Before she could lie though, a lizard-like creature burst through the window. She screamed and raced forward to get a knife before backing herself into the corner. The creature didn’t even glance in her direction, its sole focus on the hunter before it. Before she or the other hunter could react, it swiped the back of the hunter’s neck and then brutally shoved its claws in his stomach and dragged them up through his chest. Allison screamed again at the gruesome sight, not prepared for the horrifying gurgling noises that followed.
In the basement, Scott was doing everything in his power to escape the freezer. He had never heard Allison scream like that and he knew that she was in danger. He could protect her if he could just get out! He furiously pounded at the lid until it finally popped open. Within seconds, he was upstairs standing between Allison and the…what is that thing?
But as soon as he arrived, the creature darted off into the night.
He didn’t even consider following and instead turned to Allison holding her arms as he looked for any sign of injury, “Are you alright? Did it hurt you?”
“No I’m fine. It didn’t touch me,” she said softly trying to ignore the shock of the whole situation. Scott pulled her into a tight hug for a moment before his eyes met the body and pool of blood that were mere feet away.
The scent of the blood was nauseating, and the smell of Allison’s fear was not much better. “We have to get out of here, before more hunters show up” Scott said leading his girlfriend away from it all.
Meanwhile:
Stiles had completely struck out at the police station. The case photos that he snuck in to get weren’t even in his dad’s office. And as he was trying to sneak out of the office, he was caught by one of the deputies. Lying on his feet was not a strong suit of Stiles’ and he was forced to sit there and wait until his dad came to collect him.
He was agitated as this was supposed to be a quick in and out so that he would still have time to check on Lydia. He pulled out his phone and debated whether or not to call you, he knew you were probably still mad at him, but he was both worried about you being alone with Isaac (especially with the hunters involved) and he knew that you would be far more likely to get a response from Lydia than he would.
He swallowed his pride and dialed your number only for it to go straight to voicemail. So either your phone was dead, you are ignoring him because your mad, or your in trouble. Great. He decided to call Scott next but once again, there was no answer. Feeling a growing sense of dread, he decided to call Allison, and then he realized that he still didn’t have her number.
Before he could call anyone else, his dad arrived with a disapproving look.
“You know that it is a crime to break in to the police station, in to the sheriff’s office, so do you wanna tell me what the hell you were thinking?”
Luckily for him, Stiles had been provided with enough time to think of a valid excuse, “Honestly, I was trying to figure out what you knew about Isaac’s dad’s case. Y/n and him are close and I wanted to see if there was anything that I could do to help.”
“You can help by being there for him, not by committing a felony and trying to get me fired,” your dad rolled his eyes.
“Do you know where Y/n is?” Stiles tried changing the subject.
“She is at the house with Isaac, where I am supposed to be to keep an eye on him as he is still technically a suspect in a murder investigation,” his dad sighed, Stiles had good intentions, though he always seemed to have a knack for putting his nose where it didn’t belong. “Come on, let’s go home, we’ll talk about this later.”
Stiles felt somewhat relieved, though he still didn’t like the idea of you being alone with Isaac. Then he realized that he needed to distract your guys’ dad so that he wouldn’t accidently find out about Isaac’s secret. However, that wasn’t a problem as he was soon called to a crime scene. Another murder. He told Stiles to go straight home, and then quickly left the station.
It was as Stiles got in Roscoe that Scott called him back. He briefly explained what had happened and what he saw of the creature. After Allison had calmed down, she went to Lydia’s so she would have an excuse for being away from home. At this point it was after midnight, and the power of the moon was starting to dwindle. Scott asked is Stiles had heard from you at all, and Stiles told him that he knew you and Isaac were at your house, to which he was headed now, but that your phone was off. Stiles also told Scott that he should go home and lay low, but he doubted his friend would actually listen.
When he pulled into the driveway he mentally braced himself for what he was going to find. His thoughts went back to Scott’s first full moon and his bloodthirst and complete lack of control. And that was Scott, he couldn’t even imagine what it would be like for someone like Isaac who had been through everything that he had been through. He made his way upstairs and hesitated momentarily outside your door. He took a deep breath and opened it, allowing the light from the hallway to flood in. He was slightly shocked to see that you Isaac were laying on your bed. There were no signs that anything out of the ordinary had happened.
The light woke you up and you squinted to see who opened your door. It was Stiles, you rolled your eyes debating whether you wanted to deal with him right now. As he started to close your door, you forced yourself out of bed careful not to disturb Isaac.
“Lydia was completely fine tonight,” you say from Stiles’ doorway startling him, “I figured you would want to know,” you turned away.
“Y/n,” he called after you, “I am sorry about earlier.”
“I know you are,” you said sincerely, “and it’s fine. We can talk tomorrow about what happened today and Isaac, and everything else.”
You decided to grab a glass of water before heading back to bed when you noticed that there was someone pacing outside your front door. You recognized Scott and stood there and watched him for a moment. It was weird, in all the time that the two of you had been friends, you couldn’t remember ever getting into an argument with him. You would be lying if you said his words hadn’t hurt you, but you reminded yourself that they weren’t truly his words. So you turned the lock on the door, “You know, you could have knocked, rung the doorbell, called, text, or even yelled instead of standing out here like a dork. Maybe my brother is starting to wear off on you,” you joke half-heartedly.
“Y/n I-” Scott started.
“You were dealing with the full moon, and said some things that you didn’t mean. But you are a high school student with the weight of the world on his shoulders and you didn’t ask for this. Every time you turn around it seems like there is one more obstacle between you and any chance that you have of living a normal life. It’s okay Scott, even you are allowed to have a bad day every once in a while.”
“That’s not an excuse, and I really am sorry.”
“Well, I accept your apology and later I promise to catch you up to speed on everything that happened. But its late and I’m exhausted.”
“Are you sure we’re okay?” Scott asked, confused at how you could possibly not be mad at him.
“We’re good, I promise. Now come inside and get some rest, you can have your choice of Stiles’ room or the couch,” you said, grabbing him some blankets.
