Keep Your Love Alive: Dreamboat Annie Turns 70
Maybe it’s crazy on you; perhaps it’s le strange, bébé; or it seems like magic, man, but somehow Dreamboat Annie, little ship of dreams, has gone sailing into her eighth decade.
Ann Wilson is 70 today.
Born June 19, 1950, Wilson - who plays the Robert Plant part in the so-called female Led Zeppelin (aka, Heart) - hits that major milestone today and Sound Bites still loves her with the band.
Up to and including Private Audition, that is.
Since then, it’s been a mixed bag of trying to conform to the latest styles. But LPs like Heart, Little Queen, Dog and Butterfly and Bébé Le Strange made clear women could rock. With her soaring soprano, flittering flute and songs both aggressive (“Barracuda”) and soothing (“Song of the Archer”) - or, like “Minsterel Wind,” a combination of the two - the female-Led Zeppelin thing was completely accurate.
But it’d never been bandied about if Heart - Ann and younger sister Nancy - hadn’t have been the trailblazers they were.
