i think wyll should have been the one with the astral prism and i do actually have a line of reasoning to follow here

1. the githyanki's pact for the red dragons is with tiamat, who lives in avernus and was formerly its archduchess

2. hanging on to the astral prism containing orpheus would have been the ultimate insurance policy; vlaakith can't stab tiamat in the back if it means tiamat might expose her and free the prince of the comet

3. wyll made his pact with mizora to fight off a cult of tiamat that was attempting to summon her

4. "the astral prism was stolen from tiamat and zariel subsequently tasked mizora with retrieving it to make the queen of chromatic dragons shut the fuck up" makes more sense than "shadowheart and the sharrans stole the prism for??? reasons???"

5. shadowheart was being groomed as the eventual chosen of shar; finding the nightsong should have always been her mission

6. this brings wyll's backstory into the plot in a more active way and gives him an internal conflict to struggle with

7. most importantly: wyll desperately needs more content

re: lack of wyll content in the latest update - others have said it better but a detail i want to highlight is that Larian’s tendency toward fanservice & their “curious” neglect of the only Black companion are absolutely connected. we know a ton of people who play this game are operating on internalized racist preferences, consciously or not. i’m sure there are people at Larian who would love to write and make more content for Wyll, but bc their internal stats show he’s the least utilized, has less fan content etc, they are told to prioritize Astarion or Halsin or fucking Gortash instead. it is absolutely an established pattern for fandoms to neglect Black characters for no reason and Wyll is no exception. but because Larian defines itself by being “responsive to the fans” (read: the most vocal and online ones), they get away with it, it’s even good business strategy for them to ignore Wyll.

this is one of the consequences of letting fan response shape the story you tell - it loses integrity and yes, neglecting Wyll undermines the game thematically and narratively. you let unexamined racist tendencies in broader culture dictate your product but no, Larian is the good guy because they Listen to Fans (when it is easy and convenient). it’s yet another case of a game developer chasing the bottom line in the easiest way possible and frankly, it’s lame as hell

I love Astarion as much as the next person, but Larian NEEDS to dedicate time to fleshing out Wyll. Black characters are so often excluded from fantasy (for racist reasons), and the disparity between Wyll and Every Single Other Companion is horrendous. He needs more personal quest, more scenes (romance and otherwise), more lines, more TIME. He is the fucking Blade of Frontiers! People KNOW him! HE'S THE SON OF THE FUCKING DUKE. If anyone should know and have a ton of connections in Baldur’s Gate, it's him! Come on Larian, your treatment of Wyll is nauseating and inexcusable

re: wyll's lack of a sex scene

"its nice that theres an ace option" there isnt. you still have sex, larian just fades to black after 3 seconds of fully-clothed kissing. if you dont want your character to fuck, you can say no. if you dont want to say no but for some reason still dont want to see anything, the game has a nudity censor option

"he was just lowest priority because, out of all the romanceable companions, he puts the lowest priority on sex" lower priority than haarlep? than the drow twins? emperor? the woman who owns his soul gets full-frontal but his own scene cuts to black before he even takes his shirt off. larian puts in the content they think players would enjoy, and seemingly just saw the option to fuck wyll as unimportant to players

"it just wouldnt mesh with his character, hes too romantic" okay but he literally does fuck offscreen in his romance route, so it would in fact be in character for him. also sex isnt inherently impure. this is a less sex-positive take than the generally accepted one in the mormon church (i would know, im exmo). have you never heard the euphemisms "making love" and "intimacy" before? this is a weird take and youre weird for having it

do i, as a lesbian, personally want to see his cock and balls? no. do i think it Says Something when larian just assumes that no one wants horny wyll content in a famously horny game? yes