As Scott laid down on your couch, he started to think. Maybe Isaac being a werewolf would be manageable, after all the two of you were close and Scott knew that would work in your favor later on. Derek had to stop though, with the hunters on high-alert this was the worst possible time to be converting innocent teens into werewolves. His thoughts then drifted to that creature he saw and how scarred Allison was. One thing was for sure, tomorrow was going to be a long day.

Scott had told us last night what happened to him. Peter and Derek had gone to the changing rooms, searching for him. Peter had shown him what happened to the Hale family. It was a truly sad story. Stiles told him what happened in the hospital, including what I did. But he hadn’t told him that while Peter was showing him his past, I was shaking in Stiles’s bedroom while he searched what creature I could be.
“What’s up?” Stiles stopped the jeep next to Jackson and his car. He was accompanied by Chris Argent, someone who looked like an asshole. He was.
“Is everything okay?”
“Hey, Scott. Your friend, here, was having car trouble. We’re just taking a look.” He replied with a smile on his face. His blue eyes weren’t warm, they were cold, transmitting uneasiness.

Mom and Dad stared at me quietly for what felt like hours after I finished telling them everything. I swallowed thickly, unsure how to interpret their reactions.
“You’re telling me…your best friend is a werewolf and Jackson is a Kanima…who’s killing people?” Dad asked, leaning his elbows onto his spread knees.

I'm running through the woods towards my old house in New Jersey. My vision is shaky, as is my breath. No matter how fast I try to run, it feels like I'm running in slow motion with thousand pound weights around my ankles the whole time. I finally reach the house, but I'm too late. All the windows are shattered. Doors and cabinets are ripped off the hinges and broken dishes and framed family photos are riddled all over the floor. Claw marks on the walls and the railing of the stairs is completely splintered off and there was blood everywhere.
"Mom?" I call out, my voice breaking.
No answer. My shaky legs carry me straight into the kitchen.
"Momma?" I call out again, tears threatening to leave my eyes.
I step into the doorway and see my mother's lifeless body on the ground. A gaping slash to her throat. Her stomach, now just a gaping hole in the middle of her body with nothing inside anymore. I start to feel sick, like I'm going to throw up. I run my hands through my hair, panicked, then run to her.
"Momma!" I cry out as I hold her, blood soaking into my pajamas.
I hold her close and sob. "I'm sorry, Momma! I'm so sorry!" I cry repeatedly.
"This is all your fault, you know." A familiar, yet monotone voice tells me.
I look up and see Stiles, standing there with an emotionless face. I gently lay her body back down, stand up and start to approach him.
"Stiles…" he walks away.
I start to follow him as he walks out the front door. I start to jog to catch up with him, leading into a run until I'm back outside and he is now nowhere in sight. I look around and call for him.
"Stiles? Stiles, wait! I need to explain!" I call out.
"Stiles! I'm not what you think I am! Please talk to me!" I continue, tears building up again.
I turn around to face the front door. As soon as I'm fully facing the door, the Alpha runs towards me, lunges, mouth full of razor sharp teeth, dripping with blood, snapped open. Claws aiming for my throat as I scream a blood curdling scream while his claws dig into my throat, making it bleed heavily.
My eyes are squeezed shut and I'm still screaming, sweat dripping down my face, making my hair stick to my forehead and face as I shoot straight up in bed, holding my neck. My dad bursts in and runs over to me. He sits on the edge, facing me, taking my hands off my neck, noticing my claws are retracted out, cutting into the layers of skin on my neck and drawing blood. My fangs showing as I scream and my skin paled over.
I'm shaking my head, crying so hard that my father can't understand what I'm saying. "Momma's dead! I killed her! I killed Momma!"
He lets go of my wrists and grabs my face in his hands. "Charli. Charli, honey, look at me." He tells me calmly.
I squeeze my eyes tighter and continue to mumble through tears, though I'm sure he can hear me this time. "I killed her. Momma's dead 'cause of me…"
"Charli, please look at me." He insists firmly, pushing my hair out of my face.
I finally look up at him through red eyes swollen from crying. I sniffle and lick my lips. He looks me in my eyes with an intense look.
"Listen to me. It was a nightmare, okay? Now, what happened to your mother was not your fault. You were vulnerable and he took advantage of that. I know you would never hurt anyone." He tells me as he continues to look into my eyes.
"You're an amazing kid with a huge heart, Charli. Not a single soul blames you for any of it." He continues, letting go of my face.
"The Council did…" I mutter, looking down, watching my claws slowly retract back to normal.
"The Council are a bunch of fucking dust bags who want me dethroned. They'll say anything to make that happen." He tells me dryly.
I chuckle quietly as I play with the loose string on my comforter. He tucks my hair behind my ear and smiles at me half heartedly. "Charli, I understand why you feel that it's your fault. Sometimes I feel like it's my fault too. When people are dealing with loss, they sometimes blame themselves to make sense of things."
He pulls me into his chest and wraps his arms around me. I wrap my arms around him and hug tight. "I miss her too, honey. Everyday."
"What about Scar--" I'm about to ask looking up at him, then he cuts me off.
"That was not what you think it was. I promise I'll explain it to you, but right now…" he lets go of me and stands up, tucking me in like he used to when I was little. "... I want you to try and get back to sleep."
I settle into bed under the covers. He pushes my hair out the way and kisses my forehead. "You go back to school tomorrow so you need to be well rested."
He heads towards the door, looks back to me as he grabs the doorknob. "Goodnight, kiddo. I love you."
"Love you too, Dad." I tell him back sleepily.
.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·
I wake up and get ready for school. After brushing my teeth and changing the gauze on my head, I put on a red beanie to cover my bandages. I throw on my Marvel sweatshirt and ripped jeans and grab my red vans and clumsily put them on as I'm making my way out the front door and to my car.
I get to school and head straight to the bathroom before anyone can see me and check my gauze. Once I realize I'm no longer bleeding, I throw it away and put my beanie back on. As I finish adjusting it, I see two girls walk into the bathroom through my peripheral vision and watch as they walk up to the mirrors as I finish adjusting my hat.
"Can you believe there was an attack at the school Wednesday night?" The pretty blonde girl questioned her redheaded friend as she put on some lip gloss.
