I agree that the Calamity Cannon is terrible, but I disagree that this is problematic on the part of Greg Supergiant. I think it's wrong on the part of Rucks. It shows that he learned nothing from the Calamity; he was complicit in making the Calamity, but doesn't see anything wrong in the processes that led to the Calamity (i.e. Caelondia's xenophobia), but only in the outcome of the Calamity occurring.
It's the same reason why he pushes you to choose the Restoration ending over the Evacuation ending; he doesn't believe that Caelondia was wrong, and thus doesn't believe the Calamity could happen again.
Using the Calamity Cannon makes the Kid complicit in Rucks' apologism of Caelondia and the Mancers, but it's a complicity you can later choose to reject, first by stopping the fighting with the Ura by saving Zulf, then by choosing Evacuation to embrace the new world and leave Caelondia behind.
TL;DR I don't think Greg is saying the Calamity Cannon is good, I think Rucks is, and it's up to the player to recognise that Rucks and the Calamity Cannon are wrong, and reject them in the game's ending choices.
what the fuck is up with the calamity cannon. taking the calamity, an event horrendous beyond measure, and then being like yeah here it is as a weapon :) and it comes before or during the ura levels when the calamity was intended to fucking genocide them and rucks is like "finish what the calamity started" what the FUCK mr greg supergiant we gotta have a talk here

In Final Fantasy IX, Freya's primary fear is that "to be forgotten is worse than death." This is supposed to refer to a part relatively early in the story when the love of her life, Fratley, develops amnesia and completely forgets her.
However, in an unparalled act of immersive storytelling, this part of the story is also where the writers, like Fratley, completely forget about Freya, because she doesn't have anything to do for the rest of the plot.

This line in hamlet:
O God, I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams.
Is the Shakespeare equivalent of this post:
