One thing which genuinely bothers me is Annabeth's perception in the fandom. How she's seen as this cold, stoic, emotionless, reserved and intimidating girl. When in reality, she's a character full of love.

Annabeth, whose deepest desire, which the Sirens lured her with, is saving Luke and having a good relationship with both her parents.

Annabeth, who cried in Percy's arms before entering the labyrinth and refused to reveal the last line of the prophecy because it said to lose a love worse than death and the idea of losing any of her friends is too painful, heartbreaking and worse than dying.

Annabeth, who kissed Percy before parting with him in St. Helens because if he's going to die, she at least wants him to die knowing she loved him.

Annabeth, who took a poisoned knife for Percy during the war because she'd rather die herself than let him die.

ok. hear me out. it's canon that animals feel uncomfortable around Nico because of his "death aura" (or something). And Nico knows this. He is aware that he tends to come across as off-putting to other people (one might even say hyperaware), but he genuinely isn't sure what it is that he does to make people so wary of him, so it obviously must mean that it's his powers. And since he can't turn his off his death aura, that must mean that everyone is uncomfortable around him all the time. (Which sometimes results in him interpreting wariness onto the ppl around him regardless of whether they are actually displaying/feeling any)

what I mean is that if you really need to pee and Nico happens to pass by, he will think that you look like that because of him. if he shadow travels behind you and you (very reasonably) jump in surprise, he will assume you hate him. if he directly translates an old Italian saying into English and you look at him weirdly he will assume your confusion is actually pure unbridled terror at being forced to hold a conversation with him.

now we have will. considering apollos kids tend to be healers or entertainers, it would make sense for them to have a calming effect on the people around them. will is the main healer. meaning he hears a ton of really fucked up or just straight up weird stuff from campers who are high on meds or in lots of pain. meaning everyone tries to be nice to him since they know they will be under his care sooner or later. meaning he sort of has to stay year-round and only rarely ventures out into the mortal world

what I mean is that he is actually equally as off-putting: rapidly changing between ranting about star wars and STIs without warning, making horrible puns in super inappropriate situations, disconcertingly cheery even if he is covered in blood. but his fellow campers are used to it and he *is* a super good healer. so...nobody really tells him? He is also super bad at knowing whether people are just being polite or are genuinely interested (since he has a lot of unwilling listeners in the infirmary pretty much at all times and once again, nobody dares to complain) so dude thinks he is suuuuper good at this social interaction thing when he is actually quite the opposite.

long story short their particular brand of off-putting compliment each other in the absolutely worst ways. they bring out the creepy in each other. they should not be allowed to venture into the mortal world while in each other's presence (of course they do anyways)

also it is important to note that:

a. will is so self-assured in his normalness and social prowess that Nico actually believes him. To him his boyfriend is super good at making friends and interacting with people in general. People think he is being sarcastic when he mentions it but he believes in it as strongly as will.

b. everything other people tend to find creepy about nico is just adorable to will, resulting in him thinking that people are joking when they call his bf scary (even if some campers are really intense about it). he just cannot fathom why people would be scared of the dude. it does not fit in his worldview, ergo it must be a joke