"I know! Six students were there too, and one was apparently injured!" The redhead stated as she applied her mascara.
"It's a shame that that Derek Hale guy is some psycho serial killer… he's pretty hot." The blonde stated, fixing her hair.
"Right? Why is it always the hot ones who are fucking psychos?" Her friend added, making both of them giggle. Are these chicks for real????
"You know someone died right?" I insert, getting their attention. "A man lost his life last night and literally all you can talk about is how hot the murderer was?"
They just stare at me with dead eyes. I pinch the bridge of my nose and just shake my head before turning my attention back to them.
"You two are unbelievable. I guarantee that if you two were alive during the Ted Bundy era that y'all would've thought he was hot too, right?" They stay quiet.
"How about for once you quit worrying about yours and everyone's looks and just, oh I don't know, use the little bit of common sense that I pray you actually have?" They just drop their jaws. I quickly pick my backpack up off the counter where I had it setting, flung it over my shoulder and just walked out of the bathroom.
I head straight for Mr. Harris's class so I can get this stupid test over with. I sit in the back corner and get ready for the test. I can see Stiles on the opposite side of the room in the back as well. He looks over at me and waves, smiling. I just give him a weak wave and smile in return. Then I turn forward and see Allison walk in, we make eye contact for a moment and just silently nod at each other before she sits down. I take a few minutes to prepare myself for the test when I see Scott approach Allison and Mr. Harris quickly step in. Scott, please don't do this. Don't try to make her feel bad…
The test starts, I am flying through the test and am almost done, until I notice Scott acting weird. Oh crap… Must be a full moon coming…
He quickly jumps up and leaves, then Stiles follows right along. Normally I would follow them to see what's happening, but today… today I just wanna take my test, get through my classes and go home. I'm over all the supernatural bullshit already. I finish my test first and go to hand it in to Mr. Harris. "No surprise you'd be done first Miss Vérszívó. Did you want to go check on your friends? I know you're all very close." He asks.
"No… I-I just wanna have a normal day." I inform him. He just nods and signals for me to take my seat.
I go and sit back at my desk, cross my arms over the top and lay my head down, waiting for the bell to ring. As soon I hear the bell, I grab my backpack and nearly sprint out of the classroom.
.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·
I step into the hallway after my AP Trigonometry class and see Isaac at his locker. When I smile and wave at him, he barely makes eye contact with me and goes back to getting some books from his locker. What's wrong? He's usually so happy to see me…
I approach him. "Hey. Haven't seen you all week, where've you been?" I ask casually as I tug my sleeves over my hands nervously.
"Busy." He mumbles.
"Oh… okay, well if you're not busy this weekend, did you wanna go grab a pizza and come watch movies at my house?" I ask.
"Not really." He mumbles again.
Oh no. He's mad at me… what did I do? "Hey…" I put a gentle hand on his forearm, "are you okay?" I ask concerned.
"Well, besides the fact that my girlfriend forgot our movie date because she ran off and almost got herself killed with two guys that see her more than I do, I'm great." He exclaims sarcastically, slamming his locker shut and putting his book bag over his shoulder.
"Oh shit…" I sigh as I put my hands over my face in shame. "Isaac, I--I am so, so sorry." He rolls his eyes and starts walking away and I quickly follow behind.
"You're always sorry, Charli. Every time we make plans, something always comes up with Scott or Stiles and you always rush off to help them." He answers back bitterly.
"Isaac, they're my friends, I can't just abandon them when they need me." I explained. He stops quickly and turns towards me.
"And what about me, Charli? In what order do I come?" He asked with a sadness in his eyes.
I take a deep breath and compose myself. "Isaac, you mean a lot to me…" I start to explain.
"Just not as much as Scott or Stiles though, right?" He asks bitterly.
"It's… complicated." I answer with reluctance.
Isaac scoffs and shakes his head. "Yeah? Well then call me when it's not." He walks off, leaving me standing in the hallway alone with onlookers staring and whispering to each other.
I look down at the ground and speed walk to an empty classroom. I slam the door behind me, put my back against the wall and slide down as I start to cry.
It hasn't even been two months and I'm already fucking up my first real relationship. I want to tell Isaac the truth, but I can't because he'd just think I'm insane. He'll think I belong in a mental institution if I tell him I'm a fucking vampire and that Scott and Derek  are werewolves and that there are hunters and some psycho Alpha trying to recruit Scott.
Shit, even I think I sound absolutely insane. I just continue to cry into my knees. I must've been loud because I suddenly hear footsteps coming up beside me. I didn't even realize how long I've been there because when I looked up, I see Scott standing there in his lacrosse uniform. I quickly wipe my eyes and stand up. "Oh! Scott, h-hey. I uh, I didn't hear you come in." I explain as I sniffle and wipe my tears.
"Are you okay?" He asks in a low voice.
"Yeah, no. Yeah, I'm-I'm fine. I just uh… just having boy problems." I chuckle nervously while fidgeting with my hands.
"With Isaac?" He asks quietly.
"Yeah." I sigh, putting my head down. There's a moment of complete silence.
"It's my fault though. I haven't really been that great of a girlfriend to be honest. I get why he would be upset about me hanging out with you and Stiles a lot."
"So he's jealous?" Scott asks, moving closer to me.
"I mean, I guess that's what you'd call it. I think he just might be more uncomfortable than anythi-" he cuts me off by kissing me.
I quickly push him off and punch him square in the nose. His heads whips back and he's holding his nose. He leans his head forward and I can see the blood dripping from his nose, into his hand and onto the floor.
"What the fuck, Scott?" I scold him. "You're supposed to be my friend, not some sick fuckin creeper!" I continue.
My eyes well up again and Scott just winces in pain, meanwhile the smell of his blood is getting stronger. Y'know what, forget it, I'm outta here!" I declare, gripping the strap to my backpack and stomping out of the room.
I slam the door shut and just head straight to my car. I get in, throw my backpack onto the passenger seat, and sit in silence for a moment until the tears just start to flow. I rest my hands on the sides of the steering wheel and rest my head on it and just bawl. All I can hear is the sound of myself crying. I sit there for a good twenty minutes, just crying until I hear the buzzing of my phone. I start wiping my eyes and check to see who it is. I see the same goofy picture of me, Stiles and Scott popping up on my phone with Stiles' name above it anytime he calls.
