I had the theory/hc that Hosea could tell something was wrong with Arthur's health in the early chapters and I WAS RIGHT.
I feel vindicated. However, hearing Hosea speak this way about himself is also hard.
TIL that a recent study out of the University of Kansas found that it takes about 50 hours of socializing to go from acquaintance to casual friend, an additional 40 hours to become a โrealโ friend, and a total of 200 hours to become a close friend.
I think Dutch became suspicious after Arthur said he ran into the Pinkertons with Jack, and they let him go. Arthur says he didn't give them anything in exchange for his freedom. Dutch believed that wasn't possible.
He was then assuming Arthur was the rat because the cops/Pinkertons kept showing up. I did not even realize the foil there! Charles and Micah joining the gang around the same time, Arthur having Charles whisper in his ear the same way we see Micah.
Dutch was a messed up dude, but his suspicion and upset was warranted regarding Arthur for sure.
I found this quite satisfying to read
The biggest problem I've always had with this community who's against Dutch is that they never tried to look at it from his side of the fence. Like I said before Dutch has his faults but he's not the only one with them.
