8. How open they are about their true feelings, both positive and negative?

Highly depends on what the context is and who she is with. If it's business matters, she has no hesitation in expressing her thoughts and feelings. If the plan is stupid, the other party will know at once. If the plan is good — they will know too.

If it's a personal matter, she has to rely on her partner to put effort into decoding her feelings to a certain degree. Her upbringing wired her to shove feelings under the rug in favor of pragmatism. It brought certain benefits — she is diligent, capable and reliable at work, doesn't complain about difficulty. Yet this stoicism had its price — sometimes she herself doesn't know what she feels exactly, and whether it is important enough to be brought up at all.

Both of her relationships were a challenge and a learning experience, as you can't keep love alive if you treat it with the mindset of a warehouse manager. Love, among other things, is built on emotional dedication; and although she might never learn to "understand" her feelings, she had to learn how to trust herself with being open about them.

9. What is their love language?

Love Language Number 1: being open-minded and having a kink for infodumping. Give her all the brain stimulation, show that you're not intellectually stuck in the same box, tell her about the things that happened to you throughout the day. And essentially — let her be the first person you want to share it all with. Alt loves listening to Kurt's stories about his many travels, while Kurt finds joy in telling them to someone who actually cares about it all: the friend-foe dealings with Siberians, the sunny Balkans with its unique music, the stupidity of Militech corps and many more (Rosie could never).

Language Number Also 1: physical touch. After all the abuse she had to go through in her childhood, being touched with love and genuine affection matters a lot. A long embrace is one of the keys to making her feel safe and loved. Holding hands is like winning a lottery. All that is reserved for friends and partners, though; strangers should keep their hands to themselves. As for giving love, she is a person of deeds: share your troubles with her, and she will find a solution. Wants to ensure the significant people in her life are in good health and mind, protected and thriving (even if you're a betrayed warlord with a destroyed city district and a bunch of clowns with guns)

35. Do they like their own appearance, and what do they do, if anything, to alter it in any way?

When it comes to clothing, she wears what she wants, and is content with her choices. Mostly casual-styled clothing with a bit of roughness thrown in: leather accessories, angular shapes, maybe some small metallic details. Isn't afraid of the scars on her arm, neck and face; wears sleeveless tops freely. When Alt was a child, she suffered physical abuse from her father and had to cover the bruises with clothes, which earned her "Longsleeves" nickname from her classmates. By 2070, the scars and bruises she gets are the results of her actions and choices, and she isn't afraid of that.

When it comes to face and body, she doesn't consider herself a top looker, but she isn't negative or pessimistic about it. "Could be a bit better here and there, but whatever I have is fine". Flaunts whatever she's got and doesn't ponder over it much, frankly.

43. Do they enjoy flirting or being flirted with?

She doesn't care much about it. Years of working at a bar brought her the experience of hearing 1000 & 1 way to say "hey, pretty lady, isn't it a lonely evening?", so her perception of flirts has been dulled. As for being the one flirting — she'd rather learn more about the person and make genuine compliments.

OC Questions

Received a message from @olath124 with quite a few questions chosen for Alt. Tagging my enabler colleague Le @ouroboros-hideout too. Behold the wall!

11. What are small things that make them happy?

Kept promises. Job done well. Working with high quality tools and parts, when it comes to mechanics: bolts tightening up as they should, details clicking together perfectly, seams aligning well, and so on. Last, but not least — delicious baked goods and good new music discovered by accident. she would mention Kurt here, but he is not really small

21. When they’re sick, would they want others to visit them, or they would rather prefer not to be seen at not their best?

Depends on how sick she is. As long as she can get up & work, she pretends she is fine and doesn't need any help. Which naturally leads to the moment when things do get bad enough that she needs someone to check up on her. The good thing is, she'd probably sleep it all off and her friend or partner wouldn't suffer any whining either.

28. What is something that they will never be able to forgive?

She can forgive many things if she understands the reasons behind them and finds them valid. Yet she doesn't forget. The one thing that she neither forgives nor forgets — cheating, in business and personal relationships. Alt values people being direct and honest (especially if it's blunt honesty). She always makes it clear to others as well. In her mind, cheating is someone's conscious choice to use her out of purely opportunistic motives, while thinking she is either too stupid to figure it out or not valuable enough to keep things crystal clear. A sure way to make her cut you out of her life (probably cut you out of your own life too).

37. How would they spend a lazy day when they have nothing specific to do?

Boredom is her worst enemy, so it's hard to imagine her having a day being idle. Everyone she's been in a relationship with complained that she can't let herself rest, but as the time went on, each of those built up her actual confidence and softened her up. She becomes gentler with herself too. "Lazy" movie nights, night drives, chatty walks around the city with snacks in hand, an evening for card games or a set of pool. If everyone else's busy, she will likely brainrot with a book on engineering and mechanics. The mind needs to stay sharp.