I quickly pull myself together and answer. "Hey, what's up?"
"Hey, where are you? Practice is about to start and I'm gonna be on first line!" He asks excitedly.
"Wow, that's… that's awesome, Stiles! I'm really happy for you." I tell him, trying my best to sound excited.
"Are you okay? You don't sound like yourself." He points out, clearly concerned.
"I'll uh, I'll-I'll tell you later. Right now, let's focus on you. First line? That's a huge deal. I'm still in the parking lot so I'll come watch you practice." I change subject.
"You don't have to, Charli. I don't wanna make you feel like you have to come to practice." He insists gently.
"What, and miss you being first line? No way! I'll be right there." I hang up, quickly pull myself together and head over to the lacrosse field.
I take my usual seat in the bleachers, scanning the field for Stiles when I see him sitting on the bench. He must be looking for me too because I see him scanning the bleachers until he spots me. I give him a big smile and wave, and he returns the smile and waves back. When he turns back around, Scott is just arriving. The moment I see him, I get chills up my spine and immediately start to feel uncomfortable. I try not to look his way in case he was to say anything. But in my peripheral vision, he seems awkward. Almost guilty.
Stiles leans over and says something to him, but he doesn't seem fully there. Doesn't matter to me, I just don't wanna deal with him again. At this point, I'm no longer friends with Scott…
As practice ensues, it seems like I'm not the only one who's pissed off at Scott. Some of the older teammates seem to be being rougher than normal with him. Two of them knocking him down, which clearly pissed him off even more. Once he got up, it was game on. He got rough right back.
"Yes! That's right! You gotta earn it McCall!" Couch eggs on.
He knocks all of them down to make it to the goal. He even hits Danny… Danny hasn't done shit and due to his whole werewolf bullshit, he's trying to prove himself and actually hurts Danny. Making everyone stop and run to him as he lies there on the field. Even I rise to my feet to check on Danny's wellbeing. Before I know it, Lydia runs onto the field. Oh God, what's she doing?
After a quick exchange with Jackson, I see her pull out her compact and notice the look on Stiles' face completely change from worry, to absolute shock. Immediately I know… I know I wasn't the only girl that Scott reached out to today. I actually feel...angry. No, not angry. I feel pissed the fuck off. Why would Scott do this to his friends? Is this whole werewolf thing turning him into an asshole? Or is he really that hurt by Allison that he actually doesn't care about anyone or anything anymore?
.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·
I wait for Stiles to finish up in the locker room so we can walk to our cars together. Once he comes out, I just cross my arms over my chest and look down as I walk.
"Okay, so what happened?" He asks without skipping a beat.
I just sigh and stop walking and turn towards him.
"Did something happen?" He asks, this time with concern in his voice. I look up at him and nod. "What happened, Charli? You know you can tell me." He reassures me.
My eyes start tearing up again, "I think Scott tried to force himself on me."
"What? When?" He asked, completely shocked.
"Before lacrosse. I was in a classroom…" I stop mid sentence because I don't wanna tell him about Isaac. I think of a quick lie.
"I was in a classroom, trying to get some studying in before practice when he found me." I lie.
I wipe a couple of tears away and continue. "He was asking me about some stuff with Isaac and then out of nowhere, he kisses me." Stiles runs a hand over his buzzed hair and just has a look of total disbelief over his face.
"Then I panicked and I…" I stop and look down, shuffling my feet.
"Then what happened, Charli?" He asked calmly.
"... I punched him." I answer back.
Stiles is just silent for a while. I start crying again and he just pulls me into a hug. I wrap my arms under his pits in an embrace. He has one arm wrapped around my back, the other hand placed on the back of the nape of my neck. He just holds me while I bawl. He doesn't let go until I finally pull away slightly.
I then let go of him completely. I cross my arms over my chest again, trying to almost hug myself. He takes a moment to think, then speaks up. "I'm gonna get back at him."
"How?" I ask, curious on what the wheels in his head were turning about.
"Come to Scott's house tonight with me. You'll see exactly what I'm gonna do." He states. "And if he tries anything again, I got it." He adds.
I think for just a moment, then I nod my head in agreement. "Okay, I'll be there." I answer.
"Great. But you'll have to climb through Scott's window cuz I don't think his mom would be cool with a girl staying overnight." He informs me.
I shrug. "Fair enough. Just text me when it's safe to do so."
He nods in agreement and we walk to our cars and head home to pack.

I sit in my car on Scott's street, waiting for Stiles to text me  when it's okay to start climbing. My phone dings with a text alert.
Stiles: when Melissa's car leaves, head 2 the back of the house and start climbing
I text back.
Charli: kk
I watch for her car. As soon as I see her little black car pull out. I throw my door open and head straight for the house. I go to the back of the house and start climbing the tree next to the house. I jump from the tree to the roof and walk across the roof to Scott's window where I see Stiles digging through a duffle bag. I knock, making him jump. He then comes to the window and helps me inside.
Once I'm inside, he closes the window and I brush any dirt  off my clothes. I look up and immediately make eye contact with Scott, who looks absolutely petrifying right now just sitting in his chair, staring at me.
"Charli." He greets monotoned.
"Scott." I reply back, trying to sound unbothered but my voice is clearly very shaky.
There's an awkward silence between us until Stiles clears his throat, interjecting.
"Okay, well let's get this set up. Lemme show you guys what I bought-" Stiles tells us, until Scott cuts him off.
"I'm fine." Bullshit.
"What?" I ask.
"I'm gonna lock the door and go to bed early tonight." Scott states, still monotone with this crazy look in his eye.
"You sure about that? Cuz you got this kinda… serial killer look goin' on in your eyes and I'm hoping it's the full moon taking effect cuz it's really starting to freak me out." Stiles yips back with a shaky voice.
"I'm fine. You two should go now." Scott replied, more stern.
"Alright, fine. We'll leave." I answer back, standing up and heading towards the door.
"Well would you at least look in the bag and see what I bought? Maybe you use it, maybe you don't. Sound good?" Stiles insists.
