I actually don’t mind that “dead dove” has become conversational shorthand for “fics with heavy themes where you REALLY need to pay attention to the warnings”. such is the nature of language. what i do mind is when people tag their actual fics with dead dove and then give no indication of what they’re actually warning about. that is useless. that helps no one. that is completely against the spirit of the meme. i will not be reading that

baby fever is the most foreign concept to me in the world. when i found out women don’t have to have children if they don’t want to i was like YAYYYY!!! I’M FREEEEE !!! ^_^ i was like 13 and i have never looked back…
#i saw this pop up in my activity page so im rbing it again#its worth it for one#and for two to say#my bosses are a married power couple in their 60s#they are child free very intentionally#(it helps that i was friends with the wife of the couple first#but they are so inspirational to me in that way#4 days a week i get to see what a happy child free future is like#i love it.

young me especially would have hated hearing this but networking is literally the most important thing you can do to improve your situation like forget economic barriers to education etc just keep making friends with different people and eventually someone will offer you a hand up just because they dig your vibe and that is exactly all that's happening when undeserving people surpass you anyway
#my mom had been working at a dead end job for almost 10 years#staff kept quitting or dying until my mom was trying to juggle 4 jobs#(meaning her coworkers just never got replaced)#and a regular customer saw how she was busting her ass#and how long she had been with the company#and he offered her a salaried job#which then finally allowed her to buy a house finally

people always talk about leaving comments on ao3 like it's a nice thing to do, or the best way to encourage writers to keep writing, or overall like it's how you Do Your Part in fandom
and yeah, all those things are true, but having spent the past few months leaving enthusiastic comments on as many things as i can, i have a different perspective
you should leave comments on fics because it's fun
taking the time to stop and focus on what i like about a story has made me way more aware of what's going on in stories and what i like about them. there's bit more actual comprehension and appreciation and not just beaming content into my eyes to fill time
i like noticing cool little things in fics, or riffing on funny events. i've never been very good at speculating or picking apart characters, but sometimes something clicks and it rocks.
and of course it's pretty nice when you get a response and it's clear you've made another person happy
so yeah, you should leave comments for your own sake, too. it makes reading better!

the Columbia University arrests are worse than they seem. They're arresting protesting students for trespassing. It goes without saying students cannot meaningfully "trespass" in the common areas of a university they attend. So Columbia University has suspended all student protestors from their institution, in the process revoking their access to housing, their belongings, and most crucially damaging their academic futures. We are witnessing full scale silencing and removal of anyone of conscience from the next generation of academia.
