It's funny isn't it...
How much you want me now that I don't want you.

One of the most excellent things about this episode is the stark contrast they give us between Mando and Din.
We first get Mando in obvious command of Mayfeld within the vehicle, who’s not afraid to respond to Mayfeld’s statement of them being alike while also still giving him orders once the pirates start to attack. He stands top of the vehicle and fights off the pirates, going 4v1 multiple times like it’s nothing, fending for both himself and Mayfeld and preparing to do it all over again even when an impossible number start to arrive.
Then, we start to see a switch. They get to the Imperial base and as soon as Mando gets out of the vehicle, he appears… lost. Mayfeld has to physically guide him towards the mess hall. This is when Mando starts to fade away as his desperation starts to grow, especially once Mayfeld says he can’t do the scan. Still, he tries to take control, heading to the terminal himself even though he’s aware he may have to do the one thing he said he wouldn’t: show his face.
Now, we see Din. This is completely different from the Mando we saw literally just minutes before. He’s not commanding attention in the room with just his presence. He’s not barking out orders and standing his ground. He’s obviously afraid and nervous, unsure of what to do. The moment he’s confronted by the officer, he freezes. Without his helmet, without the identity and security he’s always known, Din doesn’t know what to do. He can’t do what he usually would with the safety of his helmet, his suit, and his weapons. This is unfamiliar territory and Din can’t possibly fend for himself in this way.
As soon as the helmet goes back on, Din snaps back into Mando mode, already giving Mayfeld orders again with his “Ready? Go!” line. This contrast is such a commentary on Mando vs. Din, what life is like for him within the helmet versus without it. This is why he holds tight to his Creed. It’s incredible how they showed all this to us within just ten minutes of screen time.

“Do you know what it’s like to have every thing that made you feel special and loved, ripped away? I wish I had someone to talk to instead of the insecurities in my head. I just want someone to know how broken I feel. But, I am too ashamed.”
- daisystayhere, excerpts from my journal
He finally told me the truth about a question I have asked a hundred times. It’s like my heart just broke, again. Nothing can prepare you for this kind of sadness.

Could I cheat on him? Yea, I probably could.
Could I look at another man and fantasize? Yea, I probably could.
Could I still cheat and love him? Yea, I probably could.
But, I won’t. Don’t want to. No bone in my body perks up at the thought of being with another naked body.
Have I thought about doing it? Yes.
Have I fantasized about doing it? Yes.
Why do I want to do it? Revenge.
And if revenge can’t make me go out and do it…what does doing it when you’re just “in love” say about you?

“If we are going to break up, I want it to be because WE failed at being TOGETHER. I don’t want to break up because you cheated on me. I don’t want her to be the reason we break up. She’s already help take so much away from me, I’m not letting her take my relationship too.”
daisystayhere, excerpts from my journal
Said this to him when I found out.