Scott slowly gets up from the chair and walks over to the duffle bag. He gets on his knees and reaches inside. He pulls out a handful of chains and continues to stare Stiles down with his serial killer look.
"You think I'm gonna let you chain me up like a dog?" He asks in an intimidating tone.
"Actually, no." Stiles answers nonchalantly.
He quickly grabs Scott's wrist and handcuffs it, then handcuffs him to the radiator. Scott struggles, trying to pull it off.
"What the hell are you doing?" Scott yells as he continues to struggle.
"Protecting you from yourself… and getting a little payback…." Stiles informs him.
"...for forcing yourself onto Charli…" he adds.
.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·
I'm sitting on Scott's living room floor at the coffee table, using a permanent marker to write Scott's name on a white dog bowl in a cool font. Stiles comes from the kitchen with a water bottle.
"Almost done with your masterpiece, Di Vinci?" Stiles jokes.
I look at him and chuckle. "Almost." I draw out as I finish on the last T in Scott's name. "Perfect! Here you go!" I hand the bowl to Stiles with a proud smile on my face.
He examines it. "Check you out! Aren't you just a natural artist?" He flatters, making me blush.
I cap the marker and get up from the floor to follow him upstairs. "You sure you're up for this?" Stiles asks.
I let out a calming sigh and nod my head. We head upstairs and I stand in the doorway as Stiles enters Scott's room.
"I brought you some water." He informs him, holding up the bottle. He then proceeds to lift the bowl to show Scott the name I scrawled across it and pours the water into the bowl and places it in front of him.
"I'm gonna kill you!" Scott screams as he throws the water bowl.
Stiles stops dead in his tracks and turns back around to face him.
"You kissed her, Scott. Okay? You kissed Charli. That's my- the one girl that I- y'know I've been thinking for the past three hours that it's just the full moon, y'know? He doesn't even know what he's doing. Tomorrow he'll be back to normal. He won't even remember what a complete dumbass he's been. A son of a bitch, a fucking, unbelievable, piece of shit friend!" Stiles tore into him.
"She kissed me." Scott muttered.
"What did you just say?" I asked harshly, stomping into the room next to Stiles.
"I didn't kiss you. You kissed me." He answered back smuggly.
I start balling my fists when Stiles suddenly picks me up and carries me out of the room before Scott starts talking again.
"You would've done a lot more too. Once you got your hands all over me, you would've done anything I wanted." He continued.
Stiles held me back from not attacking Scott right then in there, but he could tell… he could tell that I was ready to choose violence. But I knew he wasn't going to be able to hold me back for long…
 "Anything!" He screamed.
I slipped out of Stiles' hold and ran into the room and started wailing on Scott. I was punching him, and even kicked him as tears streamed down my face and was screaming at him. "You fucking liar! I'm gonna fucking kill you!"
Stiles ran back in and tried to pull me off of Scott, but I wouldn't budge. Not until he got between us and lifted me over his shoulder while I had a handful of Scott's hair in my hand and was still punching him. Stiles got me to let go before he got me out of the room as I cursed out Scott in Hungarian.
"Charli, Charli, Charli, hey! Relax!" Stiles tried to calm me.
"Relax, are you fucking kidding me? Did you not hear him in there?" I argue.
"Stiles, I would never do that! Especially if I'm in a relationship!" I insist, still crying.
"I know you wouldn't. I know."
"Then why did you stop me?" I asked, my eyes still filled with tears.
"Because I know you. Because I know what kind of person you are…" Stiles answers calmly.
I just look at him. "You are probably one of the most loyal people I've ever met in my life, Charli. Look how loyal you've been to this friendship." He stated.
"All the times you've defended us and protected us and stood up for us. I know that that's the real you, not this bullshit that Scott's trying to spread right now." He adds, motioning towards Scott's room when he mentions Scott.
"And I stopped you because I knew you'd severely hurt him if you continued. You're a lot stronger than you look and I wholeheartedly believe that you would've been able to kill him." He adds.
"You think I'm capable of murder?" Oh fuck! My biggest fear is coming true.
"I think you could if you really wanted to, but to just flat out do it? No way. You're strong, but not a killer." He admits.
.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·.·
As Stiles and I sit outside Scott's room, we can hear the rattling of the handcuffs against the radiator and him straining to and struggling to get out of them.
I can see the look on Stiles' face and can tell that this is hard for him and that what Scott did hurt him. I rest a comforting hand on his forearm, making him look at me. He half smiles and takes my hand in his and we both just rest our backs against the wall again.
"Stiles? Charli? Please let me out…" Scott begs weakly. "... it's not me, it's the full moon, I swear." He adds.
Stiles' face looks exasperated, so I just squeeze his hand to reassure that we can do this.  "Charli, you know I wouldn't do any of this on purpose…" Scott continues his guilt trip.
I take a deep breath and close my eyes, trying not to cry. Stiles must've noticed my frustration because he gave my hand a gentle, comforting squeeze, making me look at him then rest my head on his shoulder.
"Please guys, let me out. It's starting to hurt. It's not like the first time." Scott insists. "It's the full moon. It's Allison breaking up with me. I know, and it's not just taking a break… she broke up with me."
Stiles looks at me, I just shake my head because I know what he's thinking. I know he wants to let him out, but he has to be strong.
"It's killing me. I feel defeated, hopeless… Please just let me out. I can't…" Scott trails off.
Suddenly we hear the rattling of the handcuffs against the radiator again. Scott straining to slide out of them. This time, he screams in pain. Stiles and I cover our ears, but I can still hear him as clear as day. He continues to scream and struggle with the handcuffs until I hear growling and then… silence.
"Scott, are you okay?" Stiles asks as we remove our hands from our ears.
"Scott?" I call out.
We stand up and open the door. There, on the floor, are the handcuffs and spots of blood on the floor and see some spatter on the radiator and see the fully opened window. We look at each other and bolt out of the room and head straight for Roscoe. We climb in and head off to look for Scott.
Driving down the road, I get a glimpse of the full moon when a sudden sharp shooting pain goes to my head. I wince and hold my head. Stiles looks over at me while also trying to pay attention to the road. "You okay?" He asks, concerned.
