Project 3 - Proposal #3 The University of Arizona - Old Main
There are so many details when looking at old main. At the center of the University of Arizona, Old Main is full of life and action. I plan on photographing old main at sunset. The sun’s light will be shining directly at the building, giving a golden hour glow. When photographing the building, I want a few subjects placed around Old Main - wearing wildcat clothing and holding up U of A “hand sings” such as bear down or cheering/laughing. I want to capture close up images of different flowers and trees along with different sections  of the building. I really want to highlight the details of the landscaping/architecture of the building.
Ever since the 6th grade I have wanted to attend the University of Arizona. My Mom graduated from U of A and when she took me to see the school when was in middle school. I fell in love with the campus and was taken back by the beauty of Old Main. I knew in that moment that I wanted to go to college at the U of A. Fast forward 6 years and I’m walking around the campus as a student. Frequently, Ill go to the water fountain at old main with friends and talk about life or read a book. I like to people watch there. I want to capture the school spirit and heart of U of A by photographing happy students and their excitement. I plan on filling out the poster board with images, but allows the shape of old main to create the outer boarder.

Project 3 - Proposal #2 Coffee Shop
Coffee shops help fuel my mind and body (being a sleep-deprived college student). One of my favorite things to do in coffee shops is to study. Personally I can’t study in complete silence - and there is usually a hum or chatter to coffee shops. I will capture the movement by photographing people moving their arms in different ways - bringing pastries and coffee up to their mouths. I want to capture people’s cool and calm emotions through soft smiles. I want to photograph midday - when the sun is above the coffee shop or at night when the shop is lit up by its on light. Im looking to use/manipulate the light to be more towards the warmer/dim side. Compositionally I want to frame the project using the architecture of the shop, if there is a nook or sitting place in the wall - I will focus my attention there.
I usually go to a coffee shop 2-3 times a week to study or relax. Every Thursday my friends and I get together and go to a coffee shop off of Cambell for 4-6 hours and study/hang out. We are all moving around, laughing, sharing drinks etc. We are always happy and thoroughly enjoy ourselves and I want to capture that same atmosphere with this next photography project. The movement is a key point to this project - so I will have my subjects bring food to their mouths or moving their hands on their keyboard or wiring notes in a notebook. Coffee shops hold a significant place in my heart.

Project 3 - Proposal #1 Amy’s Donuts
This donut shop if full of colors, smells and life. Both the interior and exterior of the donut shop is interesting to look at. When photographing, Ill look at both and see which will be the most interesting. Ill capture a subject eating a donut, taking different angles of the donut, and different shots of the subjects face before/during/after eating the donut. In addition I will capture movement in the subjects rm when bringing the donut to his/her face. I plan on shooting different sides and angles of the donut shop, along with zoomed in pictures of the “Amy’s Donuts” sign thats out of frame in this image. I plan on shooting during sunset - so the shop lights will be vibrant but there is still natural lighting from the sun. When editing I plant to bring out the orange and pink that’s painted around the shop - really make it vibrant and pop.
This donut shop holds a very special place in my heart. This was one of the very first Tucson-local shops that I came to when I moved to Tucson. I used to drive to Amy’s late at night with my friends to grab a coffee and some donuts. I feel like I will be able to capture the movement and excitement of the shop through photographing a subject and different parts of the building. Laying out my images on a poster board I want to outline just the shop and the sign with images, leaving blank space on the poster board.

Project 2: Proposal #3
For my final proposal, I want to shoot industrial or residential buildings behind fences. I saw this abandoned house in Tucson, Arizona. I would want to photograph the house during sunset, so the light will be more red. I want to underexpose the photo slightly to show its darkness. I plan on photographing the house from a few different perspectives. One being straight on with the fence in the foreground. Then one looking through the fence with the house in the focal point. Another will be photographing the house at night. From different perspective, different meanings could be brought up. Or maybe some angles will highlight dystopian aspects better than others.
Abandonment seems to be a common aspect to dystopias. I think this house highlights that aspect with the boarded windows and over grown grass/weeds. This place looks uninhabited or post apocalyptic. I’m hoping to bring out the grunginess of the property with my photography techniques and with manipulating the lighting. I might hang an hat or an item on the fence too, to make it seem like someone just go up and left.

Project 2: Proposal #2
Laundromats have always been interesting to me. They have an industrial and machinery feeling to them that reminds me of a dystopia - metal, cold and inhumane. In order to portray this, I would want to photograph these laundromats during the day, where the lighting inside the building is moderately bright. I would want to photograph multiple washers next to/on top of each other, to show uniform and sameness. The composition of these photos will be straight on. I plan on enhancing the blue tones and bringing more of a mental feel to the photo.
In order to effectively show that the laundromat is a dystopia, I want to create a sense of uniform and sameness. I would shoot all of the washers next to each other, and then off to the side, I would have one washer drawer open or maybe one sock hanging out of the washing machine. This way, my audience will be drawn to look at this one detail - this random object that has changed the whole photo. One might wonder why someone left an article of clothing, why they didn't take the time to pick up their belongings. Another thought is to have all of the washers full and clothes hanging out of every single one. This might show that people had to suddenly leave for some apparent reason.
