steve watches as he shyly walks forward, letting cesare walk right into him. arms wrap around him, jacket squishing against him gently with a small ' poof. ' he's like a personal heater, arms ' pat - patting ' against his back.
once again the reference goes over his head, but the statement is understood nonetheless. jacket wraps around cesare as arms rest on his back.
his name said - steve - falls natural to his ears. yes, that was what was missing. he hadn't considered that cesare would be worried he'd get scared off again — to steve that was all in the past. why wouldn't it be ?
" i would — i would eat acorns from your hand. " a pause. that wasn't the point of what cesare said, but somehow it still worked. voice is gentle, a small rumble in his chest as cesare was held to him.
" you wouldn't scare me ... i - i feel ... safe. "
💀 — [ Steve doesn't need to ramble to sound convincing, he IS sincere. Cesare holds on to every little word, no matter how few or how quiet. ]
" You do..? "
[ timid little steps lead him face-first into the burger decal on his shirt, visibly relaxing upon impact. the warmth is comforting, sweat and all.
he does something that Steve likes, that is ' special. ' it's worth more to him than a triple-dog dare. -- though it isn't intentional when he loses, ]
" Aw, Steve, I'm sorry … I just get freaked out, thinking about scaring you off again. You are like a deer, and -- and I wanna be your Jane Goodall, Steve. I wanna protect you; make you comfortable enough to eat acorns and soft mast out of my hand. "

the shift in tone from his usual confident demeanour catches steve off guard. for a moment he stands, processing everything that was said to him. would it make it special ?
" but — but it is special. "
own eyes go back to their natural squinting state, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. his palms are a bit sweaty, hair stuck to the back of his neck. truth be told, he's had no experience before — he doesn't know what's usual for these sort of things and what's not.
" i've never ... never been in something like this before ... "
voice tapers off into a small mumble, a bit shy in what he says. he's never been that good with words, but maybe that adds to the sincerity of it.
" i ... like it this way. "
💀 — " But -- you've gotta be TIRED of hearing it by now. Doesn't sound like a word maybe; lost it's charm! -- What if I used more pet-names instead? ' Honey, ' 'baby, ' ' Big Cat? ' Shit like that, would you like it more? Would it -- Would it make it special? "
[ making an effort to ' cool it, ' Cesare's eyes flick down and away. he nervously taps his fingertips together, which make cartoony little click-clack noises. ]