"Y-yeah. Just a…just a headache." I answer.
The pain intensifies and I wince again, holding my head again. I suddenly feel a tingle in my fingertips and a stabbing feeling in my mouth. My mouth starts to water and I feel… hungry. What the hell is happening to me?????
"Stop the car…" I growl.
"What?"
"I said… stop the car!" I reply louder. He quickly pulls over and I throw the car door open before he comes to a complete stop.
Stiles gets out and gets ready to follow me. "Stay back, Stiles! I'm gonna be sick!"
He stops dead in his tracks and calls out, "Do you need a doctor?"
"No, give me just five minutes!" I call back, straining.
I run far into the woods, looking for something to curb my appetite. My claws out, fangs out, eyes glowing. I stop and listen intently, hearing something running. Suddenly a deer runs past me. I chase after it. Catching up quicker than what my dad would and get a hold of its antlers and drag it to the ground with a grunt and a slide into the dirt. I sit on him and hold him down and bite into him. I drink enough of his blood to conquer my hunger without killing the deer. I let him go, he gets up with wobbly legs and walks in a circle before it catches its balance and runs off. I wipe my mouth and head back over to Stiles. He's leaning against his Jeep with his hands in his pockets, waiting on me. He instantly straightens up when he sees me.
"Are you okay?" He asks, worried.
"Yeah… guess this full moon is making everyone a little crazy." I admit.
"What happened to your pants?" He asks, pointing at my dirt covered leg.
I look down at it and make up a quick lie. "I slid down a hill while running."
"You okay now, though? You don't think it has anything to do with your head injury?" He wonders aloud.
"Maybe…" I answer back unsure. "...we should probably go back to looking for Scott." I add.
He nods and we both get back into Roscoe. We drive for a while, both of us tense from stress of the full moon, Scott being missing, and me hiding almost everything about myself from Stiles, until we pull up on an emergency scene. Ambulances, police cars, a whole crowd of emergency workers. Stiles comes to an abrupt stop and gets out. I get out and follow him. "Dad?" He calls out.
"Stiles, wait up!" I holler to him.
"Dad?" He calls out again as he turns an officer around, realizing it's his dad.
"Has-has anyone seen my dad?" He calls out, concerned.
I catch up with him as he looks at the gurney with a hand hanging out from the sheet.
"Stiles?" We hear a familiar voice call out.
"Charli? What are you guys doing here?" He asks us, clearly confused and worried.
Stiles breathes a sigh of relief and runs to his dad and hugs him tight. I just stand and give them some space. As they talk, I notice a familiar SUV, just sitting by the Jeep. I recognize the man in the driver seat as Allison's dad, but I don't recognize the woman. However, I notice she's blonde. That might be the same blonde lady that Scott was talking about…
"Hey, uh, Sheriff?" I get Noah's attention. "Who's that?" I ask, pointing at the SUV.
Him and Stiles look over at the red SUV that continues to sit next to Roscoe. Stiles raises an eyebrow to them as Noah walks over to them. He talks to them for only a moment, then they drive off. He comes back over to us as they stare Stiles and I down. What do they know?
"That was your guys' friend, Allison's dad and aunt. They happened to be driving by and saw you two plus all the emergency vehicles and wanted to see if they could be of assistance." Noah informs us.
"Well, what did you tell them?" I ask, shakily.
"I told them thanks for the help, but as the Sheriff, I have it under control." He answered.
Stiles and I just look at each other, then back to the direction the Argents drove off in…

"We are talking about tools and carpentry, about words and style... but as we move along, you'd do well to remember that we are also talking about magic." - Stephen King, On Writing
---
There were fine lines drawn in the sand when two friends broke up - or, sorry, “took a break” - and no line was finer than that of family. And none more fragile than the ones drawn in high school.
Penelope waited outside for Allison. The school had been closed Thursday and Friday and then it was the weekend, and while it was nice to get a long break from school, it just made her all the more nervous to go back.
She had spent most of her time with Allison, Scott just moped about his room until Stiles came and dragged him out for a ‘guys night’ that involved Stiles getting absolutely wasted, and Scott having to walk home. It was nothing new to be left in the dust while Scott and Stiles galivanted around, she was just glad she now had somewhere to go other than her bedroom.
Penny watched Mr. Argent’s red SUV pull up to the school, but Allison didn’t get out right away. She complained to Penny all weekend about how strict and crazy her dad was being since the lock in, and while she couldn’t blame him, some of his rules were borderline nutty. She was honestly surprised that the Argent’s hadn't locked her up in a basement somewhere.
When Allison did finally exit the vehicle she smiled at her friend and they made their way to homeroom.
“Have you talked to Stiles yet?” Allison said, digging something out of her backpack while they walked.
“Yeah, he drove me to school this morning.” Penny replied.
“Yes but have you talked talked?”
“I don’t know what that means.” Penny said, her brows creasing in the middle.
“About how you feel.” Her friend stated, giving an eye roll.
“I feel no things.”
Penny was beginning to understand that statement was a load of crap but that didn’t mean she had to admit it to anyone. Stiles was just a friend, and that was alright.
“You feel things… don’t lie to me!” Allison said. Penny just walked away, leaving her friend at the doorway to her own home room.
After first period Penny met up with Lydia and Allison in the hallways, having plenty of time to think of a rational argument about why she did not have those feelings for her best friend and how dare Allison think something like that for even a second. But the subject had already changed and she didn’t get a chance to present her case to the jury.
“It’s just weird, everybody’s talking about what happened the other night and nobody knows it was us.” She heard Allison say as she approached.
“Thank you for the protection of minors.” Penny said, smiling. She didn’t want anyone from school knowing she was there that night, being the new girl came with its own set of troubles and adding almost being murdered to that wouldn’t help the staring problem people in this school seemed to have.
“Do you guys think I made the wrong decision?” Allison asked. She had been going back and forth all weekend, wondering if taking a break with Scott was the right thing to do or not.
“About that jacket with that dress?” Lydia scoffed. “Absolutely.”
“You know what I mean.” Allison replied, not at all bothered by Lydia’s offhand comment.