44/45. On a party, where would you find them? For an event, would they dress like they typically do, or go all out?

Chances are, you wouldn't find her at a party at all! She is much more comfortable having fun in a small group of people or one-on-one. If dragged into a party nonetheless, would dress casually, unless there's a strict dress code. Another thing is, the Black Sapphire kind of party: Alt perceives it solely as a time to gather information and find potential opportunities for business. She mingles around, trying to keep her distaste for all the phony egos hidden, but essentially it feels more like work than fun. The only entertaining part of it for her is to make bets with Kurt on what kind of drama breaks that evening, who makes a scandalous scene again and how much alcohol a new corpo face from NC will need to start throwing money around. For these occasions, she will dress to impress — she knows well that appearance is one of the important tools in public games.

53. Do they like to sing and how confident they are with their singing?

Alt is confident in her singing and has no shame about it. Not that she is naturally gifted or had vocal practice, no. Yet she is expressive, and her voice is no exception. If she wants to remind someone of the tune of some song, she will do it quite well. If she is out with friends, and they're all hyped by a track, she will sing along. Teasing someone with a few chanty salty lines — just wait for it.

58. In the situation where they had to choose, would they rather stay loyal to their morals or to people they love?

Young Alt held onto her morals until the very end, but as she matured that rigidity lost its strength. Eventually, life shaped her into someone for whom (most of the time) the goal justifies the means, yet the choice of that goal is preceded by scrupulous analysis. She will commit a crime or step over herself in one way or another if the result is, pragmatically, worth it. The only exception is her relationship with Kurt — she crossed many of her own red lines for something that could easily go extremely wrong, while being motivated by her emotions and feelings. She knows that and will openly admit her hypocrisy in that regard if asked about it. Don't expect her to feel shame about it, though; she calls her infatuation with Kurt "the best decision [she] didn't actually make".

3. What emotion is the hardest for them to deal with?

Boredom. As only the external stimulation runs shallow, her thinking turns inwards. If she can't pick apart a business deal/car/someone's struggle/you name it, she starts to pick herself apart. Alt is a person of objective analysis and prefers to weigh in on everything, knowing ins and outs, keeping track of negatives and positives. Yet with her twisted sense of self-worth, giving herself credit for good things is a struggle. A hungry dark void is a permanent, most loyal companion of her psyche, but as the saying goes — don't stare into it too long, or it will stare back. She needs something (or someone) to keep her internal eye away.

20. When they’re sad or upset, do they need company or some time alone?

Alt would say she needs a moment alone, but it couldn't be further from truth for the reason described in #3: staying alone with her thoughts for too long leads to her mentally devouring herself. A quiet evening with a friend or loved one by her side is good. When she doesn't have anyone for company, she goes for long drives outside the city (see, searching for external stimulus to distract her again). But if she's got the drive and the company to share it with? Perfect, she will patch herself up in no time, find solutions to your troubles, solve global problems and conquer the world.

36. Do they own items that have sentimental value?

Lots of those! For someone who strives to be a mind-over-heart person she is quite sentimental. A little box of printed photographs that she got throughout the years, starting from her times in New York; rarely looks through them though (because someone is afraid of getting into feelings too much). The key from Quadra "Nightwing", which is the only thing she got left from her treasured car. A pile of her little journals where she used to sketch people and machines (the ones she thought she'd never have the chance to actually build one day) during the quiet hours of her work at a bar. One of those journals has a lock of Kurt's hair hidden among its pages that he doesn't know she picked up when he got the bravery to shave it off. Her obsession with sunglasses is sentiment-driven too: when she had to flee New York after the Family Accident™, she stole a pair of sunglasses from a corner store stand, trying to hide herself from unwanted gazes. It was senseless in a way that it wouldn't save her from being recognized by whoever would look for her — technology is way too smart for it even nowadays — but even the most trivial thing to hide behind made her feel safer when she was essentially on the run from the entire world. Fear of being detected has been long gone, but the sunglasses remained.

59. What would they want to be remembered for?

She wouldn't want to be remembered, and neither does she believe in the concept of "being remembered". Within her philosophy, one ends with their passing, and everything left behind is a complex, ever-shifting mosaic of people's interpretations not worth any concern, since there's no control over it anyways. "There was a time when I didn't exist, and there will be a time like this again. I am a consequence of one accident, error in the code. And whenever my time comes, I will be back from 1 to 0. I lived, I made choices. But the code will run forth without me. The simplicity of life. Don't complicate it."