“Hello? Scott locked us in that classroom and left us for dead. He’s lucky we’re not pressing charges or making him pay our therapy bills.”
Penny rolled her eyes at Lydia, if only she knew what really happened that night, she would need more than therapy and a couple pills to get through it.
The bell rang, letting them know they had two minutes to get to class so Penny and Allison said goodbye to Lydia and headed to take their test for Mr. Harris’ class.
“Hey, for what it’s worth, I think you’re doing the right thing.” Penny told Allison when they separated from Lydia.
“Really?” Allison asked, her insecurity showing through the cracks in her voice.
“Yeah, I mean I love Scott, he’s my family, but he can be a total idiot and you have to tell him or else he doesn’t realize… and when he doesn’t listen you gotta put him in timeout for a bit.” Allison laughed, which made Penny smile. “He’ll realize he’s being dumb, but you gotta take time for yourself.”
“Thanks Pen, I really needed to hear that.” Penny smiled as they entered the classroom, Penny found a seat in front of Stiles, smiling at the boy fiddling with his pencil. Stiles smiled back as she got situated, and Scott walked in the room, making a beeline for Allison who was sitting in the front row.
“Allison…”
“Mr. McCall,” Mr. Harris cut off Scott. It was probably for the best, Penny thought, it would’ve just ended badly for everyone had he been allowed to continue. “Please take a seat.”
Scott looked like he really wanted to say something back to Mr. Harris, but kept it inside and walked to his seat in front of Penny instead. He sent a somber smile at her and Stiles, before plopping down into his chair.
“You have 45 minutes to complete the test,” Harris said. “25% of your grade can be earned right now simply by writing your name on the cover of the blue book.” Penny immediately wrote her name on the cover, she didn’t want to be called out by Harris, he could be seriously brutal. “However, as happens every year, one of you will inexplicably fail to put your name on the cover, and I’ll be left yet again questioning my decision to ever become a teacher. So, let’s get the disappointment over with. Begin.” Harris clicked the start button on his stopwatch and sat at his desk.
Penny flipped her test book open, reading the first page of multiple choice questions before diving in. She found the test fairly easy, there were a few trick questions that didn’t surprise her at all, Harris was the type to try and trick students to prove how stupid they are, but she breezed through most of it.
What did surprise her was when Scott suddenly leaped from his chair and bolted out of the classroom. What followed was even less surprising. Stiles got up and chased after him. Mr. Harris called after both of them, but they acted as if they didn’t hear him and both ran out the door. Mr. Harris looked at Penny as if she had the answers to all his problems. She just shrugged and went back to her test, she was sure she would get the details later.
---
Penny sat on the bleachers after school, getting some homework done while the boys had lacrosse practice, her car was still very much busted and getting a ride from Stiles every morning was becoming routine.
She took a break from homework to watch as they lined up in front of the goal each taking turns trying to get around the two defensive blockers and then trying to make a shot. Scott got up and was immediately knocked down, probably something to do with the whole co-captain thing Stiles was telling her about before they started practice.
It only seemed to make him mad, though, because he pushed Stiles back, who was next in line, and took another turn, barreling through the two players, smacking Danny in the face with his lacrosse stick, and then making his shot. Penny stood, trying to see around the crowd of people swarming around Danny and when she saw Stiles go to Scott, she decided to join him.
“Yeah, but everybody likes Danny, now everybody’s gonna hate you.” She heard Stiles saying to Scott as she approached.
“What happened?” She asked.
“Nothing.” Scott said to Penny, “And, I don’t care.” He said to Stiles.
Stiles turned, overhearing a conversation between Lydia and Jackson about her lipstick being smudged. Penny didn’t know why Stiles would be interested in that conversation, other than his obsession with the strawberry blonde, but he got a weird look on his face that made Penny think something else entirely was going on.
---
“I still can’t believe he would do that.” Penny said as she unlocked the door to her temporary house. Making out with your best friend's crush has to be, like, number one on the no-no list.
“Scott?” Her aunt rounded the corner, dressed in her scrubs and ready for the night shift at the hospital.
“Nope, just Penny and Stiles.” She said, a smile on her face. Stiles waved from behind her, stupidly dropping the duffle bag full of supplies they gathered on the floor, which made a suspicious noise.
“What is that?” Melissa asked, suddenly concerned.
“Uh, school project.” Stiles lied. Melissa seemed to take the bait though. Or she just really didn’t want to ask any more questions.
“Stiles, he’s okay, right?” Penny was glad her aunt didn’t ask her that question, she had spent way more time on the opposite side of this breakup to know the ins and outs of what Scott was going through right now.
“Who? Scott? Yeah. Totally.”
“He just doesn’t talk to me that much anymore, not like he used to.” Penny’s heart broke for her aunt. She was just trying to be there for her son, who was going through way more than any teenager should have to go through.
“Well, he’s had a bit of a rough week.” Understatement of the century, but still, Stiles had a point.
“Yeah, yeah, I get it. Yeah. Um, okay, be careful tonight.”
“You, too.” Stiles replied, shooting her some finger guns that Penny tried not to be embarrassed by.
“Full moon.”
“What?” Penny and Stiles asked in unison, eyes as wide as saucers.
“There’s a full moon tonight.” Aunt Mel explained to the two deranged teens in her entryway. “You should see how the ER gets, brings out all the nutjobs.”
“Yeah.” Stiles said.
“Oh right,” Penny said at the same time.
“You know, it’s actually where they came up with the word ‘lunatic.’” Melissa walked around them and out the front door, leaving Stiles and Penny to stare in wonder at each other before busting into full belly laughs.
They raced each other up the stairs, laughing their way into Scott’s room, who nearly gave them both a heart attack when they saw him just sitting on the chair in the corner of his room.
“You scared the hell out of me.” Stiles said, dropping the duffle bag on the floor.
“Aunt Mel, said you weren’t home yet.” Penny said, walking a little further into the room.
Scott sat there like a weirdo for a few seconds, just staring, before telling them that he came in through the window.
“Okay.” Stiles said, and Penny could tell he was getting the same creepy vibes that she was. Penny opted to sit on Scott’s bed while Stiles did the chaining up. “Uh, well, let’s get this set up, I want you to see what we bought.” Penny super hoped that nobody got murdered tonight because if so, she and Stiles would be suspects number one and two with the amount of chains they bought at the store tonight.
“I’m fine.” Scott said, still unmoved from the chair. “I’m just gonna lock the door and go to bed early tonight.” Okay, now Penny was really creeped out, and also super glad she missed the first full moon.
“You sure about that? Cause you’ve got this kind of serial killer look going on in your eyes, and I’m hoping it’s the full moon taking effect cause it’s really starting to freak me out.” Stiles said from his crouching position on the floor.
“Ditto.” Penny chimed in.
“I’m fine.” Scott said again, the serial killer vibe not leaving his eyes. “You should go now.”
“All right, I’ll leave.” Stiles said standing up.
“What?” Penny asked, bewildered that he was going to leave her in this house with that murderous psycho.
“Well, look, would you just at least look in the bag and see what we bought? You know, maybe you use it, maybe you don’t.” Penny stared at Stiles, trying to figure out what his endgame was. “Sound good?” Stiles asked, still crouched on the floor in front of the duffle bag. Scott eyed him for a second before slowly standing, the curiosity to see what was in the bag wining out on whatever animal instinct he was running on right now.
He bent down on the other side of the bag and stuck his hand in, grabbing a handful of the big chains Stiles and Penny bought.
“You think I’m gonna let you put these on and chain me up like a dog?” Scott asked with the same creepy voice. Scott dropped the chains, and looked at Stiles.
“Actually no,” Stiles replied, quickly snapping handcuffs on one wrist and using his bodyweight to push Scott to the old radiator and snap the other cuff shut.
“What the hell are you doing?” Scott growled. Penny stood, following Stiles to get as far from Scott as possible.
“Protecting you from yourself and giving you some payback, for making out with Lydia.” Penny knew Stiles had a crush on Lydia, hell everyone knew he had a crush on Lydia. Especially Scott, so Penny knew it had to sting a lot when Stiles found out.
Stiles was seriously hurt and Penny didn’t blame him one bit for wanting to tie her cousin up like a dog.
—-
They sat in the hallway right outside Scott’s door, deciding to wait out the rest of the night out of eyesight. Stiles was still feeling very petty, though, because while at the store he bought a dog bowl for Scott to drink out of, and just spent the past ten minutes drawing Scott’s name on the side. He stood up once it was done and stood in the doorway, making a big show of pouring the water into the bowl for Scott.
“I’m gonna kill you!” Penny heard Scott yell right as Stiles’ was coming out of the room.
“You kissed her, Scott, okay? You kissed Lydia. That’s, like, the one girl that I… And, you know, the past three hours, I’ve been thinking it’s probably just the full moon. You know, he doesn’t even know what he’s doing and tomorrow, he’ll be totally back to normal.” Stiles laid into Scott, “He probably won’t even remember what a complete dumbass he’s been. A son of a bitch, a freaking unbelievable piece of crap friend.”
“She kissed me.” She heard Scott say back.
“What?” Stiles asked. Penny couldn’t see his face but she knew exactly what it looked like.
“I didn’t kiss her. She kissed me.” Scott repeated. Stiles didn’t answer, he just left the room, sliding down the wall next to where Penny was still sitting. “She would have done a lot more, too. You should have seen the way she had her hands all over me. She would have done anything I wanted. Anything!”
Stiles hunched forward, dropping his head in his hands and Penny reached out, placing and then rubbing her hand along his back.
That wasn’t Scott in there, and she hoped that Stiles knew that. Hoped he knew that the person saying those things wasn’t his best friend. They listened in silence, as Scott struggled to break free from the handcuffs.
“Stiles, please let me out.” Scott’s tone did a complete 180. “It’s the full moon I swear.” He almost sounded like the real Scott, but Penny could hear the evil undertone in his voice still, begin to be set free. “You know I wouldn’t do any of this on purpose… Penny? Please, let me out. It’s starting to hurt.” They both ignored him, staring straight ahead. “It’s not like the first time, it’s the full moon, it’s Allison breaking up with me. I know that it’s not just taking a break. She broke up with me.”
They still stayed silent, neither of them wanted to play his little games, no matter how much it hurt to just sit there and do nothing. It was for his own good, Penny just kept telling herself over and over.
“And it’s killing me… I feel completely hopeless.” Scott continued. “Just, please, let me out.” Penny laced her fingers through Stiles’ hoping she was giving him all the moral support he needed, and that he knew he was doing the same for her.
“I can’t.” Stiles told him, giving Penny’s hand a small squeeze. Scott started screaming louder and louder as the full moon danced out from behind the clouds, casting an erie shadow over the room and hallway. Penny squeezed his hand tighter, fighting back the urge to get up and set him loose. The screaming went on for what felt like hours. Stiles even shut the door, which Penny didn’t think helped at all, but she knew he was just trying to lessen the suffering.
“Scott?” Stiles asked when the screaming stopped for a few seconds. He and Penny shared a worried look before they both rose and Stiles peeped the door open enough to see what was going on.
The bloody handcuffs glistened on the floor where Scott was just sitting. They both immediately took off running for the front door, tripping over each other and their own feet trying to make it to the Jeep as fast as they possibly could to hopefully stop Scott from killing anyone.
---
They drove all over town, looking for any sign of Scott but were coming up empty at every turn… until they saw the lights from an ambulance up ahead, and the Sheriff’s station vehicles parked around it.
“Oh no.” Stiles’ words mirrored Penny’s thoughts. Stiles slammed on the brakes right as they paramedics were wheeling a body into the ambulance. They hoped out, and Stiles started calling for his dad.
Penny stopped, now seeing the charred arm of the victim they were rolling away.
“Stiles? Penny?” She turned her head, looking to see Noah approaching. “What are you guys doing here?” Stiles didn’t answer his dad, just brought him in for a bone crushing hug, and Penny pieced together that he must have thought that was his dad on the stretcher. The sheriff hugged his son back and the three of them walked over to the Jeep.
The night was nowhere near over for them, but at least Scott hadn’t killed anyone yet.
